CA Attorney General Joins Lawsuit Against “Ghost Gun” Manufacturers

California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Wednesday announced he’s joining a civil lawsuit filed by San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin against three manufacturers of ghost guns — untraceable guns that can easily be purchased online.

Boudin first filed the suit against defendants Blackhawk Manufacturing Group Inc., GS Performance LLC, and MDX Corporation back in August, alleging that the companies’ business practices violate state laws that prohibit fraudulent business practices and false advertising.

The suit further alleges the three companies are in violation of the federal Gun Control Act, as well as the state’s Firearms Law, which require background checks during firearm sales.

According to Bonta, once the kits are purchased, they can be assembled in as little as 15 minutes.

I’m curious how many “ghost guns” have been used in crimes. Is the recent “ghost gun” crackdown a response to an actual problem, or feel-good legislation to ban something that just sounds evil.

People have been making their own firearms since the beginning of time. Now that the left has figured that out, they have to make up a catchy name for them and cry about how nobody should be allowed to own them.

dude1 October 13, 2021 - 6:15 PM - 6:15 PM

Funny that the DA in SF starts a lawsuit for ghost guns when his parents were murderers of police officers and he was raised by members of the weather underground who where essentially domestics terrorists and his grandfather was a Marxist.. He wants to stop the sale of “ghost guns” which sounds really scary until you do the research…It’s the first step in taking away all of the weapons…why would I let a communist/Marxist anywhere near the 2nd amendment? What a joke!

Sam October 13, 2021 - 7:44 PM - 7:44 PM

Because it’s san fransicko. Nothing but fruits and nuts in san fransicko. 🤣🤣 An oldie but as true now as ever.

But seriously, NOTHING good comes out of that disgusting city. Everyone has the right to own any armament they can afford. All this trying to disarm Americans is not of this country. It’s globalists elites that want you unable to defend yourselves. Anarcho-tyranny is your new government structure. This is why murderers get off and they want your guns. Managerial state is what it’s technically called. Same thin that happened to ex Soviet states when the USSR broke up in 1991. Romania, Moldova, Ukraine…Its all corruption.

Let’s go Brandon!

Amy October 13, 2021 - 10:52 PM - 10:52 PM

These people are Communists.

Rolaids October 14, 2021 - 11:49 AM - 11:49 AM

@dude1. Good catch on Chesa Boudin’s background. Thank you, I was not aware.

CouldBeWrongBut... October 13, 2021 - 6:19 PM - 6:19 PM

I could be wrong but, I’m fairly certain that selling a kit is not illegal.
It’s illegal to sell a manufactured arm if you’re not a licensed seller.
It’s up to the owner to build and register it with a SN (which isn’t required either) but the state looks down on such things.

Schmee October 13, 2021 - 6:28 PM - 6:28 PM

Yea my friends have kits. A guy was even selling them out in the open at the flea market as “AR-15 80% kits.” From what I understand it just takes a little bit of milling

CouldBeWrongBut... October 13, 2021 - 6:40 PM - 6:40 PM

I’ve never seen anyone out in the open selling kits, but I can confirm purchasing an 80% lower is no a fire arm, you do have to mill it, and you also have to purchase all the other required parts and pieces to build a gun.

Glen223 October 13, 2021 - 7:38 PM - 7:38 PM

It takes a lot more than “15 minutes” for the milling of an 80 percent frame/receiver.

AR15 – maybe 8 hours if you have e the right parts and milling equipment… a couple of hours for an 80% Glock if V you have all the parts and equipment – down to a fully functional firearm.

And no, it’s not illegal to manufacture them – as long as you’re not selling it or otherwise prohibited from owning it. And you still have to apply for a serial number from the DOJ.

Lying democrats…

Glen223 October 14, 2021 - 7:50 AM - 7:50 AM

And I hear that they’re considering identifying parts as firearms – such as firing pins, springs and other common pieces of hardware – even to the level of a block of metal that would require milling of the entire block ….. like a 5% firearm.

Now how are you gonna put a serial number on a spring? Can you imagine the database required to track that? Can you imagine the background checks that’ll be needed just for basic maintenance? Sounds like a major jobs creation for the DOJ etc with nothing in return.

jjshawk October 16, 2021 - 12:16 AM - 12:16 AM

…….and those parts will cost, all together (not including tools necessary for the build), at least $600.

Original G October 13, 2021 - 7:50 PM - 7:50 PM

Looks good on political resume and gets potential future campaign contributors to notice them. Don’t be surprised when Bonta goes after higher elective office.

Ben October 13, 2021 - 8:49 PM - 8:49 PM

With the price of cnc machines these day. Open source Cad programs and a book from the library . Anyone with a little time can be come there own manufacture. If you realy want to ban something dangerous. Ban bleach and Amonia.

Ricardoh October 13, 2021 - 8:56 PM - 8:56 PM

The gun manufacturers are not killing people. Murderers are killing people. Arrest them and put them in jail and stop defunding the police. Why can’t they admit the truth.

Ricardoh October 13, 2021 - 9:06 PM - 9:06 PM

A Dane in Sweden just killed five with a bow and arrow.

Greg October 14, 2021 - 5:08 AM - 5:08 AM

@Ricardoh I bet the families of the Vegas shooter wish he had a bow and arrow instead.

Ricardoh October 14, 2021 - 8:48 AM - 8:48 AM

Greg
I bet they do wish he used a bow and arrow. If the state or the feds want to go after ghost gun parts makers, great. However they are missing the point. It will not stop the slaughter going on in our cities. They know how to stop the killings but they are too politically correct to do it. So once again the government is wasting time and money and many innocent will die. Children are getting killed. The more liberal the country gets the worse things will be.

Bad Nombre October 13, 2021 - 11:35 PM - 11:35 PM

Anyone got a Bonta “15 minute” milling machine they want to part with for less than the cost of a new rifle? That’d be sweet!

Kauai Mike October 14, 2021 - 4:59 AM - 4:59 AM

Self-reliance is the enemy of the nanny state!

From collecting rainwater to attending to your self defense, lefty bureaucrats can’t have that!

All government is theft.

greg October 14, 2021 - 1:33 PM - 1:33 PM

But you’re not self-reliant. You know at any moment you can call 911, you can have the government protect you, put out fires for you, feed you, etc ,etc.

It’s super easy being a tough rugged libertarian when you have the cheat codes if it doesn’t work out.

Kauai Mike October 14, 2021 - 5:37 PM - 5:37 PM

some of us are not ‘ants in the afterbirth’ … ‘useless eaters’ as Kissinger described them.

Glen223 October 15, 2021 - 9:27 PM - 9:27 PM

Greg – depending on where you are, calling 911 may get someone there in 5 minutes (very rare) or in under an hour.

When seconds count, 1200 FPS beats 100 mph.

Nothing against the police – it’s just they’re spread too thin and they have too large of a beat to cover to respond in short times.

And that’s based on decades in the profession.

When the shtf, you’ll be on your own. And that’s a fact. And that’s not “if”, but when.

Greg October 14, 2021 - 5:09 AM - 5:09 AM

It’s always funny to me reading “law abiding gun owners” promising to break any laws they don’t like.

Glen223 October 14, 2021 - 7:52 AM - 7:52 AM

Greg – ever hear of the Second Amendment?

Especially the part that says “shall not be infringed?”

A simple yes or no will suffice.

Chicken Little October 14, 2021 - 8:41 AM - 8:41 AM

Glad you’re amused. American citizens have not only a right, but a duty to ignore unconstitutional laws.

Didja Notice? October 14, 2021 - 12:19 PM - 12:19 PM

Unlike the imaginary right to free healthcare, housing, abortion, or even not being offended, the right to bear arms is explicit in the constitution.

jjshawk October 16, 2021 - 2:02 AM - 2:02 AM

Well,..”law abiding gun owners” don’t:
Shoot anyone because they had a bad day at the office.
Shoot somebody over negative social media posts.
Commit crimes that harm another person(s).
The list could go on and on……..

Many “law abiding gun owners” don’t think its anyone’s business what kind of gun they own, as long as it’s not a machine gun or grenade launcher.

By the way, is it no accident that the 2nd Amendment is the only one of the amendments in our, US Constitution that states, unequivocally, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”? Unfortunately, there’s one side of the isle that keeps moving the goal posts, patiently chipping away at the stone, hoping one day, there will be nothing left.

Obamavirus October 14, 2021 - 7:29 AM - 7:29 AM

The Marxists first priority is always to use government power to go after their political enemies
Second priority is to get as much wealth out of it as they possibly can through corrupt self-dealing
Third priority is to tilt the system and institutionalize their corrupt practices and to fill the bureaucracy with ideologues like the Obama judges and woke generals
We are now seeing this in action in real time
Where is Kamala?
My guess is she is out with her hubby trying to become as rich as Pelosi
Biden is a demented and corrupt POS who thinks he is Tony Soprano
BTW a great website for conservatives is amgreatness.com and currently there are several articles about how election fraud is the number one issue to come to terms with before 2022

Bill Cutting October 14, 2021 - 8:21 AM - 8:21 AM

Greg what part about shall not be infringed do you not understand? I guess you just interpret words differently just like your ilk usually does.

Sam Malone October 14, 2021 - 8:34 AM - 8:34 AM

So how about stopping the criminals as this only restricts the law abiding citizens from protecting ourselves against the criminals who face no punishment in the Sorso-Becton-Newsom-Biden era.

chuckie the troll October 14, 2021 - 11:57 AM - 11:57 AM

Why not just prosecute people committing gun crimes to the maximum extent possible? Keep them off the street so there won’t be a market for these guns.

greg October 14, 2021 - 1:23 PM - 1:23 PM

@Chicken little: it’s neither your right nor your duty to determine what is and is not unconstitutional. That’s what courts are for.

I mean, unless you want a country in which each individual lives by their own interpretation of the constitution. Sounds like anarchy to me.

Sam October 15, 2021 - 3:46 AM - 3:46 AM

BOOM! There it is ladies and gentlemen, the age old leftist argument that the constitution, written in black and white needs an interpretation. No greg that’s not what the courts are for. The right to bare are shall not be infringed is as clear as can be greg. ANY INFRINGEMENT is un-constitutional. Period.

The constitution has been a thorn in the side of potential tyrants for 200 years. Nothing has changed. You really think the courts are there to decide what is or is not constitutional? You’re lost greg. This is America.

greg October 14, 2021 - 1:37 PM - 1:37 PM

@Ricardoh this is an old argument that doesn’t hold up. Political correctness is not responsible for all the gun violence in the country. The easy access to guns is the largest reason. As long as we have individual states with varying versions of gun laws, it’s a system designed with holes left and right.

We need a uniformed fed standard. VAst majority of the population and gun owners agree with that.

(I will be completely transparent and tell you I think all guns should be banned save for LEO’s. Of course this will never happen ever, so I don’t even bother daydreaming about it.)

To Do List October 14, 2021 - 4:51 PM - 4:51 PM

greg, The reason you provide does not support your conclusions. Until 1968 there weren’t even age restrictions on purchasing guns, and in the post WWII era there were many former soldiers that encouraged gun ownership. But according to government statistics, the vast majority of what’s called mass shootings are in the 2000s when it is more difficult to get guns. Therefore, your reason does not stand up to the history. I believe the culture changed. Some of this is due to how political correctness teaches people that they should be divided up and hypersensitive to situations of race and class, made to feel like angry victims who are not personally responsible for their actions..

anon October 14, 2021 - 6:11 PM - 6:11 PM

Why do you not believe in the second amendment? Is it not a check against tyranny? Is it not a way to better guarantee the safety of one’s family against harm? The police get overwhelmed in a simple riot-type situation and will not be able to help you. During the LA Riots the police literally told people they were on their own, and hung up the phones.

Doh October 14, 2021 - 11:42 PM - 11:42 PM

The gun laws are so full of holes anyone can get almost any kind of gun they want. The ghost guns make it impossible to trace a gun.

The first four words of the 2nd Amendment means guns are not for everyone. “A well regulated militia” according to Alexander Hamilton means akin to the National Guard.

Pepe October 15, 2021 - 8:49 AM - 8:49 AM

Doh ,You can’t have a well regulated militia without the private ownership of guns . the national guard is controlled by the government . The 2nd amendment was put there to protect us from a tyrannical government . Liberial democrats are responsible for putting millions of guns and ammunition on the streets .They don’t want to keep violent felons in prison . They keep paroling them over and over . Then they are always trying to pass new gun control laws and bans which make people afraid of increasing violence and they are afraid for their family so they buy a gun to protect them .

greg October 15, 2021 - 9:01 AM - 9:01 AM

“BOOM! There it is ladies and gentlemen, the age old leftist argument that the constitution, written in black and white needs an interpretation. No greg that’s not what the courts are for. THe courts are absolutely there to adjudicate constitutionality. Of course it’s open to interpretation, Sam. Otherwise you’d be relegated to muskets as 2A makes no mention of what type of arms you can use, and whether or not you can access ammunition for those arms. Those latter questions have been adjudicated in court, which is why you are currently allowed what you’re allowed.

If your argument is that only *your* interpretation must be accepted as law regardless of what a court would decide, that’s anarchy. That’s not what our constitution states, nor was it the intent of the founders to allow individuals to arbitrarily make up their own laws.

You don’t know the constitution, you just like using the word in online arguments.

To Do List October 15, 2021 - 9:25 AM - 9:25 AM

greg: Please do an explainer on why so many important Supreme Court decisions are 5 to 4 or 4 to 5, thus making them just reflect the politics of whoever was the last president who nominated one or more of them.

Sam October 15, 2021 - 3:13 PM - 3:13 PM

“shall not be infringed”

“arms”

2+2=4

What exactly is there to interpret? Muskets? What do muskets have to do with anything? Is that you trying hard to mis-interpret? Everyone understands what it says and means except lunatics who lie.

Do you also think it’s guilty until proven innocent?

You lefties are a strange bunch.

Let’s Go Brandon!!

greg October 15, 2021 - 12:53 PM - 12:53 PM

@To Do why don’t you share your data as you have declared “so many” (which isn’t a number, just a vague reference) have been decided by near split. And further, you’ve decided their decisions are purely politically motivated.

why don’t you explain who adjudicates these things if not the SC? Are you saying we should ignore all of their rulings that allow people to own firearms? Cause I’d totally be into that. 😉

Sam October 15, 2021 - 4:02 PM - 4:02 PM

Isn’t that interesting. Greg’s not interested in following the law of the land (The Constitution) but he is happy to treat like the word of God himself a rulings by some random 9 people.

Look dude, the social contract in America is based on freedom and the Constitution. Those of you who think you’re gonna break that social contract without a major confrontation are delusional. The world is on the edge of total breakdown because of masks and social media censorship around the COVID HOAX. The medical misinformation coming out of this government is becoming clear to the masses. You don’t get to fake a pandemic and our rights disappear like magic. You’re on the wrong side of history. 💯

To Do List October 15, 2021 - 4:48 PM - 4:48 PM

The latest abortion ruling about Texas, Bush vs. Gore, Citizens United, to name a few. A Google search with obvious keywords on close decisions comes up with over two million sites discussing it so you did not try much. The principle of politics motivating the decisions still holds even if its 6 to 3 and such. In a different place and time with a different history of which elected party was in control of the presidency you would have a different opinion from the court on what is “constitutional.” . And it is, an opinion. Just because they can call up government resources like the police to enforce it does not mean it is necessarily a better opinion than you or the minority on the court believed.
