Cowellian, I couldn’t agree more. Take Gov. DeSantis in Florida. He says he’ll pardon anyone charged with breaking Covid-19 restrictions. When the governor tells the whole state there’s no reason to obey the law, what do you think will happen? No respect for any law.
But back to California and its traffic laws. Anyone out on the road can see that drivers have no respect for traffic laws. Instead of forgiving fines, we need to increase them. But we need to be smart about it. A traffic fine hits a poor person a lot harder than a middle class or wealthy person. We aren’t doing enough to incentivize the middle class and wealthy to obey the law. We need to make the fines proportional to income so that a fine will hurt a rich person just as much as it hurts a poor person. Other countries do fines this way and it makes a lot of sense. We’ll get a lot less dangerous driving if we match the fines to an individual’s income.

3 weeks ago I witnessed a motorist race and zig zag through traffic in order to catch up to a police cruiser and intentionally cut off the cruiser and then brake check the officer.

Honestly typically people who can’t afford to pay a traffic ticket hardly know who the governor is, don’t care about politics, and most certainly don’t vote (especially in a non presidential year). Trust me I’ve lived in some shady apartments back in the day. All they care about is if they get welfare and can get on disability.

Every day I go to my job, I feel like I’m getting f****** in the a**. People are being paid a comparable wage to sit at home, safe, and collect free government money. My job is physical; it hurts my back, it hurts my neck, my feet. I serve and help the public. But I make a comparable sum to those doing nothing, laughing about collecting their unemployment. I should have just been unemployed the whole team. Only an idiot would work a job when he could just collect a similar sum of unemployment.
Now, when I drive, I get to feel like I’m getting f****** in the a**, since I am conscientiously obeying every law and every speed limit. Now, others who break the law and endanger innocent lives get their tickets erased; I should have just been breaking the law the whole time. Only an idiot would drive the speed limit if he can get away with doing 90.
Leave the Man alone already ! This is great news to Me. I owe $500.00 for a speeding ticket earlier this year and Am currently considered low income . It was My 1st ticket in 10 years. Although I was running late for work I was wrong and there is no excuse for driving the way I did except maybe a medical emergency. I have slowed way down since then and now leave the house a little earlier to make sure I make to work on time I have the money tucked away to pay the fine by the due date if need be. But rather I have to pay or not pay I will continue to drive in a safer manor so not every one that’s low income will continue to drive unsafe because they have a license to do so.
