First?!

S December 3, 2021 at 7:02 PM

Pick One:

A) Cannoli
B) Tiramisu
C) Yuck

Jeff (the other one) December 3, 2021 at 8:03 PM

A), not a fan of B, at all.

nytemuvr December 3, 2021 at 10:23 PM

Between the two I’d go with “A”. Hands down, I’ll take a custard filled maple bar from Chick’s before either of those choices.

Antler December 4, 2021 at 12:11 AM

A….. but a double scoop of genuine Italian gelato sometimes seems even better.

Dawg December 4, 2021 at 1:46 AM

C) Yuck. My mother’s side of the family are Sicilian, and all the women in the family are wonderful cooks. I grew up on Italian style cooking and love it, but I’ve never acquired a taste for Italian desserts.

Roz December 4, 2021 at 5:13 AM

A!
With my aunt & cousins, before covid, we would make the shells a week before Thanksgiving. Then stuff them with ricotta Thanksgiving Day. In fact, I made homemade ricotta, the last time. It was easy and so good!

Justifiable languor December 4, 2021 at 9:09 AM

I agree with nytemuvr, I’d rather have a maple bar. I’ve tried a Cannoli decades ago, I remember liking it well enough. Haven’t tried Tiramisu, yet.

Cowellian December 4, 2021 at 9:43 AM

I’m not a huge fan of cannoli, but tiramisu is OK. I really like nytemuvr’s custard-filled maple bar idea.

Kentucky Derby December 4, 2021 at 10:35 AM

D. Never tried either one. I like Italian food, but I’ve had Italians tell me that with the exception of gelato (which I like) Italian deserts aren’t any good. I’ll take their word for it.

S December 4, 2021 at 10:45 AM

“A” for me.

“B” is ok, but would rather “A”….

Silva December 5, 2021 at 5:34 PM

I’ve never had A, I don’t remember trying B more than once and it didn’t impress at all, maybe the TJ’s version wasn’t the best example though. Often their products seem true to the originals as far as capturing essences goes. It wasn’t bad, but I did not get the hype. I’m with Antler on this, but I suppose we need to travel to Walnut Creek or some other exotic locale for a gelato.. I haven’t had a gelato since I left Oakland. I’m unfamiliar with C.

hanne jeppesen December 6, 2021 at 1:12 PM

Both A and B. Years ago when I lived in New York, the part of New York that is known as Little Italy, had a place that had the best Cannoli’s I think it was only a bakery, I remember going to dinner with my date (later husband now ex) at a place and then stop there for the Cannoli’s. I had Iiramisu at different places, some store bought (Raley’s) and have also made it myself.

Rolaids December 3, 2021 at 7:37 PM

Anybody know what that huge building being built is below the Chevron/Taco Bell etc at Willow Pass, Evora? It looks like it will have an incredible view of the golf course, Carquinez Straight.

No Excuses December 4, 2021 at 2:03 AM

You might find this interactive from Concord interesting:
https://concordgis.ci.concord.ca.us/DevViewer/
No mention of currently planned building near Taco Bell… So…
I took a look, Rolaids. I think that might be Bay Point property. City lines right there get kind of zig-zag. I noticed PG&E has some increased, heavy duty, Security guard shack and gates on their compression station on top the hill there.
May need to look into Bay Point permits.

Rolaids December 4, 2021 at 8:08 PM

Well, thanks for trying, @No Excuses. Strange, that building is ginormous, and it’s clearly not just a warehouse, and it’s clearly not just commercial office space. If someone’s building a second Jelly Belly factory or a Soylent Green intake station, I would of thought there would be some chatter about it. ICE Detention Facility?

Roz December 5, 2021 at 6:32 AM
Drivesatruck December 5, 2021 at 1:18 PM

Rolaids, herd it is Seeno’s private museum

Rolaids December 5, 2021 at 7:38 PM

@Roz. No, I’ve seen the firehouse construction site. That’s over the hill in Bay Point. The one I’m talking about is overlooking Concord, and is the size of ten fire stations.

No Excuses December 8, 2021 at 3:32 AM

Here ya go Rolaids: https://www.contracosta.ca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/69975/LP16-2031-Panatonni-March-2021-MND-NOI-030221

I’m thinking this must be it.

Claycord’s story on Mitchoff triggered my memory… Unincorporated County land!!! The giant eyesore will indeed be a warehouse of almost 100,000sqft and equivalent of about 3 stories high. On PRIME VIEW property with extra room to grow in the future. Like what was needed right there near BART and NEW CONCORD… warehouse space! Right?

Count your blessings… They wanted to build one that was over 200,000 sq ft… (But our County Supervisors are looking out for us…LMDAO)

No Excuses December 8, 2021 at 4:08 AM

Does it look something like this, Rolaids? https://images1.loopnet.com/d2/YAgYGOBgKH3rngzzhBg1hHZ0CgaqfB7FrmrRvV8pbxk/ConcordLogisticsCenterFlyer.pdf
Maybe the County did go ahead and approve the 225,000+sq ft proposal… Loopnet/Concord is trying to rent out space that will not be completed until 2024…hmmmm? Very Interesting. And yeah… no chance of graft and hand in pocket between Concord, CCCo and Cushman-Wakefield 😉

Panattoni Development. The company develops, leases, and manages industrial, office, and retail properties in the US, Canada, and Europe, with an emphasis on corporate centers, business parks, and shopping centers. One of the top firms in the industrial build-to-suit market, it averages more than 12 million sq. ft. of development annually. Major projects include overseeing the development of the new headquarters building for CalSTRS, which was completed in 2009. In addition to development and property management, the firm offers construction, financing, and asset management services. CEO Carl Panattoni founded Panattoni Development Company in 1986

Jeff (the other one) December 3, 2021 at 8:07 PM

Thanks to all who have decorated their homes with Christmas lights (have not seen Hanukah decorations yet), the warm glow of non-LED lights, and the brightness and vibrancy of LED lights make the neighborhoods look so festive. Will continue to drive around to look….and smile!

Concernicus December 3, 2021 at 8:33 PM

I HAD NO IDEA THAT THERE’D BE 2 TEAMS OF CARRIAGE HORSES THIS YEAR!
I went out to greet the usual team (Not the usual team, youngster horses who were very well trained), and saw a beautiful pair of black horses behind them!!
Gorgeous horses, but as a Concord native, I was leery about saying hi to the driver/horses…. I hope they come back next year, I will make a point to say hi to them then!

Dawg December 4, 2021 at 2:01 AM

A woman on a Delta Air Lines flight was breastfeeding her cat. Well, my understanding is that in the world of wokism, if the woman identifies as a cat, or if the cat identifies as a baby human, it should be perfectly acceptable, and is discriminatory to make a fuss over it.

Bill December 4, 2021 at 9:33 AM

Any ideas for a Chinese or BBQ restaurant in Concord? Thanks in advance.

S December 4, 2021 at 10:44 AM

Sadly Bill…

There are no real Q Joints or good Q Joints around Concord…

Worth the drive are KC’s in Berkeley and JR’s in Sacramento…

🙂

Dr Jellyfinger December 4, 2021 at 10:59 AM

In Concord? BBQ? I’d probably make the short drive to Pleasant Hill & go to Back Forty or to WC and go to Sauced.

Chinese? Panda’s OK, nice & clean too.
You might try Hunan on Clayton Rd.

I’ve never eaten there but they’ve been open for so long, it must be pretty good. I just don’t go to Chinese restaurants because years ago I used to service commercial appliances and most Chinese kitchens in this county were always filthy.

Dr Jellyfinger December 4, 2021 at 11:32 AM

I haven’t been there yet but I’ve been meaning to check out this place in Lafayette that I drive past every week. Looks good.

Cowellian December 4, 2021 at 11:45 AM

OK, Jelly, I gotta ask. Exactly what kind of servicing does your kind of doctor provide?

Cowellian December 4, 2021 at 11:47 AM

I’d be willing to swap one good pit barbecue joint for a decent Mexican restaurant.

Dr Jellyfinger December 4, 2021 at 1:34 PM

Sorry, I can’t divulge details that might reveal my true identity.
If the progressive, woken snoots I work for knew how un-politically correct I really am they’d go batsh*t crazy until they constructively dismissed my butt!

Randy December 4, 2021 at 2:41 PM

..imho no decent BBQ but 3 Brothers from China for Chinese (PH)

Bad Nombre December 4, 2021 at 4:07 PM

3 Bros has the absolute best hot & sour soup!

Gittyup December 4, 2021 at 11:43 PM

I’ve heard very good things about Boneheads in Lafayette. An excellent smoked brisket, so they say..

Lovelace December 6, 2021 at 6:22 AM

I have tried boneheads.
I give it a 7.5 out of 10. (A little inconsistent but when it’s good it is really good) Definitely worth a try

Better than back 40. I give them a 6.5.. (not smokey enough for me.).

My dad served aboard the USS Nashville. On Dec 13, 1944 the Nashville was heavily struck by Kamikaze aircraft. 133 sailors were killed and 190 were wounded. Luckily, my dad survived without a scratch, and the ship was able to sail into Seattle for repairs. Prior to the Kamikaze attack, the ship had a couple of other close calls that resulted in slight damage. The crew of the USS Nashville became known as the Humble Heroes. A lot of stories can be found on Google, under Humble Heroes.

Where is the report for how many fools in Contra Costa County have been vaccinated? Do they not want us to see that the foolishness of checking vax cards at dining establishments is no longer needed because we’ve met their demands? What’s next?

The Wizard December 5, 2021 at 8:34 AM

Got a notice from CCWD saying they want to increase their rates. One of the reasons was replacing ageing water pipes. With this infrastructure bill passed by the feds to address the same problem, will they reverse their decision ?

Glen223 December 6, 2021 at 8:16 PM

Of course not.

Rich December 5, 2021 at 11:44 AM

Bomb squad near Wilson this am?

Silva December 5, 2021 at 5:29 PM

Again?

Dr Jellyfinger December 10, 2021 at 7:04 AM

Probably a Christmas Party…. everybody gets bombed.

SF oh December 5, 2021 at 4:54 PM

“Woke” shopping is exhausting. I looked at Target online to get some ideas for the grandkids for Christmas. I clicked on”All Toy Deals” and was offered 4,215 results. Seemed rather time consuming to go through that many choices so I started filtering. I was able to filter by age, brand, character, etc,… everything but gender. Sorry Target but my boys are boys and my girls are girls. I’m not going to get Barbie’s Beach Volleyball set for my grandson. Or Lego Armored Marauder for the girls. I’ve also noticed at Walmart and H & M kids clothes are not separated by gender either. If you’re looking for a particular item it takes forever to go through several racks to find it. Could we just leave the kids alone and keep them out of this woke political crap.

Torcofuel December 6, 2021 at 7:37 AM

High 5 on these comments! Woke sucks and anything woke turns to crap.
Woke needs to go back to sleep.

Doen anyone know of a gardener, not a landscaper? I am looking for someone to mow, weed eat the edges, blow and cleanup their clippings. I had a wonderful person for years, but has retired and referred me to a completely unreliable person. Any help would be appreciated.

Carole Putnam December 6, 2021 at 1:01 PM

@Juno Mario Nunez of Rosenna Landscaping has been very reliable and does a great job doing regular lawn and yard care like you are describing. He can do other landscaping jobs, trimming, etc., also, if necessary. He got my yard into great shape quickly. You can call and he’ll come by and give you a price for your work. 925-354-5280. I recommend him highly.

Dr Jellyfinger December 6, 2021 at 7:58 PM

A couple were in a busy shopping center just before Christmas.
The wife suddenly noticed that her husband was missing and as they had a lot to do, so she called him on the cellphone..
The wife said ” Where are you, you know we have lots to do.”
He said “You remember the jewelers we went into about 10 years ago, and you fell in love with that diamond necklace? I could not afford it at the time and I said that one day I would get it for you?”
Little tears started to flow down her cheek and she got all
choked up…
“Yes, I do remember that shop.” she replied.
“Well I am in the gun shop next door to that.”

Antler December 6, 2021 at 11:58 PM

Used to be nice the way my husband and I could leave Hogan’s and Jewelsmith’s was only a few blocks away on the same side of the street!

I’m sure I’m nt the only one to notice the price of everything is skyrocketing. I’ve seen my water bill, PG&E bill, state taxes like DMV renewel and car insurance go up as well as other fees. I just bought a 15 year old SUV for a fair price and received the DMV renewal for $231. These fees are rediculous and I hope the new politicians work for the people and do something about it. The sewer rates now have gone up every year for several years but very little infrastructure upgrades have been done.Where the hell is all this money going? The public is being robbed by rich CEO’s and people in charge making very fat salaries.

Dr Jellyfinger December 9, 2021 at 11:01 PM

Daughter: Dad, I have a flat tire!
Dad: Can’t you call your husband?
Daughter: I did, but he didn’t answer
Dad: Do you have a spare?
Daughter: Yeah… but he didn’t answer either!
