Not Surprised, Most Government agency’s have infrastructure so old and vulnerable the security is a joke. Problem is the outcome will just end up in more taxes.

Ok. But my first question is why? P-Hill sitting on a fortune, or trade secrets or a good meth recipe?

It’s for whatever money the hackers can get the city to pay them. Some cities negotiate and pay them less. The hackers still come out ahead. This sounds like PH had a plan in place to thwart them.
good job PH.

The Martinez police department once put up some pictures on their online response center and there was a post-it right on the monitor with the password clearly visible. It was probably only for their local network but then…

I always thought that more stringent penalties should have been handed out for hacking because now it’s almost completely ruined the Internet. Instead the dodos that ran big tech rewarded the hackers with well paying jobs. 🙄

Most likely what happened was an employee clicked on a link that they shouldn’t have which caused the attack. Good luck IT caught it quick before any big issues came from it. Cyber attackers love to try and hit anything Government. Wasn’t there a cyber attack in LA which caused a ton of issue? We’re always told at work if you get a random email with a link or attachment never open it.

@City_Guy – the city of Oakland, particularly the police department, was shut down for a few weeks in February 2023. It looks like Hayward in July 2023 and Dallas in August 2023 also had to deal with ransomware style attacks.

All businesses and governments are constantly under attack. From time to time an attack succeeds. Governments tend to be more transparent, I think it’s because government failures are noticed by more people and they have less ability to sweep an issue under the rug. Consider for example that AT&T has not said a word about what happened, number of customers impacted, etc. when they suffered what looked like a nationwide cell phone outage this past week.

20 years if great, however this kind of attack is usually based in an unfriendly country….RU…NK…IR…ect.. We need some sort of firewall to theses counties.. I am not a techie guy, so not sure this is possible.

Nothing to worry about partisan judges & prosecutors have proven beyond a doubt that voting machines are impossible to hack…. unless you have a ball point pen.
