CLOSED FOREVER: Corner Bakery Cafe In Pleasant Hill

Corner Bakery Cafe in Pleasant Hill has closed, forever.

A sign on the door didn’t give a reason for the closure, and their phone has been disconnected.

The restaurant, which is located in Crescent Plaza, has been shut down by the health department twice in the past 11 months for vermin related issues.

It was obvious for a very long time that there was nobody in charge, the place was a dirty mess and constant turnover of employees

That restaurant was not too good anyway, rats or no rats.

Oh NO! They had great sandwiches and stuff. Especially the mini Bundt cakes.

@ Jazz

Yeah, but the “Chocolate” sprinkles on top of the Bundt cakes had a very strange flavor!

they are a national chain and have locations all over even in SF

I really liked this place for the first couple of years it was open. More recently, things went downhill, as evidenced by the health department inspections. It’s just another example proving that management matters.

It was like Willard rented Joe’s Apartment.

Serves them right. Get closed multiple times by the health department and you should be shut down for good.

Haven’t been in a long time. It used to be really good!

A perfect spot for an Olive Garden! (Somebody had to say it.)

It seems brick and mortar businesses, particularly small ones, are next to impossible to keep open these days as the rents or leases for the spaces are too high. You cut back on expenses as much as possible, such as the pest control company, but still can’t cover the rent. RIP for another dream.

Plenty of brick and mortar businesses have no problem staying open.

The ones that shut down do so because of bad business practices, poor planning, and inefficient processes.

Housing is a big part of the problem. Employees of these establishments can’t afford to live anywhere near here, so it is difficult to recruit and retain motivated, happy, engaged staff.

I was the one who broke this story with a post on the “Talk About Anything” thread, but no love for me.

@WC Resident:

Awwww! Thank you my friend!

Also, I think you’re the first person ever here to use color in a post!

Wow, impressive.

Wow…how did YOU get such a scoop !! Good investigative reporting !

As others said it used to be a great option, especially with kids. Cups with Crayola crayons right as you walked in. Couldn’t bring ourselves to go back after the closures though.

Hope those who lost their job can find another quickly!

I went right after it opened, but the place never appealed to me. Seemed chaotic. I prefer organization and ease of process.

Didn’t know it had closed down for health inspections, but if I were to know, I would have never returned. That’s why I don’t like seeing those here. I don’t like knowing and it has an impact of my future visits.

By the way I used to work in the restaurant industry. If you knew have of what happens, you would never eat anywhere.

The Organic Coup, which was next to Corner Bakery, had closed not to long ago as well.

Downtown Pleasant Hill still has empty storefronts that have NEVER been rented. Constant turnover of restaurants. Just hasn’t met what the consumers want. Bad business model. Bring back the bowling alley!

We went there after it opened and it seemed like a decent place with good prices. The next two times we went back, it had a bad smell in there and the soda fountain was unclean. Booths had rips and they weren’t even that old.

I don’t think it’s a big loss for downtown

Bummer,

That chicken pesto was legit.
