County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Thomas Warne spoke to Contra Costa Supervisors this afternoon regarding COVID-19.
Below is a quick summary of the information he provided (in his words):
- The COVID-19 death rate in Contra Costa County is less than 1%.
- Still seeing a “worsening trend” with ICU capacity in the Bay Area.
- Bay Area hospital ICU capacity is 3.4%.
- Hospitals are not overwhelmed in Contra Costa County, but they are stressed and strained.
- 65,151 vaccine doses have been administered in Contra Costa County.
- The county has done a good job delivering the vaccine.
- About 4,000 people a day are being vaccinated in Contra Costa County.
- County is in phase 1B of vaccine distribution – People 65 and over, frontline essential workers, jail inmates, etc.
Dr. Warne also answered questions from the public.
Below are his answers:
- You don’t need a social security number to get a vaccine, but you do need some form of government ID.
- Youth sports are not allowed at this time. (some sports conditioning is allowed)
- The decision to close outdoor dining was made by the state.
- There were more suicides in Contra Costa County in 2019 than in 2020, according to Supervisor Candace Andersen.
Contra Costa County Schools Superintendent Lynn Mackey also commented and answered questions.

- Teachers will not be required to return to the classroom once they’re vaccinated.
- The vaccine is only one layer of protection.
- Agrees with the science saying schools are safe to open.

When the hell when teachers be required to return?
Never if the teachers union has anything to say about it … and Adam Useless Clark will not force them to.
I think for a teacher to get the vaccine as an essential worker they should have a contract that says they will return to the classroom immediately. They wanna say they are essential, then step up to the front lines. If you are unwilling to step with the vaccine, then you do not get one.
Why are teachers prioritized to receive the vaccine if they are not required to return to the classroom? What about people that cannot work remotely like plumbers and grocery store employees. Why are teachers ahead of them in the vaccine line if they can work safely from home? It makes no sense.
Did anyone ask them to explain how ICU capacity is calculated?
CDC and WHO have revamped the number of PCR cycles needed to test a Covid swabs. The original cycle number was too high and led to increased false positives. Watch the numbers drop like a rock, along with the convenient timing…
It’s really nice to know that jail inmates are getting vaccinated while the rest of us wait in line.
Yeah, well we are all “stressed and strained” at this point.
If teachers are not going to teach in person, then they should not get the vaccine ahead of other people. Corrupt officials bowing to a powerful union once again.
One more reason to leave California before it is too late.

Studies have shown that children have a very low chance of getting sick from this virus. Teachers can get vaccinated and get back to teaching. I have lost respect for teachers now. They are in it for their pensions not for the children.
I turned in my request to be vaccinated almost 2 weeks now but I don’t have schedule yet. Still waiting for answer on when I can get vaccinated.

What does this even mean??? If this is true, then the MDUSD has truly become a mafia. We don’t want to pay teachers to stay at home, that is not what anybody signed up for with property taxes and the formation of public schools districts. If right now you asked people to pay new taxes for online public schools in lieu of in-person, the voters would tell you to fly a kite. This is become theft!

Here is a great article written by the Associated Press regarding the lack of transparency coming from the State regarding the ICU capacity. Evidently, the counties don’t even know how the super secret State model works.
When the state says Southern California and San Joaquin Valley regions have 0% ICU capacity, it means the bulk of patients in the ICUs are COVID-19 patients, not that there are no ICU beds
Epidemiologists say that ICU capacity is the wrong metric to justify a SIP. Also, note that the Sacramento Region is at 8% ICU capacity, slightly lower than where is was when the State lifted their SIP (the State projections are wrong).

I find it interesting that you don’t need an id to vote but you do need one to get a vaccine
