A gun, a law enforcement badge and credentials were stolen from an FBI Special Agent’s vehicle on Lafayette Circle in Lafayette at about 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, a FBI spokeswoman said. The gun is a .40 caliber Glock 22 pistol.

“The FBI, in partnership with the Lafayette Police Department, is actively working to locate and recover these items in the interest of public safety,” the FBI said in a statement.

“The investigation remains ongoing and we cannot provide further comment at this time.”

Butter fingers.

XJ February 22, 2021 - 9:17 PM - 9:17 PM

Cuz only police and FBI have enough skills and training to keep their firearms safe! DOH!!! What an idiot! How can you not keep your gun locked in a safe? That’s what every law abiding citizen has to do in order to be compliant with CA law. AND it must be unloaded. AND there can be no ammunition in the chamber. AND, if you’re caught otherwise, you will lose your gun to the authorities and your 2nd Amendment rights, face a fine and jail time. AND the DA will throw the book at you cuz guns are bad m-kay?

So sick of this crappy double-standard.

Grow up CA and GROW UP FBI agents!

Jeff February 23, 2021 - 7:33 AM - 7:33 AM

XJ,

Why? Because the FBI agent is likely required to armed at all times, I was as an LEO. The Glock 22 is too large for off duty concealed, should have left that one at home.

Uh-oh, somebody’s in deep doo-doo.

Raiderette February 22, 2021 - 4:32 PM - 4:32 PM

I think that FBI agent should be fired. He should know not to leave that stuff in the car. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m just a regular person and even I know NOT to leave valuables in cars.

And how do you know it was a “he”?

Chicken Little February 22, 2021 - 4:43 PM - 4:43 PM

The rest of us peasants have to have our guns locked in a lockbox attached by a cable to the vehicle when we leave them unattended. I wonder if this person did that.

Anonymous February 22, 2021 - 4:44 PM - 4:44 PM

Glock 22? They better find it before it explodes in some “teenager’s” face!

Maybe the FBI has to stop hiring the woke.

Hayden Barsotti February 22, 2021 - 5:20 PM - 5:20 PM

The agent was probably hired under the affirmative action rules. Move to the head of the line please. I’m not a racist, but these are some of the results that happen when regulations are not thought out correctly.

Ghosn February 22, 2021 - 5:58 PM - 5:58 PM

This happened in Lafayette. The only “colored” things there are the clothes on the backs of whitey.

Jeff February 23, 2021 - 7:35 AM - 7:35 AM

Ghosn,

I’m sure affluent families of color are welcomed into the Lafayette community.

what does race have anything to do with it?

Rollo Tomasi February 25, 2021 - 7:05 AM - 7:05 AM

@hr:
“what does race have anything to do with it?”

Absolutely nothing. That said, please point out any evidence of racial bias in the George Floyd incident, the Jacob Blake incident, the Rayshard Brooks incident, etc.

There are race hustlers everywhere.

ChuckStir February 22, 2021 - 5:51 PM - 5:51 PM

Anyone remember Kate Steinle story? If not, read about it. You would think after that incident occured any FBI agent would remember what happened because of a federal agents lack of judgement. You can not cure stupid.

Tsa February 22, 2021 - 6:02 PM - 6:02 PM

A responsible gun owner wouldn’t have been so careless. No excuse for this kind of circumstance!

XJ February 22, 2021 - 9:18 PM - 9:18 PM

Exactly! 100% agreement!

Badge1104 February 22, 2021 - 6:27 PM - 6:27 PM

I guess the agent was lunching in Lafayette.
I’m warning though was this one of those ‘unmarked cars’ that totally looks like an unmarked car… Some thieves in the area must have spotted it and known what they can get from it. it’s probably right now on the streets of Oakland.

Jeff February 23, 2021 - 7:36 AM - 7:36 AM

Badge 1104,

More likely their personal vehicle on a weekend.

Fire him…. and file charges.

XJ February 22, 2021 - 9:22 PM - 9:22 PM

Yes to both. Strip away his ability to own firearms or ammunition for the next 5 years. Turn everything else he owns in at a gun buy-back for $100 Walmart card. Or sell to the lowest bidder. If spouse or significant other also owns firearms, Ex-FBI agent should not have any access to them. Fine the agent and jail time should be mandatory.

No exceptions.

What’s good for the CA citizenry is good for those entrusted to enforce it.

Janus February 22, 2021 - 11:00 PM - 11:00 PM

XJ

Except that is not what happens to any CA Citizenry or non-residents.

25140. (a) CVC is an infraction punishable by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000). Forfeiture of property having nothing to do with the violation and jail is not an option.

All that is required to comply with 25140 CVC is to locked the handgun in the vehicle’s trunk, lock the handgun in a locked container and place the container out of plain view, lock the handgun in a locked container that is permanently affixed to the vehicle’s interior and not in plain view, or lock the handgun in a locked toolbox or utility box he committed no violation of the law.

Perhaps we should wait before you decide to Ox-Bow the Agent?

PO'd February 22, 2021 - 6:43 PM - 6:43 PM

Comforting to know they are actively working to locate and recover the Glock.
I feel so much better now.

Jeff (the other one?) February 22, 2021 - 7:32 PM - 7:32 PM

I wonder why the Agent left his info in the vehicle. I am assuming the gun was left in because so many establishments are gun free zones. Either way, not very good. Are break ins becoming more common in Lafayette, too? Just bad news all around.

XJ February 22, 2021 - 9:23 PM - 9:23 PM

Regardless if an establishment was a gun-free zone, you don’t ‘disarm’ if you’re an FBI agent or LEO.

Dangus khan February 22, 2021 - 7:45 PM - 7:45 PM

Dejavu???? Didnt they pass a law so this wouldnt happen? Wait…..

dude February 22, 2021 - 8:28 PM - 8:28 PM

Didn’t the exact same thing happen in Lafayette a year or 2 back? Same agent possibly?

Ignatz February 22, 2021 - 9:25 PM - 9:25 PM

Gun control ain’t gonna fix this…
I’m sure it will show up in the next Buy Back session…
Yeah, right….

When did FBI agents start driving Kia’s? And if this happened in Lafayette a few months ago, I smell a big rat.

Dr. Jellyfinger February 23, 2021 - 6:02 AM - 6:02 AM

LoL! Have you people not been paying any attention for the past 4 years?
The FBI does not punish their agents! Even those who openly plotted against the President, spied on him and lied to the FISA Court … repeatedly! No charges, oh sure a couple got fired (and 50 lashes with a wet noodle) and these were agents that DELIBERATELY broke the law…. not like this KIA driving agent 86 who just got too lazy to lock up his weapon securely. He probably won’t get anything worse than a frowzy face in his HR File.

Randy February 23, 2021 - 7:52 AM - 7:52 AM

.. again? aren’t they supposed to be locked in a safe? was the agent supposed to have the firearm on their person? or close by?

Sam Malone February 23, 2021 - 8:54 AM - 8:54 AM

Really, yet again this seems to be a constant with higher level law enforcement. Fire him or her and file charges. Just what we need another gun on the loose.

Is as bad as last night when I was driving on Monument Blvd. near the homeless camp set up by the Bart Train tracks in spitting distance from the Concord PD near the Concord Skate Park. Homeless are apparently allowed now to do opening burning-huge campfires by the side of the road. This endangers the rest of the community. Why are laws not enforced for them and Concord PD has to look the other way. The homeless are experts at starting fires and damaging property.

Wake up as I am sick and tired of being taxed for the failure of laws being enforced.

LL Cool J February 23, 2021 - 9:28 AM - 9:28 AM

Why was the FBI in Lafayette Circle? Grabbing a burger at Roam, lunch at Chow (or whatev it’s called now)?

Anonymous February 24, 2021 - 1:05 PM - 1:05 PM

Maybe freshly baked bread and pastries at La Châtaigne? That place rocks. It’s an actual bakery, unlike the majority of so-called “bakeries” in Claycord that order from a wholesaler based on Oakland or Hayward. Best bread around here.

Steve February 23, 2021 - 11:19 AM - 11:19 AM

There should be tracking system for firearms of law enforcement especially the FBI. We can track our cellphones, for Pete’s sake. Hello, is anybody out there?

Justin February 23, 2021 - 4:58 PM - 4:58 PM

To #TSA
BING, It all comes down to responsibilities apparently I’m not judging this person but this person should not have left his firearm and all his documentation or was called assets in his vehicle But I don’t know where it was what the circumstances were in this case but you should never leave a firearm in a vehicle unattended even if it’s locked up don’t give anyone a chance it’s common sense well but people who like to go to the firing range

The Masked (and gloved) Poster February 23, 2021 - 7:36 PM - 7:36 PM

While I don’t agree with leaving a weapon and ID in a car, it’s possible the
agent might have been operating undercover, trying to establish a relationship with an informant, and couldn’t risk being searched for a weapon or ID proving him/her to be law enforcement. Yeah, even in Lafayette.
