Walnut Creek BART Parking Garage To Be Partially Closed For Six Weeks For Lighting Upgrades

BART closed part of the parking garage at its Walnut Creek station starting Monday as part of a project to upgrade the lighting system in the structure.

The six-week project is part of a plan to upgrade lighting at 14 parking garages throughout the BART system, with more than 10,500 fixtures being replaced and new lighting controls added systemwide.

At Walnut Creek, the first phase of the project will close all levels above the ground floor of the parking garage. When that work is completed, the first floor will be closed with the exception of disabled parking spaces, according to BART.

Hayward was the first station to have the lighting improvement upgrades at its parking garage, and the rest are scheduled to be done by October. Those stations are Millbrae, Fruitvale, Daly City, Pleasant Hill, Concord, San Bruno, MacArthur, Colma, Dublin/Pleasanton, Richmond, El Cerrito del Norte, and South San Francisco.

They just built the thing!!! What happened?

Since BART is like a full cruise ship, without the Buffet and Bar, I won’t be riding it anytime soon.

I thought the same thing, that the parking garage was just built…. but then I realized they’re probably talking about the old parking structure which is still there.

Chuck Norris sleeps with the light on, not because he is afraid of the darkness, but because the darkness is afraid of him.

Of course they are…no sense in returning the billions in taxpayer funds to those who desperately need $$$ during this pandemic. Better to waste millions on overpriced parts & labor

Wait a second, is this job being contracted out or are bart electricians going to do it inhouse ? An are they using LED fixtures for PG&E rebate, wait,
they did remember to make a deal with PG&E first . . . . . ?

Wow

Seems Bart is like politicians now

When ever they open their mouths

They are lying

So take millions again from tax payers

And beef up your parking garage so the crime wave break in criminals
Can get a better look at the hats inside

Brilliant since the state wants more crime and us to pay more taxes for nothing

Again dem voters

I will keep asking

How has voting dem helped you

How has it helped your family
Seriously
Tell us so we know why we are in this predicament

And how it benefits us

Upgrades? The thing is brand new.

Marco January 12, 2021 - 7:17 PM - 7:17 PM

Their upgrade = $10 million mistake they wont admit.
They whitewash it and call it an “upgrade”

Winston January 13, 2021 - 6:37 AM - 6:37 AM

They’re upgrading the old parking garage.

Mitch January 13, 2021 - 11:39 AM - 11:39 AM

Thanks for the clarification Winston.

Probably some bart schmo has a brother in law who got him a screaming deal on lighting, with a fat warranty package.

You should know how this works by now.

There are very few places for the commuters to find parking spaces with the new buildings going up in the parking lots as it is. I know that they charge a lot for the parking lots they have. I feel sorry for them.

It takes 6 weeks to put a few lights in ???? who gets that contract ?

Kauai Mike January 13, 2021 - 5:24 AM - 5:24 AM

Rarely is BART so enlightening! 🙂

Sam Malone January 13, 2021 - 9:26 AM - 9:26 AM

Really-
What a waste of money so I guess those that still use BART can pay the astronomic amount at the private garage next door.

BART it appears is run by the same fools that get elected around here.

Barry Grant January 13, 2021 - 11:12 PM - 11:12 PM

They need to spend that money on upgrading WC Kaiser parking lot. Terrible for years now
