CLOSED: Evie’s Hamburgers On Ygnacio Valley Rd. Permanently Closed

Evie’s Hamburgers, located in the Encina Grande shopping center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek, has permanently closed.

The restaurant’s last day was Saturday, according to its owners. An exact reason for the closure was not provided.

This closure comes just eight months after at least one of the shopping center’s restaurants, Jade Garden, was told they would have to find a new home due to a restriction in the lease with Whole Foods that limits the square-footage of restaurants in the center. After public outcry, Jade Garden was allowed to stay.

It’s unknown if the Whole Foods lease had anything to do with the closure of Evie’s Hamburgers.

So it’s the shopping center’s fault…. good!

I was afraid they went under just because I moved.

sad face

I remember the original owners. The husband was always engaging in conversation and the food was great!

I remember the Evie’s on Contra Costa Blvd back in the mid-to-late 80’s – unsure when it closed. The car hops were on roller skates. The building was located to the left of the post office where the Three Brothers restaurant is located now.

@mohairs

Evie’s took over the building that use to be
A&W Root Beer and continued their car hop
tradition. Across the street was another
Drive in. The Pleasant Hill Motor Movies.

Restaurants dont always make. We jave lots of restaurants and places to eat in this area, to many for them all to make it.

Such a bummer. 🙁

The sign of good food is when people fight over it.

Then Golden Corral and Chuck E. Cheese must be 5-star gourmet restaurants.

I came here everyday on my lunch….and now it’s gone..what do I do with my life now man

Meal prep

Stanford’s in WC also just closed. They had great apps / happy hour. And we still miss Bella, such a good restaurant.

Not surprised about Stanfords. Lots of competition from new restaurants in Broadway Plaza area. The last time I was ate at Stanfords the food was not up to par. Whole atmosphere seemed tired and dated.

I used to frequent Evie’s when I worked in the area, but that was a LONG time ago. They always made a good hamburger.

It is sad to see them go, but at the same time I can’t help but wonder what will occupy that space. Seems to me a lot of restaurants or food places are closing these days. I seriously hope it won’t be vacant.

Stanfords Broadway Plaza, in Walnut Creek closed suddenly. without warning. No reason given, just a sign on the door sating””CLOSED PERMANENTLY”
Can’t say people didn’t see it coming with the bad hiring they did.

Stanfords always surprised me. It was their only location not in either the Portland or Seattle areas.
I used to eat at Evies when I worked a contract nearby. Good burgers that is for sure. Sad to see them close

Evie’s closure had everything to do with the lease restrictions imposed on the center by Whole Foods Market when that shopping center was updated. The next one to go will be Taco Bell. I’m not sure about Rocco’s or the other restaurants there, but apparently Whole Foods dictates who’s lease gets renewed and who’s doesn’t.

In a time where facts don’t seem to irrelevant, it would be great if you could get yours straight. Whole Foods is a tenant in the shopping center, not the landlord. They do not dictate who’s leases are renewed. Perhaps you might want to reach out to Regency Center before spreading inaccurate rumors.

Best wishes for Evie! She will always do well at whatever she endeavors.

When I ate there last, the owner told me that the landlord wouldn’t offer them a new lease.

I’m really bummed. I really liked it there.

Well I won’t be shopping at Whole Foods Market…
I don’t like bullies.

Booo again on Whole Foods!

Will never shop there again. Hope others will see the evil they do in small local neighbors and follow this boycott. If people say nothing and do nothing, we end up with a “one choice” society. Terrible.

Whole Foods tried to kill off the small Chinese joint next door too. Last year?

Both places have been there making their long-time customers happy many years before Whole Foods arrived as the new bully on the block.

Makes me sick. Hope others agree and help start a little loval movement. Most people prolly do not care, but I do.

Adios Whole Foods.

I used to enjoy Evie’s 10 years ago when I worked in the area. Frankly, the arrangement that Whole Foods made with Encina Grande’s owner seems like it should fall under anti-trust legislation. Its sole purpose was to prevent competition.
