Fire crews have now left the scene of a three-alarm fire on Sunday night that displaced at least two families, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials.
One firefighter has been hospitalized with an injured ankle while battling the blaze that destroyed two houses in western Pleasant Hill on Sunday, Fire Captain Tracie Dutter said.
The fire was first reported shortly after 5 p.m. on Old Rodgers Ranch Court in Pleasant Hill, about a block south of the Rodgers Ranch Heritage Center historical site.
Fire Capt. Tracie Dutter said that both houses collapsed, but that flames didn’t spread to other houses on the block. PG&E crews arrived on the scene to turn off natural gas lines, and Dutter said those lines had to be shut off before firefighters could fully fight the blaze.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Wow, that could have been so much worse in that residential area. Thank you first responders (including my neighbor Station #2!) for faithfully serving our community every day. I feel so for the families who lost their homes and possessions, and hope they are able to someone recover.
One thing I noticed is that the trees appear reasonably cut back, and the redwoods in the back very healthy, they appeared to not catch fire. That may have prevented the fire from spreading more than it did, particularly in the wind yesterday.
Glad no one was hurt – hope the FF recovers quickly…
But I wonder why they used foam? Were there liquid hydrocarbons present?
