Contra Costa Health Officials Say Omicron Has Peaked Countywide

Health officials told the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday they believe the omicron variant of COVID-19 has peaked in the county, as case numbers have started to decline.

“I’m happy to report that we seem to have passed the omicron peak,” said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, the county’s deputy health officer. “Our case rate peaked on Jan. 9, and our hospitalizations peaked at the end of last week, on Jan. 20.

“That said, our hospitals are still very full,” Tzvieli said. “There’s currently 281 COVID patients hospitalized in Contra Costa County, which is up 36 percent from the week before. About half of those cases are there with COVID, but not necessarily because of COVID.”

He said the county expects fewer hospitalizations in the coming weeks, as the average daily number of new cases is now falling.

“The seven-day daily case rate per 100,000 residents of Contra Costa is 183 per 100,000, which is a 30 percent drop from a week ago,” Tzvieli said.

“About half of those cases are there with COVID, but not necessarily because of COVID.”

Wow.

A glimmer of truth.

Well , yes and no….

Thank you for clarifying the difference between “with Covid, but not necessarily because of Covid.” Finally some honesty with reporting from Dr. Tzvieli.

Whatever, reject the mandate.

Cases did not peak, testing peaked. Here are the number of tests per week. The dates are the week-ending day. The county manufactured a surge in cases by greatly increasing testing and are now manufacturing the end of the surge by reducing the testing.

11/20/2021   39,133
11/27/2021   26,233
12/04/2021   43,390
12/11/2021   41,680
12/18/2021   41,581
12/25/2021   41,318
01/01/2022   62,600
01/08/2022  113,033
01/15/2022   96,299
01/22/2022   70,476

You need to look at the positivity rate to see if the surge is ending. As that graph does not supports the county’s narrative they seem to have removed it from their dashboard. They still publish the raw data and so here’s the graph. https://imgur.com/a/a06UF8v

Fred January 26, 2022 - 7:34 AM - 7:34 AM

cases would exist if you test or not. you just wouldn’t know about them, until they show up in the emergency room.

Rbadmedia January 26, 2022 - 8:17 AM - 8:17 AM

Thank you. The county stats are always skewed for their own purposes.

WC Resident January 26, 2022 - 9:48 PM - 9:48 PM

@Fred – My comment was about what Dr. Ori Tzvieli said which was “Our case rate peaked on Jan. 9.” The case rate peaked because testing peaked.

I don’t have a problem with the other part of Dr. Tzvieli’s statement as hospitalizations are a valid metric and they did indeed peak for both CC county and the SF bay area on January 20th.

There is some good news on the positivity rate front which has been holding steady around the 17% mark since December 25th and now seems to be dropping. Here’s the data for the past few days:

Wed 01/19/2022  15.1%
Thu 01/20/2022  14.5%
Fri 01/21/2022  15.7%
Sat 01/22/2022  19.7%
Sun 01/23/2022  17.5%
Mon 01/24/2022  11.6%
Tue 01/25/2022  10.1%

Keep in mind that emergency room visits for Omicron are very rare. There is an estimated 197,166 people with active cases of COVID-19 in the county at the moment. 283 of them are in the hospital and 23 of them are the ICU. Your odds are one out of 697 or 0.14% to end up in the hospital and are one out of 8,572 or 0.01% to end up in the ICU. That’s why heath authorities have not imposed additional restrictions to stop or slow down the spread of Omicron. They want Omicron to burn through the population as rapidly as possible as it’s essentially vaccinating everyone against Omicron and variants very similar to it. Of course it sucks if you are one of the few that end up in the ICU or worse. You can improve your odds by getting vaccinated and then boosted.

@WC Resident My comment was a response to your comment “The county manufactured a surge in cases by greatly increasing testing” my point stands testing does not create cases, only your knowledge of them.

WC Resident January 27, 2022 - 10:48 AM - 10:48 AM

@Fred – LOL, you are right. Testing does not “create” cases, nor does it prevent them. Testing is still useful as it lets you determine the positivity rate which is the measure of how widespread the virus is in the community. More testing generally results in a higher quality answer.

My irritation was that health authorities are putting too much emphasis on the number of cases detected via testing. More testing discovers more cases, less testing discovers fewer cases. In this case, Dr. Tzvieli was touting the drop in number of cases detected while failing to also say that’s because of the exact same drop in the number of tests performed. His finger is on the scale. At one point Donald Trump suggested to stop testing entirely. Zero cases would be discovered, both he and CC County’s Dr. Tzvieli would get to hang up “Mission Accomplished” banners.

Health authorities compound on the mistake of relying on the number of cases detected by computing and reporting on things such as the case rate per 100,000 population and promoting policies such as the indoor mask mandate which has goalposts based on the numbers of cases detected.

AND with Omicron waning, Right on Schedule, Omicron b-a-2 … has been detected on the move, in Washington and multiple places. The Variants will continue for a long time.

What will Fauci spout off next in his arsenal of bs.

@Patriot. Thanks for sharing the video. My sister’s bladder cancer was in remission, after she got the jab the cancer came back.
Forcing the jab on people by threatening their jobs and livelihood should be criminal. Every politician, including the President of the United States, governors, mayors, and heads of health departments, that participated in this madness should be arrested.

So sorry to hear what it did to your sister.

Patriot’s attached video link is FANTASTIC PROOF that many vaxxed people are in for some really sad/bad consequences in the not-to-distant future. An ABSOLUTE MUST WATCH 18 minute video.
Thank you, Patriot, for sharing this one! And everyone here should watch it and share it with their contacts as well. I hope you all have the guts and intelligence to watch it. It may Rock Your World.

Well with the mid-term elections happening if Nov it’s time a certain party starts winding this down…until Dec that is.

This doesnt include the people who are testing positive at home. Because they are telling us if you are positive stay home. I know more people who have just got hit this week.

They love to play with the numbers.

Bruh January 26, 2022 - 9:17 AM - 9:17 AM

Imagine doubling the population and never building more hospitals.

Y’all central planners suck at central planning. We wouldn’t have full hospitals if ya built hospitals to keep up with the massive population increase..but that would take doing actual work and y’all just sit on your ass in zoom meetings and collect a paycheck.

JG27AD January 26, 2022 - 9:47 AM - 9:47 AM

Bruh, agree with the doubling of population comment. Note that it also applies to water storage, highway, rail and power generation as well.
As to hospitals, they are like motels. They need beds to be as full as possible or they go out of business. So when we see politicians with their hair on fire about full hospitals it is important to remember that they need to be that way.

And no mention of rolling back damaging restrictions – on kids in school, for example. When cases go up, restrictions do too. When cases go down … well, of course we still have to stay cautious and vigilant!

Meanwhile we continue the experiment of masking young children – for no benefit (or, arguably, a very very slight benefit that’s been almost impossible to measure in real world studies). Pretty much no other country is doing this. No expert planning documents contemplated it pre-Covid. And plenty of data exists now to show that it has either no benefit or very slight benefit.

CoCo parents: send this to your school administrators and county supervisors: https://www.urgencyofnormal.com/

It’s a toolkit put together by a bunch of doctors – mainstream, qualified people in infectious disease and pediatrics. Concisely makes the case that restrictions on kids are causing a lot of harm and providing very little, if any, benefit to those kids OR to the community.

I’m really glad I moved out of the county with my family. What a trainwreck.

The only thing that has peaked is the cluelessness of the public with this scamdemic.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain pulling all the strings with this scamdemic.

The government, CDC, politicians & local bs’ers. Can’t trust any statements coming out of their mouths.
