The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Today’s question:

Californians are set to get about $250 – $400 for a gas rebate.

Payments will be going to Californians, regardless of vehicle ownership. More money will be provided if a person has a dependent.

23 million Californians will be eligible for payments. The money will be sent in late October.

QUESTION: Do you think this money should only go to people who have driver licenses, and do you think it’s enough?

Talk about it….

“The money will be sent in late October.”

How about that, democrats BUYING votes using taxpayer dollars just before an election.

Sancho Panza June 27, 2022 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

Exactly, OG! To help combat short-term memory loss…palms will be greased right before election…including non vehicle owners and their dependents.

Badge1104 June 27, 2022 - 1:28 PM - 1:28 PM

Exactly! When they first talked about it I knew they would bring it out just for the election trying to buy votes! If you can’t see this then you are blind as to the corruption in the Democrat party! Newsom is a smiling snake!

Doh June 28, 2022 - 10:12 AM - 10:12 AM

Just like Bush W did in 2008 when he released the oil reserves in 2008.

Simonpure June 27, 2022 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

Nothing more than a Band-Aid. Keep the money and fix the real problem.

Tsa June 27, 2022 - 12:51 PM - 12:51 PM

And the real problem is ???
Taxes too high
Financially ignorant politicians in charge of spending
Narcissistic politicians in office
Progressive DA’s not enforcing current laws
Voters not having the resolve to break the cycle of deterioration
Lack of ethics and morals
And the list goes on and on…

Simonpure June 27, 2022 - 1:22 PM - 1:22 PM

Guess I should have said “problems”.

Tsa June 27, 2022 - 1:53 PM - 1:53 PM

Amen 😀

Roz June 27, 2022 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

Nope,….Nobody should get a gas rebate.
Biden need to give us back the pipeline for oil to bring down gas prices.
Then people can get back to work on the pipeline and afford to live.
Win -Win!

Simonpure June 27, 2022 - 12:57 PM - 12:57 PM

You tell’em Big Sister 🙂

Yes but that would be going against the Destroy America Plan if they did something like that. not power to the people ,,,,,, it’s power over the people.

Doh June 28, 2022 - 10:10 AM - 10:10 AM

Pipelines could work if they didn’t build them so cheaply they keep leaking.

Exit 12A June 27, 2022 - 12:39 PM - 12:39 PM

.
Gas tax rebates should only be provided to registered gasoline-powered or hybrid vehicle owners.
.
Anything less so is just another pass thru to non-vehicle owners who are not entitled to a rebate.
.

Strad June 27, 2022 - 1:36 PM - 1:36 PM
ERas June 27, 2022 - 1:43 PM - 1:43 PM

So I don’t own my own vehicle currently (long story), but am commuting every day with one I borrowed from family (temporarily). But I buy my own gas with my own money and pay them the insurance premiums. So why should I not be entitled to a gas rebate?

Simply owning a vehicle does not mean you are:
A) actually using it (my friend has 2 old cars that are registered, but just sit there),
B) the one buying the gas.

Strad June 27, 2022 - 2:27 PM - 2:27 PM

Non car owners are getting money. No problem for you.

Randy June 27, 2022 - 2:33 PM - 2:33 PM

+1 ..that’s where the tax $$ came from …and then Newsom is still holding about $88B hostage – why not refund that back to taxpayers if he’s not going to spend it on worthwhile projects instead of his own?

Jeff (the other one) June 27, 2022 - 7:28 PM - 7:28 PM

wholly opposed to the payoff to buy votes. @ERas, not arguing that you should or should not get, immaterial really, but you just stated a phrase that just annoys the s out of me (not criticizing you at all, by the way, just, well, venting via this post), but I hate to hear “be entitled,” the whole entitlement thing makes me wretch. OK, done venting.

American Citizen June 27, 2022 - 12:43 PM - 12:43 PM

All lies and just look at the timing!!! Right before the election. We have over a dollar of tax per gallon of fuel. Get rid of that. How about bridge tolls as well!! They take so much from us. Cannot wait to move to Idaho.

MoJo June 27, 2022 - 12:43 PM - 12:43 PM

I think the refund should be based on the amount purchased and go to people who have actually purchased fuel in California by requiring receipts. I also think the timing of the refund is very suspicious (late October) right before the midterms. Buying votes again are we? For a long term solution how about you clowns in Sacramento permanently reduce the taxes on fuel and get to the bottom of the California price gouging.

ERas June 27, 2022 - 1:46 PM - 1:46 PM

I agree with it actually going to people who buy gas, but who actuaally keeps those reciepts? Maybe dig through a bank statement aand find the charges? Depends on how far back the bank lets you see…

Half full June 27, 2022 - 2:36 PM - 2:36 PM

Gee to me it’s ano brainer.
Own a car
Get the refund
No car
No refund
Pretty easy to understand

Old-school guy June 27, 2022 - 12:45 PM - 12:45 PM

Forget the rebates. Increasing supply (drill, baby, drill) is the way to bring down prices. Politicians forget the supply and demand curves in Econ 101.

Coco June 27, 2022 - 12:48 PM - 12:48 PM

Why not just suspend the California gas tax until the price of crude oil drops to normal. it would decrease the price by 53.9 cents gallon.

Tango Hotel June 27, 2022 - 2:44 PM - 2:44 PM

If the drop the gas tax it does not mean the gas stations will drop their prices by that much. I would expect they will keep the prices the same and pocket the extra 53.9 cents and not pass those savings on to the drivers, same if Buyem, I mean Biden suspends the national gas tax.

As for the refund,. I say Dumbocraps, I mean Democrats trying to buy more votes. I say don’t vote for incumbents Democrat or Republican. Get some new people in office and dump the lifetime politicians.

TTD June 27, 2022 - 1:00 PM - 1:00 PM

I was listening to the news this morning and I thought they said the rebates would not be sent out until January 2023. Instead of sending a rebate, CA should temporarily suspend the Ca gas taxes, that way the individuals purchasing gas will benefit directly and proportionately to the amount of money they spend on gas. Right now the rebate is calculated on a number of different factors.

Glen223 June 27, 2022 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

Owners of gas-powered or hybrid vehicles only.

Anon June 27, 2022 - 1:10 PM - 1:10 PM

You don’t need to have proof of having a vehicle????

Sounds so very……..WOKE

Get Woke = Go broke

ConcordMike June 27, 2022 - 1:27 PM - 1:27 PM

Suspend the gas tax for two years! Starting Today!! Problem solved

wcmom June 27, 2022 - 1:30 PM - 1:30 PM

The whole EDD debacle was a total cluster. This oughta be just another.

idiots everywhere June 27, 2022 - 1:49 PM - 1:49 PM

And don’t forget all the fake community college students which the schools continue to hide to increase their own funding.

Ricardoh June 27, 2022 - 1:34 PM - 1:34 PM

More madness. Right after a rebate they will raise the gas tax. Which is set to go up every year. That’s how the democrats get bribe money. The Robin Hood method.

Jeff (the other one) June 27, 2022 - 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

@ Ricardo…except instead of robbing the rich to give to the poor, they rob from the producers to give to themselves, just in a byzantine method.

The Fearless Spectator June 27, 2022 - 1:41 PM - 1:41 PM

Will incarcerated guys get a check also? Of course they will.

Free money thrown around indiscriminately by the feds has really screwed up the economy. To that end, Newsom wants to duplicate the Biden economic destruction while also purchasing votes. What an a******.

All the people who don’t need the check should blow their nose on it and send it back.

idiots everywhere June 27, 2022 - 1:47 PM - 1:47 PM

I don’t have much faith in the State getting the disbursement right given their prior history with perhaps a billion in fraudulent EDD and tens of thousand of phantom community college students receiving financial aid for no attendance.

Superstitious Aloysius June 27, 2022 - 2:14 PM - 2:14 PM

I’m glad we’re leaving. Four weeks from today we are outta here! I don’t care if I get any of that funny money or not. Sad to see my place birth become a socialist nightmare.

OverWhelmed June 27, 2022 - 2:19 PM - 2:19 PM

Just one more way CA is giving the illegals free money from the tax payers.

Jim June 27, 2022 - 3:29 PM - 3:29 PM

Fighting inflation with more inflation. God help us.

Dr. Jellyfinger June 27, 2022 - 4:39 PM - 4:39 PM

And the money they are giving us is OUR MONEY to begin with!
They give us just a little bit back and we are supposed to be happy about it?

yoyohop June 27, 2022 - 3:34 PM - 3:34 PM

OPEN ALL TOLL LANES IMMEDIATELY!

redrazor June 28, 2022 - 3:00 PM - 3:00 PM

+100 to YoYo!! The “toll lanes” are a travesty. What a serious scam too.
Why should I have to pay $9.50 to go a lousy 8 or 9 miles from San Ramon to Walnut Creek and visa-versa???!!

Old-school guy June 27, 2022 - 3:56 PM - 3:56 PM

In other news, Californians will pay 3 cents more per gallon when a voter-approved tax takes effect on Friday July 1. Of course this only affects owners of gas-powered cars. I sense a bias here.

Aunt Barbara June 27, 2022 - 4:21 PM - 4:21 PM

It is not even enough to cover a tank of gas for some..

Obamavirus June 27, 2022 - 5:10 PM - 5:10 PM

This is an ideological response to a problem that was caused by ideological decision making. This is the Democrat response to every problem. Tax the middle class as much as possible and give away to illegal immigrants and crack addicts. ( after finding a way to take a cut for themselves) The Democrat junta will have to be dissolved from a strong national revival of conservative thinking in 2024.

Bob June 27, 2022 - 5:15 PM - 5:15 PM

The timing says it all

Trolling the Chuckie June 27, 2022 - 6:09 PM - 6:09 PM

Here’s an idea, suspend vehicle registration for a year (except for EV’s). Let the DMV decide who gets the money. They know who is driving a fuel powered vehicle as opposed to electric cars.

October payments is very suspect. But not unusual for the vote buying party.

bendavis801 June 27, 2022 - 7:05 PM - 7:05 PM

Instead of some BS rebate how about rolling back the Federal Regulations like drilling for oil on federal land and opening up the pipelines again like Trump did. That is how you get gas back down to $3.00 per gallon in CA
I can’t believe most people are falling for this bologna.

Led June 27, 2022 - 9:52 PM - 9:52 PM

Surely the past couple years have shown that if you just print money and throw it at the population, they get a short term benefit which is then swallowed up by the effects of runaway inflation.

So why do something inflationary right now? Or rather, right before the elections… Oh, I get it

Mo June 28, 2022 - 4:51 AM - 4:51 AM

“Rebate” suggests giving money back to someone who paid for something. How does a gas rebate apply to people “regardless of vehicle ownership”? That’s not a rebate.

The above said, I am glad Californians will get something back from their state government. It’s about time.

Steve June 28, 2022 - 9:47 AM - 9:47 AM

Go after the oil companies which you said you were investigating. How is that going?
$250 = 2 tanks of gas
