With the CC Health Department reporting the state’s number vs their own number, might their finally be some division / pushback locally against the state dictates?

DLo January 11, 2021 - 2:00 PM - 2:00 PM

That’s what it looks like Mitch. CC Health is reporting the real capacity numbers instead of the State adjusted numbers.

remember January 11, 2021 - 1:29 PM - 1:29 PM

as soon as flu season is over we need to get stores open again and people back to work, enough with the plan-demic

Joe Blo January 11, 2021 - 1:37 PM - 1:37 PM

Good idea, remember. With the death count going up, Covid cases going up, and hospital bed numbers going down, let’s DEFINITELY open up more things than we have now and REALLY kick this into the next gear .. right?
Seems like a good well-thought-out plan. Yup.

JimmyJam January 11, 2021 - 1:39 PM - 1:39 PM

Stores are open.

remember January 11, 2021 - 1:43 PM - 1:43 PM

from your comment you seem to be a leftie, known for their rude and demeaning behavior, my point however if you care is that those numbers are inflated due to the normal (sadly) death due to cold and flus.

check the cdc website on cold and flu season, and research the fact that gun shot victims, car accidents, stabbings are being reported as covid deaths.

Have a nice day

remember January 11, 2021 - 1:52 PM - 1:52 PM

@JJ

is everyone back at work too? LOL

Joe Blo January 11, 2021 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

Oh remember – you’re showing your bias and that makes me smile.

Did you know people who die from flu symptoms AND have cancer are STILL noted as dying of cancer with flu symptoms? Just because someone has Covid and dies from another illness doesn’t negate the Covid medical issue. I know it goes against the narrative you want to push but that’s not how medical reporting works.

On a side note, and a bonus for you, From 2010-2019 (2020+ numbers not finalized until the following year), 322,423 people have died from the flu while 345,737 (for 2020) have died from Covid (meaning – they had Covid symptoms and/or complications when they died). The source of that? The CDC, of course – and data replicated across the WHO and international entities that report national numbers for various countries.

So by your standards, do we “erase” the number of flu deaths because they smoked a carton a day and had bad lungs before getting the flu? Where do we draw that very specific line you’ve created to fit your own demographics? You can try to change the numbers all you want, it doesn’t change the severity of the planet-wide issues.

It’s not a “left” thing – it’s a GLOBAL thing. Nobody in Zimbabwe cares about America’s left, right or centralist ways of thinking – they only care about their own problems. Maybe stop trying to make everything political and instead see things for how they are. I stand by what I previously said here – things are getting worse and your desire to want to open things and make them EVER WORSE than they currently are is staggering and shows how out of touch someone who believes that really is. This is the same thinking that’s creating problems across this country with people actually believing Trump won the election and every news organization, reporter, government official and judge are against them. Insane.

parent January 11, 2021 - 2:44 PM - 2:44 PM

@Joe
We get it. You are concerned. I respect your concerns. They are valid concerns. It appears that you are not comfortable with risk, or you think that this risk is simply to high. Since you are so worried, please stay home.

For those of us that are more comfortable with this level of risk, why can we not go out, shop, gather etc … If you are home, you are not at ‘threat’ from those of us that want to go out.

Right?

Joe Blo January 11, 2021 - 3:08 PM - 3:08 PM

Parent – If I stay home, what about the people in my household that are REQUIRED to go outside of the house for food and to help others in the hospital? There are two doctors and a police officer residing in this house. Surely the correct call here isn’t to tell people “if they want to stay home they should” – people working minimum wage jobs wouldn’t go to work to put themselves at risk (if they were taken care of financially) so people who “know better and want to go out” can get their $7 latte. If the government took care of its people better, more people wouldn’t feel the need to go to their lower-paying jobs where the risk/reward benefit is severely tilted to one side.

Side note – Did you know some lesser well-off countries are giving their population approximately $550 (USD converted) each week to help get through the pandemic? We’re still debating $600 for nine months – which does literally nothing for anybody anywhere in this country.

People need a paycheck to live since the government is failing “the people” .. so they go out, risk exposure to a global virus for minimum wage – sometimes more – just to put food on the table. “Just stay home” isn’t a solution – it’s a way to avoid the actual problem the community, county, state, nation, and world has.

Joe Blo January 11, 2021 - 3:16 PM - 3:16 PM

(since we can’t edit comments)

Parent – Sorry, also forgot to state a thank you for the respect comment. It’s hard to come by around here but it IS appreciated all the same. 🙂

parent January 11, 2021 - 3:29 PM - 3:29 PM

@ Joe
Go out for you $7 latte, sorry you obviously make more money than I do .. or at least like coffee more than I do.

2 Doctors, a police officer and you … sounds like a fun house! My house is not nearly as fun.

Some countries do give their people money to live on, but last time I checked, I lived in America where I could make my own living. I do not have to have the same thing as everyone else .. I can drive a Lexus and you can drive your Yugo. I do not get told by the government what job I can do, or cannot do. If I want to be a doctor I can, and if I want to drive Tractor Trailers, I can. We are allowed to make choices.

If the government cannot pay the money to allow folks to live, they should let people go back to work. Let us work, let the kids in school, let the kids play sports. This lockdown is more than just a financial impact. But maybe cause you live with 2 doctors and a police officer you don’t see that.

Captain Bebops January 11, 2021 - 4:29 PM - 4:29 PM

We have a “Harrison Bergeron” scenario where everyone is expected to live at the level the lowest common denominator. So that means if there is a tiny group who suffers because of their health situation then we all must suffer with them. No, it doesn’t make sense and that was the point of Vonnegut’s story. Take care of the folks who have the problem and let everyone else carry on.

Joe Blo January 11, 2021 - 6:28 PM - 6:28 PM

Parent – You hit the nail on the head.

“If the government cannot pay the money to allow folks to live…”

Our government CAN – they just choose not to. Any quick glance at the recent legislation will show what money is being used for. Foreign aide, military defense, and of course those $500 one-time-use throwaway pens.

As to your other points, I actually don’t drink coffee (it was an example). Our house is plenty of fun actually! I’ll extend an invite when the country is more manageable. We’d love to have neighbors over for some board games and BBQ!

As for the “choices” comments, yup – everybody has choices to make and when far too many people choose themselves over everybody as a whole, that’s problem – and one met with rules to protect all people, all communities and all life. Sacrifices are made, sure, but those have a chance to be “corrected” down the line. If families are broken apart due to death and mayhem (look at DC right now), then there won’t be much of a “down the line” to look forward to.

It’s all perspective. I’m sorry you don’t agree – but given how the entire planet is [basically] doing the same thing in regards to protective actions for its people against a new medical threat, the “open everything up now” people might be vocal but they’re not the majority. Not by a long shot.

Also, it seems as though two gorillas in the San Diego Zoo tested positive for Covid today due to human interactions. That puts them up with other animals who have tested positive for Covid such as house dogs and cats. Maybe those animals should be allowed to roam free and infect others because it’s “their right” as well?

anon January 11, 2021 - 7:54 PM - 7:54 PM

I find it humorous that the same people who complain about having a choice to go out, open businesses or wear a mask are the same ones that have a choice to pay taxes and get licenses. The difference is one set affects yourself while the other set affects the community as a whole. It really shows a lot about a person when they don’t care for rules that helps keep everyone safe but have no issues following the rules that only affect themselves.

Chuq January 11, 2021 - 10:37 PM - 10:37 PM

Hi Parent, here is the problem with the “If it bothers you please stay home” plan. There aren’t COVID-only hospitals. Hospitals have to treat normal patients. So if people like you go out and get COVID and you are one of the people who needs a bed in the ICU, that means we have fewer resources when someone is in an accident or has a heart attack.

Your plan doesn’t just put people who aren’t afraid of COVID at risk, it puts people who stayed at home because they care about not spreading the virus at risk if they need medical attention for any other reason.

It’s cool to care, Parent.

Pepe January 12, 2021 - 7:38 AM - 7:38 AM

jo blo , you sound like an intelligent person , so maybe you can tell us all where the government will get all the money to pay everybody a living wage to stay home . Print it ? Borrow it so our kids and grandkids will be taxed to death ? Your kind of thinking has ruined all countries it has been tried . We all need to work and make a living and not depend on the government to take care of us . I’m 67 and I’m not going to waste anymore time on this Covid B S .I’m going to be as careful as I can and live . You live your life the way you want .

JimmyJam January 11, 2021 - 1:59 PM - 1:59 PM

@remember Ah yes the lefties, the same group that stormed the Capitol last Wednesday.

You have facts that car accidents are being reported as Covid deaths?

JG27 AD January 11, 2021 - 4:10 PM - 4:10 PM

JimmyJam said: “@remember Ah yes the lefties, the same group that stormed the Capitol last Wednesday.”

The question is not whether lefties stormed the Capitol or lefties burned, looted, murdered in various cities all summer. We are evaluating the risk/reward of dealing with Covid.

Please try to keep up…

Newsom says the bay area is at 0.7%. I’m very confused.

Ricardoh January 11, 2021 - 2:54 PM - 2:54 PM

Open every business. If you are old, fat, and in bad shape stay home. This is not worth bankrupting people. If you have a job and have your salary try to stay out of the argument. You are not getting hurt.

Chuq January 11, 2021 - 10:41 PM - 10:41 PM

And you are volunteering to sign a waiver saying you and the people in your household will not be eligible for a bed in the ICU? Not everyone needs one. Heck, 60% of people with one pre-existing condition aren’t hospitalized – I’m sure you’ll be just fine with not being able to receive medical care.

I will quote Walter Matthau from the movie “Survivors”

” I don’t want to SURVIVE… I want to LIVE!

RANDOM TASK January 11, 2021 - 4:12 PM - 4:12 PM

Wow lol too funny

Don’t even remember who said Zimbabwe but

Here we go

Did you not read the latest house stimulus
Hundreds of Billions of our dollars went across the world
Let that soak in for a sec
Need more time

Again slowly The Who and cdc and every other health claimed org
Is beholden to China

Europe and the EU are beholden to China

Africa and Middle East shop den to China

South America belongs to Russia and soon will have missiles facing the US

YOUR sad devotion to a dictatorship of democrats is obvious

Those countries all received money for Covid from us

Why you ask or I hope so

Because the democrats are beholden to China as well

Why do you think they are for tearing down our history

When every famous philosopher dead or alive all say without monuments to our history like pyramids which are likely next in the list to be destroyed by everyone’s ill perceived notion that if slaves built it burn it

Just like the book burning in Germany
If the Jews wrote it burn it

Destroying history so they can make their own and leave no clues to how it will end

Those monuments are there so your children can ask and you can tell the tale
Without them they get liberal media for their minds

You say it’s a world problem not a liberal democrat problem
Then why are we paying
We did not create or release the virus
We did not lie about it
We did not keep sending people loaded on 747s to the America’s infected with Covid

Again if the masks work then what’s the problem
If they don’t then why are we wearing them

You and your run hide cowardice and wait for it to be over
Is the biggest laugh of all
It will never be gone until you walk out side and build up immunity

Most liberals cry for people to wear their mask until there is a cure
Lol
The vaccines only work for a few months then back for another shot
It wait
It mutated
Oh well we have a shot for that
Oh wait it mutated again

Rinse and repeat
All the while passing laws to rape your children and steal your belongings

It’s comical and dark and sad that you want to promote them like they are gods

The only ones who can do right and cast out the wrong
The only ones you can follow

It actually sounds biblical yet most of the world don’t trust that either

Self aware and vigilance and common sense need to be used

Before the wear your mask police can utter a word

Cries of science
Lol
Science created it
And man will use it to ride you to the ground
While yes democrat politicians get rich

You cry about orange man while
Pelosi flounders trying to find new gardeners for her spread
And newscum feasts with wine and song

It’s a book I need to write a hide and set a timer to blow open in 500’years
And have the future gaze at the fiction of your freedoms

As we did after we and others said no and defeated Germany
Twice for being overly boisterous and nasty

As liberals now denounce riots and chaos

Let the poets write psalms and poems and rejoice at the world for being so naive

JimmyJam January 11, 2021 - 4:43 PM - 4:43 PM

@parent

Stores are open, I just came home from three of them.
Sports are taking place. My kids swim, play soccer and hockey.
You can gather. Playgrounds are open.

Chuq January 11, 2021 - 10:39 PM - 10:39 PM

I would agree Aunt Barbara that there hasn’t been any indication that outdoor dining is risky – though I imagine fewer people want to eat outside at the moment.

Savagette January 12, 2021 - 12:58 AM - 12:58 AM

To everyone out there that believes these lockdowns are justified….the lockdowns are doing far more harm to people then you realize. My 85 year old grandmother just got out of the hospital after being there over a week. No, she did not have covid. She collapsed in her apartment and hit her head. At the hospital we were told Her sodium levels got so low she fainted. Prior to covid, she attended the curved gym 2 to 3 times a week, she was very active with no health issues. Since covid, she has had little physical contact with us, only going to the store once a week, and slightly depressed and lonely. Over the past month, her appetite dwindled and sodium levels were extremely low. Now, these lockdowns have not worked and the proof is right in front of your face. This state has the highest or almost highest covid cases. So, even in lockdowns here we are. So, if the ICU beds is the issue, why not set up more. Back in March I recall they were setting up covid field hospitals inside repurposed buildings or even tents expecting a surge so why aren’t they doing that now?

Paul barnes January 12, 2021 - 2:21 AM - 2:21 AM

These government types cant even count ICU beds, yet they are in charge of your very freedoms. If that isnt scary to anyone, i feel pity for you.
