Concord police arrested a man on multiple charges Monday night after he became confrontational with an officer and climbed onto the roof of a gas station before threatening to light it on fire, police said.

The incident began with a routine traffic stop Monday at the Chevron station on Oak Grove Rd. at Treat Blvd.

The suspect was immediately confrontational with the officer who had pulled him over and then climbed onto the roof of a gas station nearby and refused to come down, according to the police account.

A member of the department’s crisis negotiations team arrived and began a conversation with the suspect, who police did not identify.

“During the conversation, the Suspect obtained a lighter and threatened to light fire to the gas station, however fortunately he did not,” reads the online post.

The suspect eventually agreed to come down and was taken into custody.

Police found a loaded handgun and an illegal 30-round magazine in the car of the suspect, whom they determined is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.

The suspect was booked on suspicion of multiple offenses, including driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, resisting arrest and a multitude of firearms offenses.

.
A felon in possession of a firearm…?
.
CA’s STRICT GUN CONTROL LAWS ARE WORKING WELL!!!

Amateur Teacher June 22, 2022 - 6:35 AM - 6:35 AM

The Left: “omg guns are bad we need to regulate them more”

Gun related crimes: “person in question was able to skirt existing regulations to obtain a firearm illegally as existing regulations would have prohibited this person from possessing a firearm.”

Morons.

Doh June 22, 2022 - 5:03 PM - 5:03 PM

If only there were background checks to prevent felons from buying a gun. Or a law that prevent a mentally unstable 18 year old from buying an assault weapon to shoot up a school.

Dr Jellyfinger June 22, 2022 - 6:27 PM - 6:27 PM

Doh…. you’re kidding right?
You know those laws already exist right?
Plus a 10 day waiting period to take possession?
Yeah.
CA. even requires a background check for ammo purchases.

Some states do not require background checks between private individuals. Sales like that in California must be conducted thru a FFL dealer.

The progressives have destroyed law enforcement with their woke agenda. They have no one to blames but themselves.

ConcordMike June 23, 2022 - 8:42 AM - 8:42 AM

Has anyone searched to see if he has been released from jail yet? Should be going back to prison for parole violation AND these new charges.

Anon2you June 23, 2022 - 12:29 PM - 12:29 PM

I looked on the Concord PD site the when this occurred and I couldn’t even find it listed as an arrest? Might have just given the person a “harsh talking to” and let him go on his promise NOT do do naughty stuff anymore. Then they likely returned the gun an lighter to him as well.
