Time we got back to basics and quit spoiling kids. Homemade presents are great.

@Mutts….I had a granduncle that used to say….”We didn’t have money to buy “play-prettys”(toys) at Christmas time so my folks gave me a new pair of overalls with a hole cut in the pocket.” I didn’t understand his joke until I was older. Uncle Herman was a hoot!

And Joe Biden turned his back on reporters today when they tried to ask him questions about this!
A President who can’t answer questions!

You can open the ports up for 30 hours a day- if you don’t have the workers nothing will change. This administration is just now realizing we have a back log. What a bunch of clowns.

@Lost Pride. I don’t know about the anything about the ships, but as far as the truckers go it is my view that the shift scheduling disfunction long predates the pandemic. In the early 2000’s I worked a lot at the Port of Oakland. Every day, the whole port would shut down for lunch. This caused the trucks to back up all over 7th St, Middle Harbor, and Maritime. And every day it took a few hours to free up the traffic jam of big rigs. Apparently the longshoremen couldn’t see their way to staggering their break times and maintaining an even work flow. The poor truckers, who any more are almost all non-union and paid by the load, are S.O.L. They just had to eat a few hours of idle time while they waited for the Union workers inside. This is an extreme example, but it would be like shutting down the Bay Bridge because all the toll takers have to go on break at the same time. Or the entire BART system going down for lunch. Not a great example of solidarity with the “working man” AND WOMEN that make a fraction of what the longshoremen make, and have to lose a few hours on each load. Not excusing it, but I understand why so many of them drive like maniacs when they finally get out of the port.

To Do List October 13, 2021 at 8:59 PM

KPIX chose to interview an attractive shopkeeper getting craft items from India. Why didn’t they interview Walmart having trouble stocking its “Polly Pocket Pollyville Mega Mall Playset” Chinese plastic garbage that will end up in our landfills a couple of years from now.

Anonymous October 14, 2021 at 9:40 AM

KPIX is based in SF. There are no Walmarts in SF. In fact, on the peninsula, the closest Walmart is in Mountain View. There are no Sam’s Clubs either. There are a couple of Costcos.

It seems peninsula folk like supporting the Safeway union.

Maybe someone should ask some questions. I couldn’t care less about imported garbage. Send it back, we don’t want it. Sell it in china. Return to sender, address unknown. The last thing we need in this country is more cheap china junks. SEND IT BACK!

Let’s go Brandon!!

Is it not time for all those who suck off the system with their lame excuses why they cannot work to be directed to the docks and assist with the unloading of these vessels to get the goods moving.

I see many on the streets who are in better shape than I am due to all the freebies they are given, legal an illegal, who can work and pay back all the monies and services they sucked up.

Sound bitter damn straight. I work and am disabled so their is no excuse why many can’t get their sorry behinds in gear. Day care can be set up to have these folks have one less excuse why they cannot work.

Last time I checked, the U.S. was a net-exporter of beef and many other food pro, so problems at the LA Port are not responsible for all of the inflation. But some shortages?

Out here windows are very difficult to find, even for major builders. Electrical switches and receptacles, door hardware, all sorts of items are in short supply. Some of this can be attributed to a construction boom, but others? Oh, and I just heard that Roundup (the generic) is going to double in price. Reminds me of the 1970’s.

Interesting in our area believe working 24/7 started last year.
Just my opinion, think 24/7 was hammered out then quietly handed over to biden to help his sub basement poll numbers.

For those who my think this is a recent problem,

July 2020
‘California governor urged to reverse ports’ receding market share’
“Economist reports container volume is moving to East and Gulf coasts”

August 2020
‘California requires ships, trucks to eliminate thousands of tons of pollution’

President Biden on Thursday continued his tradition of turning his back on reporters and walking away, ignoring shouted questions at the conclusion of prepared remarks.
Have to be proud, a president who is not allowed to answer questions.

Cautiously Informed October 14, 2021 at 8:54 PM

Don’t worry, as he stated, Joe is going to make the country right again.
In the real world, anyone and everyone who has half a brain can clearly see that everything Joe touches turns to crap.

Jeff (the other one) October 15, 2021 at 7:37 AM

Maybe instead of bussing/flying all the illegals to the interior, the feds ought to send them to LA to help unload containers. The last thing the Port Authority in LA needs is somebody from the federal government coming to help. A field ripe for new graft, with seasoned career bureaucrats (thieves) licking their chops at the millions they will be able to divert.
