BART Board Votes To Add The Prohibition Of Sexual Harassment To The Rider Code Of Conduct

Today the BART Board of Directors voted to amend the Customer Code of Conduct to include the prohibition of sexual harassment.

BART has partnered with Alliance for Girls (AFG), and its members including Betti Ono, Black Girls Brilliance, The Unity Council’s Latinx Mentorship and Achievement Program to launch the Not One More Girl campaign which centers girls and gender expansive youth to combat gender-based violence and sexual harassment on transit.

As part of the Not One More Girl initiative, BART added a question to its ongoing on-board rider survey asking riders if they have experienced sexual harassment on BART in the previous six months. The results from the latest reporting period (October-December 2020) showed 10% of riders responded “yes”.

The campaign leaders presented BART with recommendations on how to advance this work to make BART safer and more welcoming to women, girls, gender-expansive youth and people of color, including updating the Customer Code of Conduct.

ahhh, this is the we hate white people change, got it

RANDOM TASK April 22, 2021 - 2:42 PM - 2:42 PM

Ahhh
Rules of conduct
Like not eating on the platform
We saw how that went
Maybe a study on who is not abiding by the rules
Be it male or female or young or old
No race involved
Then look at psychology of interactions and reasons for such occurrences
Base the study on police reports
Private reports and rider reports
Then combine and compile the data
Put it in a voting machine and see what we get to come out
Only then will we have a correct answer right
The machine is always correct and we have to listen to the machine

Yet again creating something for nothing so yet again they can create more division and more drama and more racism and more chaos over nothing

What percentage of reports were filed for alleged abuse
I mean every one videos everything
Show the videos
Show the tally machine

We don’t believe unless a machine says so no matter how huge or out of wack the numbers are we must follow what the machine says

Are we still on this subject
Maybe if we defund Bart police it will reduce said implied occurrences and if we give the Bart board more money maybe they will stop with all these asinine
Problems that can’t be solved because they down want them solved

They just want to create media and dementia tactics that label people and further degrade society for their gain and amusement

Stop feeding the bears or they will think it’s ok to eat people

PC April 22, 2021 - 2:51 PM - 2:51 PM

Here we go again, more rules but like food or panhandling they don’t do anything to enforce them!

Badge1104 April 22, 2021 - 3:39 PM - 3:39 PM

That’s right they’re going to ignore these rules too.

Tomato Girl April 22, 2021 - 2:54 PM - 2:54 PM

Wait? This actually had to be added ? These over paid officials must really think we are all idiots

WC April 22, 2021 - 3:14 PM - 3:14 PM

Ah yes. It will be so nice not to be sexually harassed while sitting on a feces and urine-covered seat with crazy people shooting up drugs.

Badge1104 April 22, 2021 - 3:17 PM - 3:17 PM

Yeah right, like the troublemakers on Bart are going to obey that rule any more than they do the other rules.

Bob April 22, 2021 - 3:46 PM - 3:46 PM

“gender-expansive youth”

What a time to be alive

Amateur Teacher April 22, 2021 - 4:06 PM - 4:06 PM

So this means they will be citing and removing the bums getting on the AM train to Antioch that wake up out of a meth-come down stupor and start jerking it in their seat while staring at a woman on her way to work. Or is it still racist to do that.

caskydiver April 22, 2021 - 4:20 PM - 4:20 PM

sexual harassment is already a crime….why is this redundancy needed? Virtue signalling?

remember April 22, 2021 - 5:37 PM - 5:37 PM

Amen!

Strad April 23, 2021 - 9:01 AM - 9:01 AM

Bart board and police are both redundant.

Chris April 22, 2021 - 4:47 PM - 4:47 PM

Great…this will really motivate the masses to return. Now if we could just figure out a way for all the fare evaders to pay up, but I guess certain individuals are excluded due to being marginalized or economically disadvantaged.

Jeff (the other one?) April 22, 2021 - 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

I am afraid to ask how much of the budget went toward crafting this cerebral prohibition. I think the Board should really be sitting on Harvard’s Board with such erudite rulings.

MTZ GUY April 22, 2021 - 8:43 PM - 8:43 PM

Now wait a minute, is there something we’re missing here?
Does this “Customer Code of Conduct” say anything about behaving in a mature manner while on the BART system? Mutual respect for other transit riders while in the system? No eating on board trains? No crapping, pissing or using drugs on train cars or within the system? Or paying your fair is a requirement to ride the system?
OK, now we need be make BART safer and more welcoming to women, girls, gender-expansive youth and people of color.
WTF?

Googlar April 23, 2021 - 5:00 AM - 5:00 AM

This is excellent news. The next time I’m being raped on BART I will take out my rules of conduct and show it to the raper.

OverWhelmed April 23, 2021 - 8:37 AM - 8:37 AM

Like that is going to stop the sexual harassment.

KT April 23, 2021 - 9:03 AM - 9:03 AM

How about putting up posters about the following:

Don’t sit in the handicap/senior citizen seats? Don’t look down and pretend you don’t see who really needs to sit down.

Be a gentleman and give up your seat when you see a pregnant woman and/or woman with children. It’s sad that it’s mostly women who give up their seats while all the men look down and pretend they don’t see anything.

Young people, show respect to elders and to woman with children/pregnant

Young people, show respect at all times. You’re not the only one on the train.

Janon April 23, 2021 - 10:13 AM - 10:13 AM

Government run agencies are so slow to change. I cannot believe it took until the year 2021 to add this in to their policies – not that they enforce anyways. They should allow a privately run alternative to BART that’s what I would take if needed-with actual security, a dresscode, cleanliness code and automatically kicked off if a nuisance to anyone.

Chicken Little April 23, 2021 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

And I can’t believe that, in the year 2021, anybody would find it necessary to explicitly prohibit such a thing in the official Code of Conduct.

Janon April 23, 2021 - 2:06 PM - 2:06 PM

Who would prohibit that? Just cannot believe it took this long.

Dorothy April 23, 2021 - 10:46 AM - 10:46 AM

All those “do not” codes look nice in written statements. The board pay themselves big bucks to decide what to put in those statements. None of them to apply to the board, just the riders.

Concord74 April 23, 2021 - 11:16 AM - 11:16 AM

Why is this even needed?? Is it at all enforceable?? If a “transgender” yells “RAPE!!!” does it require a female officer or a male officer or do we sit on our hands until a “Transgender” officer can be found?
This cancel culture mentality is not only idiotic but a big waste of funds!!

The Fearless Spectator April 23, 2021 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

Gender Expansive.
BART is experiencing “Homeless Expansive”.
From a numbers perspective, I am willing to bet Homeless Epansive affects many more people than Gender Expansive. So why not work on the largest and most prolific issue?
My guess is the public will expect results; so best not go down that road.

DEB April 23, 2021 - 6:21 PM - 6:21 PM

Japan has solved the problem to protect women from sexual harassment from men aboard public train transportation…separate cars for those ladies seeking to be left alone. There is 1 car dedicated to women only. Brilliant.

Barbie Girl April 23, 2021 - 9:41 PM - 9:41 PM

I was felt up once by a blind man on Bart. At first I thought he made a mistake because he couldn’t see. Then it happened again, Hmmmm nope he was a perv. I was so startled and grossed out, I jumped off at the next station in Union City.

Chicken Little April 24, 2021 - 8:34 AM - 8:34 AM

Probably wasn’t even really blind.

Gittyup April 24, 2021 - 6:55 AM - 6:55 AM

I rode BART back in the days when everybody got a seat, the men wore suits and ties, and read the Wall Street Journal. The women wore dresses and skirts. Everyone was well behaved. How far we’ve come.

TonyB April 25, 2021 - 1:18 AM - 1:18 AM

These guys enforce fare evasion at Embarcadero at Embarcadero at 8 AM with people commuting instead of Civic Center at 9:30 at night or police is a joke you people are cowards

Fred April 26, 2021 - 12:26 AM - 12:26 AM

“Alliance for Girls”? What about those that identify as female or other “non-binary?”

Whatta pile of crap!
