MAJOR violation – No insects, rodents, birds or animals present

I don’t understand. If no bugs or animals were present, why a major violation? In fact, all the violations listed said everything was clean/sanitary.

It was a violation of the code that states that “no insects, rodents, or animals are present.” So for each major and minor violation, they are stating what the code is and that it was violated. Yeah, kinda confusing.

Thank goodness for health inspections, and access to information. Or it wouldn’t be worth it to eat out anymore. Is it getting worse, or is it exposure? Or both?

Kentucky -inspections are the same as before but the labeling with green, yellow, red is new. Having said that this is a county problem due to the drought then the massive rains the year after. If you talk to anyone who does rodent control they will tell you they have never seen anything like this.

One company I called for our house, never had rodents before for 25 years, told me they have been in business 35 years and they have never seen what is going on now.

Agreeing with you. This is a countywide problem . The rats are out of control. Basic sanitation for citizens who pay taxes is something for our local politicians to look at closely.
If the restaurant is closed due to cock a roach infestation well that would be the responsibility of the restaurant owner and management.

Nooooooo, not the Original Pancake House! 🙁

Don’t worry? Yes worry! After the fact is too late. Public expects Restaurateur to take care of the problem while it exists, not after the health inspector shuts you down . It’s not as if they can’t see the problem and the health inspector had to point it out to them.
Kitchen staff can see what’s going on in their kitchen.
Too late..who would want to eat there now. We want to patronize your business. But if you can’t protect the health of your customers, then its hard to regain our trust.

I am shocked at the recent uptick in restaurant closings, especially in Pleasant Hill, which is a very nice area. There never were so many closings just a few years ago.

The rains we had in winter a year ago combined with more this year has created a bumper crop of plants and as a result, there are more rodents and then everything that eats the rodents such as snakes, foxes, etc.

Oh well, with all these restaurant closings it makes one not want to eat out anymore. Good, think of the money we will save. Dave Ramsey will be proud.

Looks like management failed to train their employees, or were not trained themselves. And not washing hands or hair in the kitchen, gross. Thank you Health Department for doing your job.

Ate there last about a year ago and had whipped cream that was rancid. Haven’t been back since. Not a shock.

Used to like that spot, gave up on it a couple years ago. Bad service, short staffed, and now dirty dining? Not going back ever

You have to seal up all their entrances. Those electronic rodent repellant things that emit a beep work well, too. I didn’t believe that they would, but I was pleasantly surprised at how effective they are. You plug them in (I found near water sources worked best) to get the little guys to leave first, and then start sealing up the places they are getting in. The beep is audible, but more like a clicking sound, and pretty soon you don’t even notice it. I’ve seen them on Amazon. Mine are manufactured by Sunbeam and they came in a three pack.

Rats quickly get used to the electronic rodent repellent things. Mice are not as quick to adapt but also start ignoring the noise maker.

I’ve been using them exclusively and quite successfully for more than ten years. It was money well spent.

Got mine at QVC, by the way.

They only work indoors, however. There may still be mice and/or rats in the surrounding area outside that will be unaffected by the electronic beep..

I’m curious about the real world, nuts and bolts, procedure of red tagging a restaurant. Does the manager maybe lie and say there’s been an emergency and I’m sorry we have to close? Or does the health inspector stand on a table with a bullhorn and advise everyone to spit out whatever food is still in their mouth? How does it go down?

That place is so overrated. Tried it when I moved to Concord and was not impressed. Wondered how on earth is the waiting time always long if mediocre food is served.

That was my first impression. Ate there once and never returned.

The health department has a lengthy list of restaurants with health issues and violations.
These are the facilities that they are inspecting. We wonder what other restaurants have growing or percolating in, or on their floors and kitchen
prep areas?

HUGE bummer for me.
Their omelets are AMAZING.

This is far too many infractions to make an excuse… I will (sadly) not be returning.

I totally agree. Minor violations are one thing. Major violations (along certain lines) are a different story.

Who operates the Original Pancake House? Is it locally owned or corporate?

That place is crap.

Not surprised. Have eaten there once. Service was terrible and the staff was rude. I kindly asked for the “preserves” that were supposed to come with my French toast and was rudely told (or yelled at) it doesn’t come with it although it stated right there on the menu that it did. I guess they are too cheap to provide the basket of jam varieties on the table like so many other restaurants do. No big deal, I’ll just eat somewhere else.
