DIRTY DINING: Health Inspectors Discover Vermin Infestation At Chinese Restaurant In Pleasant Hill

Ming’s Chinese Restaurant, located at 2653 Pleasant Hill Rd. in Pleasant Hill, was closed this week after inspectors from the Contra Costa County Department of Environmental Health say they found the following:

  • Observed rodent dropping in the following areas:
    – below shelving next to dry storage food bins
    – below shelving rack across from dry food bins
    – next to beer on floor
    – below storage cart (between food prep sinks)

The restaurant was also inspected in February. Inspectors say they saw an employee cutting broccoli with a bandage on his finger, and noticed two employees rinse hands without soap. Inspectors also say they discovered the raw chicken was stored next to the ready-to-eat cabbage mixture.

The restaurant has since been reinspected and reopened.

Sometimes you just have to wonder. You can’t just kick out food you have to keep your place sanitary. How hard is that?

You’ve never worked in a restaurant have you Ricardoh?

That’s just disgusting. There’s NO reason for that, Mings. You run a good business AND I EAT THERE FOR GOD’S SAKE!

Shocked. That place had already been so clean!

The rodents must’ve thirsty:
“– next to beer on floor”

Popular restaurant though.

Love Mings, those little guys can move in in a day (have had them in our storage shed). Will not stop me from going and enjoying their excellant food!!

I think pretty much all these places have roaches. it,s just luck of the draw on which day the inspector gets there and finds the filth. yummy yummy in da tummy !

Try the Rat Suey. It is sustainably sourced!

We use to go to Mings often. The food is not as good as it use to be. There are not very many good Chinese restaurants around the Claycord area.

Try the Chinese Kitchen on Clayton Road. We’ve been eating there for +25 years. Killer Hot and Sour Soup and great lunch specials.

Chinese Kitchen is a 25 plus year favorite for us as well.
West end of El Monte area, where Chestnut Avenue meets Clayton Road.

Just check CoCo Health’s Food Facility Closure List. Ming’s was allowed to reopen on 3/6, the day after it was closed down.

I also saw that another PH eatery, Corner Bakery and Cafe in downtown PH, was closed yesterday for vermin infestation. 2nd time in less than a year it has been closed by Health Dept.

Corner Bakery seems to need some adult supervision.

I walked past Cornery Bakery & Cafe today and noticed it was closed with a cryptic simple printed paper taped to the door saying they were Temporarily Closed. I was immediately suspicious because I remember they were closed by the health dept last year. Sorry to hear they failed again. I age there a couple years ago and like my sandwich, but I’m not interested in returning now that had repeated problems. I wonder if the building has an infestation such that a single tenant can’t get rid of them on their own.

Rats were responsible for spreading plaques that killed people. Of course the fleas that bit the rats contributed to spreading disease also. In our modern world, civilized people should not have to worry about this sort of sanitation problem in restaurants that we support with our hard earned money. Stay safe…eat at home!

WTF! Why do Chinese restaurants always have sanitary & infestation problems?!? It’s not difficult to use sanitizer and have an account with an exterminator.

No if they can just do something about their rude ass attitudes. It’s too bad to place has amazing food.

I knew it! Ming’s was great chinese food until a year ago. Same owner, unfortunaley they fell off. Maybe a different head chef, I dont know. But the food got me sick the past two times I ate at Ming’s. The first time we got sick, Ming’s owner gave us a full refund. The 2nd time, we just decided to not go back. Now this?!

Ming’s! You were my #1 chinese food spot in the East Bay. Ughh, now I’m sticking to Panda when I want American Chinese food. Mmmm Sugar chicken

My parents were having lunch when the inspector came into mings Chinese restaurant.
The next thing they new, the lights in the building were turned off as customers were leaving.
It was closed on the spot!
Hard to swallow (pun intended) when you are eating a meal as the health department is shutting down the resturant for health violations.

Wow. That would be weird, and disconcerting. I assume they didn’t have to pay for the meal.

Owner was rude to me when I said they forgot my 2 sodas and had me go back to my car to show him the bag! Did he seriously think I was trying to scam him out of 2 drinks?

This never surprises me because
if you’ve ever noticed the dumpsters
being emptied in Concord (3 times a week)
by Concord Disposal, the operators never close
the dumpster lids when they leave. This creates huge
Rodent and varment feeding troughs throughout
The city everyday! Concord disposal claims it’s the
Business’s fault. I disagree.

I ate there once a few years ago and I didn’t care for the food. I didn’t go back. I’m a bit surprised to read that so many people like their food. Maybe we were there when the usual cook was on vacation?

I worked in a restaurant as a dishwasher for about 8 days and after that it took me a long time to eat in a restaurant.
