Three People Charged With Felonies For Ransacking Of Nordstrom Last Weekend

Three people have been charged with multiple felonies related to the ransacking of a Nordstrom department store in Walnut Creek last weekend, Contra Costa County prosecutors said Wednesday.

About 90 people in all allegedly stormed the store on Saturday night armed with weapons, making off with more than $100,000 worth of merchandise while about 25 cars with missing or covered license plates were strategically parked in front of the business to block first responders, police and prosecutors said.

The three people arrested and charged so far have been identified as Dana Dawson, 30, Joshua Underwood, 32, and Rodney Robinson, 19, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The trio is set to be arraigned next Monday afternoon on charges including robbery, burglary, organized retail theft, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property, prosecutors said.

According to a complaint filed by the District Attorney’s Office for the charges, Nordstrom employees were pepper-sprayed, kicked, punched and assaulted with a knife during the thefts.

The Nordstrom robbery is one of several recent major thefts around the Bay Area recently, with others occurring in downtown San Francisco, in San Jose and elsewhere. In response, district attorneys in Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, Marin, Santa Clara and San Joaquin counties announced this week they are collaborating to share crime data and each office has pledged a prosecutor to participate in the joint effort.

“We are committed to stopping those who participate in organized retail theft, which has adverse and costly impacts on business owners and consumers as well,” Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton said in a statement announcing the charges in the Nordstrom case.

Authorities are still seeking more suspects in Saturday’s thefts. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Deng at deng@walnutcreekpd.com.

Lmao. They only got 3 of them or 4% (rounding up) of the 80 or so people that looted in Walnut Creek. They get 4% of the criminals and make a huge announcement trumping it up like it’s going to make everything better.

With those type of numbers they’re not going to be stopping anything. A criminal is already taking a risk by stealing stuff, if they have only a 4% chance of getting caught there’s a lot of them that would take that risk since they’re already ya know, risk takers.

I guess in the public sector 4% is considered “stopping retail theft”

Meezy November 25, 2021 - 12:47 PM - 12:47 PM

They’ll rely on those 3 giving up others for a plea deal…

anon November 24, 2021 - 4:47 PM - 4:47 PM

Talk is cheap! Let’s see how much time is spent behind bars if any.

DD November 25, 2021 - 7:30 AM - 7:30 AM

+1
Also curious how much time they’ve already spent behind bars and why they’re not still there.

Lesson learned here: you don’t have to be the fastest Zebra in the jungle. Just faster than the slowest.

Dr Jellyfinger November 24, 2021 - 6:53 PM - 6:53 PM

Out of all the other lowlife losers, these 3 were the only ones to get caught!
LOL! The born losers of the looting clan… the most pathetic of the bottom feeders….LOL!

Tim November 24, 2021 - 7:41 PM - 7:41 PM

Would be great if their trial was televised like the others in the news.

WC Resident November 24, 2021 - 8:55 PM - 8:55 PM

There will be no trial as it’s likely District Attorney Diana Becton will drop the charges in the interest of justice.

Their was a song in the past by the artist Meatloaf with the lyrics (2 out of 3) ain’t bad, but 3 out of 80 I have no adjectives for…I guess we are living in different times…God help us all…

Concord74 November 24, 2021 - 9:14 PM - 9:14 PM

Becton is beating her chest to show how inept she really is!!! If anyone is threatened with a knife or is struck with it, does jt not constitute ADW ?? I would like to know how that would be addressed by Marvelous Becton? Chesa Boudin is another loser for SF!!
Televising the trial or sentencing may embolden others to get National notoriety!

Chris November 24, 2021 - 10:16 PM - 10:16 PM

Diane has already given them bail. No trial and a plea bargain because they are part of the “protected” class. I’ll bet they serve only 90 days then probation. Thanks Diane-you lazy woke fool.

caskydiver November 24, 2021 - 10:50 PM - 10:50 PM

they can have all the commissions, task forces, committees, or whatever they come up with to discuss this issue, but nothing will show results as good as consistently and timely prosecuting to the full extent of the law.

Fed up November 25, 2021 - 6:09 AM - 6:09 AM

I want my state back .

chuckie the troll November 25, 2021 - 6:57 AM - 6:57 AM

So first they create all of the conditions necessary to make rioting, looting, arson and violence possible. Then they blame law abiding people for the lawlessness. Then they pretend that they are not to blame. And now they are pretending to care and will do something to stop these domestic terrorists?

Save these pronouncements for April 1st!

jose November 25, 2021 - 7:32 AM - 7:32 AM

What I suspect happened here with only a few ‘suspects’ captured on a Saturday night is that LE was told to stand down and let it happen.
Usually on Saturday nights in most towns, the Law Enforcement is ‘beefed up’ to catch all the party crowds that frequent all the bars, night clubs.

Ano November 25, 2021 - 8:40 AM - 8:40 AM

They should be charged with domestic terrorism. Federal and state charges.

Jeff November 25, 2021 - 9:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Here’s some news for you, one of the three, Joshua Underwood is no longer in custody and bail for the other two has been reduced.

This is only window dressing by the Bay Area DA’s who know they have not done their jobs.

DA’s will let them off as will Newsome. Dems need the low lifelife -illegal votes to stay in office and continue their long term benefits at the expense of those of us who do obey the law and overpay into the system to support liberal and socialists taxation without representation.

Snappy97 November 25, 2021 - 9:02 AM - 9:02 AM

Diane needs to resign- she’s not tough on crime. Her priority to adjust the system is creating more petty theft because there is no consequence. Any truth to her accepting money from George Soros?

Sam November 26, 2021 - 3:44 AM - 3:44 AM

She is connected to soros. It was covered when she was running and info is out there. What does it matter? Democrats love soros. You will never convince them this is a negative. Soros, gates, schwab…these are the heroes of the world to democrats. Fox news even covers for them.

Cellophane November 25, 2021 - 9:39 AM - 9:39 AM

Wouldn’t surprise me if those 3 are back on the street in the afternoon.

Then forgotten about.

Jeff November 26, 2021 - 7:55 AM - 7:55 AM

Update……….only Mr. Robinson is still in custody, two are out and enjoying time with their loving families, kissing their babies and pushing forward in their rap careers.
