What do Vlad the Impaler and Winnie the Pooh have in common?
They have the same middle name.

Jojothecircusclown May 29, 2022 at 3:04 AM

Hey … take it easy … I am related … but good joke anyhow … Props!

Martinez Police get a visit from the First Amendment Auditor. How’d they do?

Anonymous May 28, 2022 at 11:05 AM

That was CCC Sheriffs, not MPD. That horrible din in the background was traffic on Highway 4.

That crime lab guy was trolled hard. If he would have just given the auditor a piece of candy, it was have probably gone differently. They have a bowl of candy in a public area and then tell the guy he can’t have any. That’s about as police as it gets.

Captain Bebops May 28, 2022 at 12:50 PM

The office employees most likely haven’t had any training for this situation and are improvising often with no real knowledge of any rules. The video helps expose this.

Cyn May 29, 2022 at 12:11 PM

@Captain Bebops
With the exception of Sgt. Mike, I totally agree. Mr. Jimenez, that forensic supervisor, was a complete idiot.

Busy Memorial Day Weekend ahead of us. Lunch out with new friends today. Neighborhood Bonfire this evening and then a Church picnic tomorrow. Found a great recipe for smoked wings and will make my usual salsa.

On the book front, finished the Ron Chernow biography of Grant. Looks long at 959 pages but an excellent and interesting read. Next up is The Fall of the Roman Empire by Peter Heather.

Enjoy your weekend, don’t pull a Hoffmeister, be kind to those around you and be thankful for the people who gave their lives so we could enjoy peace and freedom.

Just curious how many of you still watch or listen to local or world news?

Deb Shay May 28, 2022 at 8:30 AM

I dont watch, I read the news. Online and Epoch Times in print. And take all with a grain of salt…or a salt shaker’s worth with anything from MSM. I also subscribe to a few substacks where the hardhitting news is. But I consume absolutely nothing from CNN…liars all!

Ricardoh May 28, 2022 at 9:02 AM

I tape the ten o’clock channel 2 news. All they have for news is one social protest after another. It takes me almost ten minutes to watch the hour long program. Sometimes less that that. I love my fast forward button.

Anonymous May 28, 2022 at 11:09 AM

I gave up on the local TV news 20 years ago. There were some very import local and national issues taking place at the time, and the local TV news stations ignored them and focused on local feel-good stories like saving cats and feeding transients.

I gave up on KGO, KRON, KPIX and all that garbage at that point. It was the last straw.

And then when Comcast stop supporting our old TV in 2015, we didn’t replace it. We haven’t watched TV since.

Bad Nombre May 28, 2022 at 4:05 PM

Who even provides real news anymore as opposed to commentary?

Before the rise of the Internet, when shortwave radio was still popular, I listened to a lot of world news on that medium. Also, in years past my employer had a library stocked with major newspapers and the university library carried many foreign papers.

At first the Internet made access to news from a variety of sources rather easy but it seems to take more work than it used to and the click based business model has seriously degraded the truthfulness of what is peddled.

The Fearless Spectator May 28, 2022 at 9:09 PM

Nope. But remember, we are going through an incredible transition. And God willing, the middle class will be broke by the time the nation emerges stronger…….or some such nonsense.

Glen223 June 2, 2022 at 8:16 AM

It’s all opinion to grab ratings – very little factual reporting going on.

S May 28, 2022 at 12:08 PM

tis a pre-Pick One story first and then……

Is no secret I am not a fan of turkey, but will smoke one at holidays if that’s what my people want…. Which brings me to Turkey Legs….

When I was little; we weren’t well off, so we had roasted turkey legs often as they were though as scrap/crap meat and inexpensive. Gross to me for many reasons…..

Some years back Spouse & I went to Disney World… And Turkey Legs were all the craz… People walking all about the parks sucking on the greasy slimy drumsticks; smearing the goo all over their faces… I don’t get it….

Now days…. the things are huge at Fairs, Amusement Parks, and such…. People like them so much (I don’t know why) that if you see them fresh in stores $4.50 or more a pound for large ones.

Bored yet? That’s ok…. You can stop reading if Ya’ want…..

I just learned the other day that my Daughter and Sonny-In-Law’s last visit to a Renaissance Faire yielded him NO TURKEY LEGS! He was horribly disappointed because that is his main goal when going…..

I decided I’m going to surprise him and smoke a few… Haven’t found smoke worthy legs yet, but I will; may have to float a loan for them: GHEEZE…

I am deciding on the brine for them…. But will be similar to Renaissance Faire style; cause that’s what Sonny likes…. Which now brings me to this weeks….

Pick One:
A) Smoked Turkey Leg Disney Style
B) Smoked Turkey Leg Renaissance Style
C) Count me in with “S”; Gross Slimy YUCK YUCK YUCK

Dawg May 28, 2022 at 1:06 PM

C) I’m with you, I’m not a turkey fan either. I can eat the white meat, smoked, or deep-fried. The dark meat, especially the drumstick, is a big YUCK.
Actually, Peking duck is the only bird I like, but they are cute little guys, so I’d rather not think about them when I’m eating.

Cowellian May 28, 2022 at 2:01 PM

I am now, and have always been a thigh man, whether it’s chicken, turkey, or whatever. The kids used to love getting their own drumsticks but seem to have outgrown their fondness for it. So now, the meat from the legs gets pulled off the bone, and along with other leftover meat, eventually becomes a turkey potpie.

Jeff (the other one) May 28, 2022 at 2:33 PM

I am opposite of you @S, I love turkey. Year before last, went through 10 of them between a couple weeks before Thanksgiving through mid-January (bought a couple and froze them). Much like @Cowellian, big time thigh guy as well. My family laugh at me, and sometimes, it is because of my love of turkey…

That said, tried a disney turkey leg, and found it awful, tasted like bad ham. Will never get that again (in part, not going to disney unless/until they stop their nonsense). Never been to a Renaissance Faire, but I would venture I like my turkey roasted, not smoked at all.

Simonpure May 28, 2022 at 6:53 PM

My son just smoked a pork butt…top of the line and I’m not even pork guy…delish!!

Bad Nombre May 28, 2022 at 8:14 PM

I have no experience with either A or B so can’t credibly choose C but I am also not a fan of turkey. My family made it every year at Thanksgiving but when I left home that tradition was also left behind.

S May 29, 2022 at 11:13 AM

some trivia for Simonpure, BUTT (get it?), apologizes if you already know….

Pork BUTT ain’t BUTT, BUTT got its name from being shipped in “BUTT” sized barrels in the olden days….

Very happy to hear you enjoyed your son’s Pitmaster skills….

Cowellian May 29, 2022 at 11:53 AM

I’ll be getting up early tomorrow to smoke a butt. It will be my first smoke of the year.

Cyn May 28, 2022 at 1:39 PM

I’ve been to the Renaissance Faire in Vallejo and they had the best turkey legs, so my pick is “B”. And it was not gross or slimy…just delicious! 🙂

Amy May 28, 2022 at 5:23 PM

I am concerned with the growing tent-city homeless camp on Mt. Diablo Street between Oak Street and Laguna Street in Concord by the Concord Police Station. I counted over 20 tents with lots of garbage strewn around. It is growning every day. Homeless camps are known for fires, crime and the spread of disease. Anyone know who owns this property?

Dr Jellyfinger May 31, 2022 at 8:11 AM

Yep, went and saw Top Gun II.
It was OK…. great photography, jets really flying around… cool.
They stole a whole comedy scene from the Arnold movie “Eraser” and Val Kilmer dies…. otherwise it was pretty good.
Oh! Spoiler alert…. forget what I said about Iceman… Val….JK, he’s fine, a-ok

Katie Tittel June 1, 2022 at 5:22 PM

Hello. Katie of Concord here. I have lived in Concord since I was born and I am curious as to why the newer naval housing (across from Pixie Play Land) is not being utilized as housing for the homeless. I have heard the older housing has a black mold issue so I understand the concern there. It seems to me the base has been shut down for a number of years and is available to be used as emergency housing or lower income housing instead of just sitting there. I am also aware there is a project in the works for 53 lower income units to be built but that is just not enough.

Dr Jellyfinger June 2, 2022 at 5:46 AM

@KT ~ Why Not?

*Because they will trash it & burn it down.

*Because establishing a druggie village of insane people across the street from a children’s amusement park is a bad idea.

*Because the neighbors don’t want it.

*Because it all needs major repairs before it would be livable

*Because it isn’t up to us to pay for it all so that bums, crazies & druggies can live there for free.

* And finally, because if you give a mouse a cookie…..

Katie June 2, 2022 at 9:11 PM

Dr Jelly finger is it? I’m not talking about giving it to them. I’m talking about helping the ones who WANT to be self-sufficient and gain employment and be productive members of society. I’m talking about the ones that need a hand up not want a handout. The ones who just need help getting on their feet. The ones who need help getting clean and on stable mental health medication. And to the comment of “it isn’t up to us to pay for it so all the bums, crazies, and druggies can live there for free”- that IS what we are doing anyway! I guess you have never had a mental health diagnosis OR a drug addiction and have no empathy for the situation. Well let me tell you I have both. And I am clean (23 years now) and on the proper mental health medication and I own a home here in Concord and and gainfully employed now. And I have found if you give them a hand most want to be responsible and take care of where they live they just don’t know where to start.
