The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning through Monday, May 10 at 6 a.m., prompting the closure of Concord’s open space areas.

Red Flag Warnings are issued when weather conditions include strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures, all of which can contribute to extreme fire danger.

The City of Concord has closed its open space areas with developed walking trails, including Lime Ridge Open Space and portions of Newhall Park. Lime Ridge parking lots at Treat Boulevard and Montecito Drive will also be closed.

Where are the homeless going to sleep at night?

Sam May 8, 2021 - 10:28 AM - 10:28 AM

That’s the people’s land. They have zero authority. All this authoritarianism is un American. These Concord people need to be removed and replaced with normal people who respect our freedom and rights

For more years than I care to remember I came home every night on highway twenty four from San Francisco and every year I noted by May 1 Mt Diablo turned brown. This year it is no different. Brown is brown makes no difference if we had twenty inches of rain in February or not in May the hill is brown. The more we talk about this the more excited arsonists get. We are in a drought year live with it or at least try to.

If its not closed to “COVID” they’ll just use “Extreme Fire Danger” to keep the peasants away. I mean why should we the taxpayers be able to enjoy parks or public lands in the first place? Let’s raise more taxes and watch our infrastructure collapse.

Oh yes!! All a hoax. PLEASE. How can you possibly say that? I know because that is how so many people think now. You all live in a different reality to make your ideas come alive.

Sam May 8, 2021 - 12:50 PM - 12:50 PM

@popcorn Is it us or you who lives in the false reality? That is the million dollar question. I believe it is the side who has followed the “science” of dr fauci and the mainstream lying news and corrupt politicians. In past centuries, you would be in a mental institution for your continual beliefs created for you. You have been propagandized into killing your own brain.

Menticide is real

… good idea… now all they have to do is enforce it

Sam May 8, 2021 - 3:55 PM - 3:55 PM

Yes, all violators should be placed in re-education camps. Concentration type style.

A V Oter May 8, 2021 - 3:13 PM - 3:13 PM

I wonder when we are going to decide enough is enough.

Yea like people walking are the sorce of many fires, and you have more of a chance of being hit by a car if your walking in public than have being injured in a fire in a park. We need to restrict pedestrian walking since that is true. Funny, I know of not one incident where a person lost their life by fire in a park.

theunforgiven May 8, 2021 - 11:38 PM - 11:38 PM

Jojo Potato May 9, 2021 - 11:31 AM - 11:31 AM

I guess you don’t know much. Last year 33 people were killed by wildfires in California. Look it up on Cal Fire.

Chicken Little May 9, 2021 - 11:53 AM - 11:53 AM

Gititogether May 8, 2021 - 8:52 PM - 8:52 PM

So…who the ‘ell is voting for these dictatorial junior bureaucrats who have no faith in your average schmoe (ilovepopcorn et al?)

Caskydiver May 9, 2021 - 7:36 AM - 7:36 AM

How does walking on a trail cause an increase in the chance of a fire??? What nonsense. Maybe I will go anyway…come get me.

ilovepopcorn May 9, 2021 - 10:44 AM - 10:44 AM

Because some people are careless. Right?

Pepe May 9, 2021 - 7:45 AM - 7:45 AM

It’s amazing how easily people are controlled and lead like a dog on a leash . What ever some government agency tells them they mindlessly follow . Every year California has a high fire danger . It’s been like that for decades .The only difference is now the media and our politicians are using it to keep us in fear . They know that fear is the best weapon to take away liberty and freedom from the people and grow their power .

Crazytech58 May 9, 2021 - 9:29 AM - 9:29 AM

While it’s true that walking on a trail never started a fire, those of us who say that are non smokers….. I’m amazed when I see people out walking, enjoying fresh air and nature’s beauty….. while smoking. Some people cant go without smoking long enough to enjoy a nice walk

sam malone May 10, 2021 - 7:45 AM - 7:45 AM

So where are the homeless who cause most of these fires and not climate change going to ransack now. Folks who live near the park better batten down your hatches as they might be in your back yard next.
