A restaurant named Taqueria Pueblo Magico is planning to move into the building recently occupied by Evie’s Hamburgers in the Encina Grande shopping center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek.
A grand opening date has not been announced.
This restaurant will be one business away from Taco Bell.
I’d rather take a shot on some new Mexican food over yet another boring hamburger place.
Can we get a little more diversity in our eating establishments? How many Taquerias can our area actually support? Oh well, at least I am not invested in that business!
It sounds like Evie’s got squirreled…. I’d sue.
Big time. I would sue also.
Oh Boy another Taqueria
If this one takes as long to open as the place by Safeway on Clayton and Denkinger, we will be having turkey tacos for Thanksgiving
It seems to take FOREVER for anything to get done in Concord.
it’s Taco Tuesday…
I thought that Tuesday was Red’s Tamale day.
Tamale Thursday
@Kirkwood
That was “Red’s Tamales Day”, and it was so long ago, there probably aren’t any other folks on this site who even heard of it, let alone remember it. Note I wrote Tamales, because the singular is Tamal. The company was Red’s Tamales, owned by a politician from Oakland, as I recall, and a regular sponsor of the Don Sherwood show. And those tamales were terrible, about two inches thick and mostly masa, with a bit of bad tasting something for a filling.
Not only is Tuesday associated w/Red’s Tamales,(never had them, I just remember the ads) It used to be known as Wimpy’s remuneration day…as in, “I will pay you on Tuesday, for a hamburger today” shtick.
I wish they had a fresh grilled seafood restaurant like the one across the street. I hate going to that one because of their poor taste in music which is too loud and it is too cold in there. I complained but they do not care what the customers think. I know others who will not return for that reason.
“too cold in there” What? Now I understand your usual left leaning comments. You need it warm all thje time.”I know people will not return for that reason” Really?most like an air conditioner place to eat.I guess you and your family wont be going there, its too cold, youll be hanging around out on the driveway thinking 100 degrees is just right.
Since Taco Bell doesn’t serve Mexican food, I don’t see what the big deal is.
Truth!! LOL
Let’s be honest, they will serve two completely different clienteles!
But hey, might help for the family with the picky eater. Here, have your hard shelled questionable taco from TB while I eat these amazing flautas!
I go to taco bell once in awhile, never saw anyone but Mexican ladies making the food. Seems Mexican to me.
Mcdonalds is all latinos making food, and buying it.You cant work there if you don’t speak Spanish,it just wont work.Same at jack in the box and taco bell. All fast food is Mexican food by that standard.
That’s some lazy thinking right there, doh.
Taco Bell is for the after school crowd.
It should be a small bakery with fresh homemade goods. not another Mexiban hole in the wall
To the business owners: do not serve tacos or burritos if they aren’t as good as Oakland taco trucks. We already have enough bad taquerias around here. Don’t be next cuz we will judge you
Did they get approval from the landlord??? Whole Foods, that is. Thought the contract they had said “NO OTHER FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS”.
Actual Taco Bell training footage (actually one of the best skits ever)

Great, just what we need: another lard-centric restaurant. I hope the fast food restaurants go out of business as well since they are even worse. I guess it’s your choice if you want to to settle for mediocrity, but I won’t.
Why can’t we have some decent variety — a good Cuban or Greek restaurant for example?
I’ll rather have a taqueria instead of another franchise eatery.
Taco Bell is the fifth largest fast food chain in the country after McDonald’s, Starbucks, Subway and Chic-Fil-A according to my latest issue of Nation’s Restaurant News which I just received. I doubt it’s going anywhere. But it is good news that a taqueria will be in the center.
My prediction is that Taco Bell lives long after this new taqueria goes belly up.
To Jon S: my comment reflects left politics because I think some restaurants are too cold and they have loud bad music playing? I actually think sounded like a cranky old Trumpster.
That is hilarious. 😂
Only someone clearly from somewhere else other than Ca would say “its too cold” inside a restaurant.thats not possible unless youre one of those that needs to put a jacket on,like when I rented a room from your relatives,,and they got all mad cause they came home,I had the AC on,and they got upset and put on jackets. It was 110 degress outside.I can accept that you are cold in AC and hang around on your driveway all day,but these are liberal traits by people from liberal countires.,that are usually very hot countries,It doesn’t take much other than san IQ to do a little detective work and understand ones own town people.”A restaurant that’s too cold”?during the summer?think of the others that want it that way, maybe?Ive never heard anyone say that. The bad music is a given, but its part of their atmosphere. You can probably have your mom that you still live with make you the same food for you and you 8 siblings. Why would you go to any restaurant?
The only one cranky ,BTW,are those that lost the election, and know the next one will be worse. In 18 months,Im wondering what you left will come up with next?If all you past comments clearly defend the left, why would you even disagree?I know,I know,it’s embarrassing. The right has no real worries.,other than what is upwind of them. It’s quite a spectacle of comedy everyday, leading up to your next loss.
Cranky(winning) Trumpster.
I may change my handle to that, thanks for the suggestion.Maybe just Mr deplorable to you?
I think his comment was based more on the fact that you expect them to change the music and the temperature to suit you, even though the overwhelming majority of people prefer it exactly how it is. I’m just guessing, though.
I’d like to see an Olive Garden Express open up there!
I’d like to see an Olive Garden Express open up there!
Truthfully, I like the bakery idea. Let’s get something different! I think the local area would support it! They buy the overpriced baked goods from Starbucks, which are bought somewhere else and sold at the store.
About two weeks ago, I spotted a sign in the window of the former Miyamoto Restaurant at Concord’s Denkinger Rd. Safeway shopping center….said that Los Portolas (Portalos? apologies) will be opening soon.
It’s “Los Portales”. They had great food, that I miss, previously located near Starbucks in Todo Santos Plaza. It’s good to know they will re-open soon. The people who worked there, made for a great atmosphere. If you like/love authentic Mexican food, the trip to Los Portales will be worth it.
