Nobody here as I sign on but I’m sure I’m not 1st.

Book report: Off the Main Sequence, Robert A Heinlein, various dates between 1939 to 1963. Collection of short stories and short books. It has one of my “twisted” favorites; All You Zombies, 1959. Let There Be Light brought a concept of solar panels, 1939. The concept of using an ordinary airplane to attack the country in place of A-bomb can be found in On The Slopes of Vesuvius, 1980. If you get a copy of this collection, enjoy.

Captain Bebops August 13, 2022 at 9:20 AM

The Heinlein book I read in the late 60’s was “Stranger in a Strange Land” which made quite an impression on me. Back in 2016 the Syfy channel was planning a series based on the book. I’ll have to see whatever happened to that.

Dorothy August 13, 2022 at 10:36 AM

Captain Bebops, that one made an impression on a lot of us. I have it but haven’t gotten to the box it is in yet.

Hope everyone is going to have some fun this weekend.

Hey Simonpure~
Hope You are feeling better, getting out, and done with the stitches.
Did You and Missy get a replacement car yet?
We might be car shopping soon since my ‘Beast’ is 30 years.
Thinking of doing a road trip to Colorado instead of flying.
Hugs ~ Roz

Simonpure August 13, 2022 at 8:30 AM

Good morning my friend Roz..YES! I am a little better each and every day. LOL. My Grandson came over Wednesday and stitches came out Tuesday. When he came in the front door he said “Papa look! Your face is all better” Then his Daddy came in and he was so excited he said ” Daddy look! Papa’s face is all better. I couldn’t help but laugh even though it hurts. Kids are so darned cute. Yes Roz…get a new car with all the safety stuff. Without that I wouldn’t be here. Actually a great road trip out to Colorado. Just start saving for it now so it doesn’t hurt so bad. $$$$ Take your time and enjoy the trip. Make plenty of stops. Bet your daughter will be so happy to see you two. As always my favorite big sis…Peace and loves!

JOKE TIME … Saw my doctor last week because I thought my weight might be getting out of control … I confirmed this my doctor called me into the exam room and said “Open your mouth and say ‘oink’ “.

I was sitting in a bar and two really large women came in, talking in an interesting accent.
So I said, “Cool accent, are you two ladies from Ireland?”
One of them snarled at me, “It’s Wales, dumbo!”
So I corrected myself, “Oh, right, so are you two whales from Ireland?”
That’s all I remember Doc until I woke up here.

Don’t believe every thing you hear about giving your cat a bath. I’ts not a disaster like they say. I gave my cat a bath and it went so well I’m going to be doing it regularly from now on. Only problem was the fur sticks to your tongue.

paranoid pablito August 12, 2022 at 9:25 PM

What’s wrong with me? I laughed way too hard at this little gem I read last week: “I want my remains to be scattered over Disneyland. Also, I don’t want to be cremated.”

Fred August 13, 2022 at 7:18 AM

I went to Backstreet Boys as a neighbor female did not feel safe going alone. We were on the lawn and we left at the tail end of event. The amount of garbage on the lawn was unreal. If this is common from this generation – we are in trouble. Of course – there are many garbage cans at the top of the lawn and you have to walk by them upon leaving.
What you your comments ??
Like the show ?

Bill August 13, 2022 at 10:11 AM

Fred about the garbage…not many people care anymore. It’s an all about me world. Let someone else pick up the garbage, not my problem they say.

Has anyone been up to the Vietnam memorial recently? I was up there yesterday and was very disappointed by the shoddy condition it is in. The grass was all burned up except for a couple of spots where the sprinklers halfway work. It is disgusting and so disrespectful to our fallen service men and women that the city of concord has neglected to maintain a once beautiful memorial.
How hard would be to fix the sprinklers so they water the lawn instead of pouring down the path and down the hill. I’m sure the city will have an excuse for not doing a simple job. Obviously, the city of concord management and council don’t care.

Pick One:

A) Farina
B) Pablum
C) no thanks, I still have my teeth

Cyn August 13, 2022 at 12:38 PM

@S
Another set of good ones that I had to look up. Nice going. I choose C.

S August 13, 2022 at 11:02 PM

Cyn,

😁

Bad Nombre August 13, 2022 at 11:28 PM

D) Grits

Jim August 14, 2022 at 10:21 AM

Who are they..?

S August 14, 2022 at 1:26 PM

I’m just guessing “B” was fed to me as an infant, seems something my folks would use as a go to. They were never cream of wheat fans, so that’s why I didn’t pick “A”…

I like the “D”; B N. for breakfast and supper….. Gotta get the old fashioned though. Quick or instant just doesn’t work…..

this weeks Pick One came to mind as I was gonna buy some Pablum for a light-joke. Was sad to find it isn’t made anymore…

I bought a new truck and I was told by the salesman and 2 different finance guys that it was mandatory to have a GPS system installed on my truck for $995. Now I’m thinking I was scammed. Any ideas?

Jeff (the other one) August 13, 2022 at 2:05 PM

depends on who deems it mandatory. Dealerships very often will not sell a vehicle (in my experience) without add-ons they can charge money for. You have to be prepared to walk away, and maybe not even get the car you want, unless you agree to these additional accessories. I personally have walked away from at least 4 car buys.. If sales are hot, you most likely will not get the car you want; if there is a sales slump, they will call you back. I would think there is no state requirement for GPS, but with the legislators in this state, who knows.

Doh August 13, 2022 at 4:00 PM

New cars are being sold without spare tires. Dealers claim it saves gas. I doubt the 20 pounds a tire weighs saves much gas. Walk away because the little air pumps they give don’t work. When the pumps don’t work you are in for an expensive tow. And they supply lower grade tires because they are cheaper.

If enough people walk away this will change.

Kentucky Derby August 13, 2022 at 9:20 PM

A GPS system isn’t mandatory, nor is it required by law. Salesman work on commission. Hopefully your GPS will come in handy one day, and it was money well spent.

Just keep in mind everything is negotiable and beat them at their own game. Walking away is always an option.

We had two small jets fly over the creek in formation today. Anyone know what that was about?
Also two brilliant people pistol whipped a guy in the shopping center I use yesterday and they couldn’t even get a mile before they crashed. They were arrested but are nameless. Going after a Rolex I think, in the daylight.

WC Resident August 14, 2022 at 4:15 PM

The jets were for the 100 anniversary of the concept of the aircraft carrier. They circled Walnut Creek for about half an hour until it was time to do a 12:30pm flyby of the USS. Hornet in Alameda. It was a pair of Navy F-18 super hornets.

Someone sent a good picture of the jets over Walnut Creek to News24.

Which movie about music legends is you favorite, La Bamba about Richie Valens, Walk the Line, about Johnny Cash or The Doors, Jim Morrison, as an afterthought let me add “The Temptations” about well The Temptations.

JWB August 13, 2022 at 2:24 PM

So many to chose, how about the Go-Go’s (2020) documentary?

Cyn August 13, 2022 at 5:10 PM

@Hanne
I recently watched Bohemian Rhapsody and thought Rami Malek was outstanding.

Roz August 14, 2022 at 6:52 AM

@ Cyn ~ I agree!

Dr. Jellyfinger August 14, 2022 at 11:07 AM

The Buddy Holly Story

Dawg August 14, 2022 at 5:31 PM

Coal Miner’s Daughter would be my first pick. I can’t imagine anybody outperforming Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn.
Walk the Line was good, and Joaquín Phoenix did an excellent job, but out of the ones you mentioned, I will go with The Temptations. The Temptations, in real life, had their act together, and their moves were always in sync. They were one of the best groups to come out of Motown.

took my daughter to see Spiceworld about 25 years ago….

Does that count?

Hanne Jeppesen August 13, 2022 at 4:32 PM

Yes, there are many to choose from l picked the ones that came to my mind first and the ones l liked most. I’m not a fan of country music, but like some of Johnny Cash’s songs, and thought Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal portraying him. My favorite has to be The Doors, l always loved their music, and Val Kilmer’s Jim Morrison was as sexy as Jim. Love the music of The Temptations as well. However, The Doors is one of my favorite bands might be # 1.

No Excuses August 13, 2022 at 9:17 PM

In the high 90’s all week (Tue 100!) Store some extra drinking water in the fridge or freezer to get you through this next week my friends. & Try to do your cooking late at night. 🙂 I have a huge pot of “stew” going on the stove now— I can nuke portions of it for several days… IF the Grid holds up!

Bill August 18, 2022 at 5:19 PM

Just read on abc7 news that Lucky Stores are closing all in store Pharmacy’s in California.

The Old Goat August 19, 2022 at 1:21 AM

Bill, that would be pharmacies, not pharmacy’s, and I hope it doesn’t extend to stores beyond Lucky. Safeway is very convenient for me, always polite and helpful.

Bill August 19, 2022 at 9:16 AM

Thanks Old Goat…
