Red Cross Reports Emergency Shortage Of Blood, Platelets

The American Red Cross reports that an emergency shortage of blood and platelets has caused its blood supply to drop to the lowest post-summer level in at least six years.

With less than a day’s supply of certain blood types in recent weeks, the Red Cross asks donors of all blood types — especially type O — to make an appointment to give blood or platelets as soon as possible to ensure patients can receive the lifesaving transfusions they rely on, according to Cari Dighton with the Red Cross’s Northern California Coastal Region.

She said that while donations have dropped by about 10 percent, hospital demand remains high.

Donors are urged to make an appointment to give blood or platelets as soon as possible by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-73-2767).

Dighton said there are dozens of opportunities listed on the website between now and the end of the month.

It’s time to mandate blood donations, for the public good

Badge1104 October 12, 2021 - 5:08 PM - 5:08 PM

I’m waiting for furer Newsom to do this now.

Except if you have the vaccine they dont want your blood……

They don’t want your blood if you had the “jab”. The “UNCLEAN”.
Look it up.

JWB October 12, 2021 - 4:06 PM - 4:06 PM

Let’s just use a little bit of common sense Old Otis

According to this article from the Red Cross donations have dropped about 10%. Given the number of vaccinated people in this county would the donations not have to drop by way more than 10% of vaccines would lo longer be eligible to donate?

The information in this article comes from the Red Cross, would you not expect them to let people know that they no longer can donate if they have received the vaccine. Do you think the Red Cross really wants their appointment operators to be busy by people trying to make appointments if they do not want them?

And lastly it is pretty easy now to check the Red Cross for that information:

https://tinyurl.com/3hzvkxdu

“The following eligibility guidelines apply to each COVID-19 vaccine received, including boosters: There is no deferral time for eligible blood donors who are vaccinated with a non-replicating inactivated or RNA-based COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca, Janssen/J&J, Moderna, Novavax, or Pfizer.”

I know you probably received some internet meme that told you that “they don’t want your blood if you had the jab”. But clearly common sense and actual information show that this is not true. Maybe this would be a good lesson for you to stop believing all these internet memes floating around?

MikeyV October 12, 2021 - 4:07 PM - 4:07 PM

That’s a lie. Easily controverted by reading the Red Cross website.

I’m anti mandate, but I will call out a liar when I see one.

Me October 12, 2021 - 9:03 PM - 9:03 PM

All the fake rumors that go around and even when you prove them wrong. They either keep at it or find something else to say lies about. Crazy world.

Concordian October 12, 2021 - 9:44 PM - 9:44 PM

I’ve donated twice since I got my vaccine. Don’t know what your talking about.

Martin October 13, 2021 - 6:48 AM - 6:48 AM

They might be okay with it, but I don’t want your blood if you had the jab.

Anon October 12, 2021 - 3:36 PM - 3:36 PM

Go and look up some of the vaxxed vs unvaxxed blood vids.
It’s not rocket science, you can even watch without any narration and it’s as plain as day what the issue is.

Old Otis October 12, 2021 - 3:43 PM - 3:43 PM

@Martinezmike
You’re kidding, right???

Janus October 12, 2021 - 4:59 PM - 4:59 PM

Sorry to break it to you but if the State wanted to compel mandatory blood draws they could.

Mandatory vaccinations is based on Jacobson v. Massachusetts which was “necessary for the public health or safety of the community”, which spawned Buck V Bell which lead to forced sterilization of the unfit “for the protection and health of the state” which lead to Koredmatsu V. US which due to “military urgency of the situation demanded that all citizens of Japanese ancestry be segregated from the West Coast”. “Segregated” really meant Concentration Camps for US Citizens.

It’s easy to see how the State “for the protection and health of the state” could mandate forced blood draws.

Anon October 12, 2021 - 7:06 PM - 7:06 PM

WRONG, Janus.
You are just parroting MISINFORMATION.
Ain’t NOBODY coming to inject or draw blood from me, PERIOD.

We have a 2nd Amendment. Now you know what it’s for.

Me October 12, 2021 - 9:13 PM - 9:13 PM

@Anon

So what you’re saying is you’re going to commit violence. Then your 2nd Amendment is waved and you go to prison where they will make you.

And just as a heads up. If they decide to make it a mandate. Yes you have to. Anddddd, Did you know that the Constitution has been changed many different times? It was mainly written to benefit the people who actually wrote it. You’re going off a paper that was just amended in 1992 and has been 27 times other times. You try to find ways to benefit yourself and it’s pretty sad.

Janus October 12, 2021 - 9:56 PM - 9:56 PM

@ Anon

Feel free to look up each of these United States Supreme Court Case decisions and tell me where I’m wrong.

Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905)
Buck v. Bell, 274 U.S. 200 (1927)
Korematsu v. United States, 323 U.S. 214 (1944)

Buck v. Bell & Korematsu v US are probably 2 of the worse SCOTUS decisions behind Dred Scott v. Sandford.

Be that as it may, they are all legal precedent. Bell was weakened by Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (63 years later) and Korematsu was superseded by Civil Liberties Act of 1988 (44 years later).

People have no idea what their Government is capable of. Most just line up like lemmings waiting their turn to walk over the edge for sake of “Safety”. Cradle to grave mentality.

PS: 120,000 Japanese Americans, all with 2nd Amendment rights, were placed in concentration camps by their Government. Keep that in mind when you wrap yourself in the safety of the 2nd Amendment. It isn’t Kevlar lined and talk is cheap.

Gititogether October 12, 2021 - 6:41 PM - 6:41 PM

Was a poll worker last election…folks came prepared to show ID, as one would expect…had to tell them; “unbelievably, it’s not required”…fast forward to last weekend, dropped in to give blood and they wanted 2 forms of id…didn’t have on me…they turned me away. Anyone who doesn’t know we are in ass-backwards bizarro society, is ass-backward bizarro

Literally now they are trying to “get blood out of a turnip”. Many of us have been taxed to death and now they want to suck us dry of our blood!

I have given blood for years but the last time 2 years ago the incompetency of the blood drawers was painful. They did not know what they were doing. Now I will give blood to family and dear friends.

Just like everything else now a days people need to be trained better and want to do their jobs well. We hardly see that anymore.

THe government has made it to easy to have peoplelegal and illegal suck off the system. Who is going to support all of these freebies? BIden’s crew-NOT. Those folks are to busy feathering their nests.

Bad Nombre October 13, 2021 - 10:33 AM - 10:33 AM

I have an appointment to donate next Monday. Second donation post vaccination, for the doubters. I carry my blood donor card around with me all the time. So there is one extra ID.

Googlar October 13, 2021 - 11:36 AM - 11:36 AM

They’ll inject my blood into a person but I have to wear a mask when I donate it. smort

JWB October 13, 2021 - 1:40 PM - 1:40 PM

@Googlar

Here is something for you to google “blood borne pathogens and. air born pathogens”

Googlar October 14, 2021 - 5:28 PM - 5:28 PM

AIDS is a blood borne pathogen. Does staff provide aids clearance prior to service?

JWB October 14, 2021 - 7:12 PM - 7:12 PM

Yes Googlar each blood donation is tested by a Nucleic Acid Test (i.e. PCR or similar) for the presence of HIV (the causative agent for AIDS).

And of course staff uses the appropriate safety measures to stop transmission of HIV (i.e. gloves, single use of needles and tubes, biohazard disposal etc.)

Anon October 14, 2021 - 8:21 PM - 8:21 PM

The vax and the vaxxed blood has been found to contain the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi.
