6,300 Receive Smaller Than Recommended COVID-19 Vaccine Doses At Coliseum

Roughly 6,300 people who received a COVID-19 vaccination at the Oakland Coliseum last week may have received slightly less than the dosage recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention but are not advised to repeat the dose, the California Department of Public Health said Monday.

People who received a Pfizer vaccine dose Feb. 28 after 4:30 p.m. and March 1 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. may have received the slightly smaller doses, the CDPH said in a statement.

The CDC’s recommended dose of the vaccine is 0.3 milliliters but dosages of 0.15 milliliters or more are still sufficient and would not require the recipient to repeat the dose, according to the CDPH.

The affected vaccine recipients at the Coliseum may have received dosages of 0.22 milliliters, “which is well within the range outlined by the CDC,” the CDPH said in a statement.

On-site staff at the vaccine site, which is jointly operated by the California Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, corrected the dosage discrepancy on March 1, according to the CDPH.

People who received their first dose during the affected window on Feb. 28 and March 1 must still receive their second dose roughly three weeks after the first is administered.

CDPH officials also sent a letter to those who received the slightly smaller doses, informing them of the dosage difference and reminding them of the vaccine’s two-dose schedule.

People with questions about the COVID-19 vaccine dose they received can contact the CDPH at novelvirus@cdph.ca.gov or by calling (833) 422-4255.

Well that inspires confidence in the whole vaccine rollout plan. Makes me want to rush right out and get my shot.

The people we all elected to represent us in government are incapable of managing anything.

The vaccine distribution is the most recent proof of the government’s ineptitude.

The distribution of the vaccine is overly complex and saving any percentage for special groups is simply wrong.

Politicians playing to special interests only hurts everyone.

Keep the distribution simple and fair to everyone regardless of special interests.

Healthcare workers, older folks have been first and should be first. Then the communities who have the most cases followed by everyone else.

No one will be satisfied.

Politicians only please those who pay them the most.

A lot of the people giving out shots are not medical professionals and went through a very short training period. This is why I wouldn’t trust anybody to give me a shot other than a doctor, nurse, medical assistant, physician assistant, pharmacist, and maybe a dentist. They were properly trained and have more experience.
I read in the news they blamed it on the syringes they used. Yeah, right. A poor workman always blames his shoddy work on his tools.

I heard that some of those shots in Oakland have critical side effects. Including sensitivity to loud noises, external bleeding, and lead poisoning

Elderly relative used Coliseum drive through yesterday. Delighted with how organized it was. Very happy overall. It’s an option for Contra Costa County residents – I think I’d trust it now.

The Fearless Spectator March 8, 2021 - 9:52 PM - 9:52 PM

The drive into Oakland is the dangerous part.

“Fearless” I agree with you. More likely to die of random bullet shot than the big C virus.
