Awesome photo. How quiet and peaceful it looks as a dusty one-horse town..

I agree with you Silva. I’ve seen other great
old pictures of the festivals held in Walnut
Creek. The first starting in 1911 was The
Grape Festival. As vineyards were replaced
by walnut groves and with the help of Prohibition
it was changed to The Walnut Festival in 1936.
The old pictures show that the folks sure knew
how to have fun. See if you can find any pictures
of the old Grape Festival.

Oh wow, Shoulda Coulda, that is news to me! I don’t think I ever heard about the grapes, at all. I bet they really did know how to have fun, and I sure will try to find some photos!

Boy, you weren’t kidding, Shoulda Coulda. What good times that must have been. It would be so interesting to visit them for a little while, a couple of years maybe, with the option to stay longer! A feast for the eyes, for sure. Here are just a few wonderful photos from the Contra Costa County Historical Society, I have heard they have a truly amazing collection. I wish you a such a very healthy and Happy New Year, Shoulda Coulda!

Thank you Silva! I’m enjoying the old pictures.
I’m still looking for other very cool pictures of
The Grape Festival that I’ve seen in the past.
Particularly one that shows folks dressed in
grape costumes and the decorations on the
street. When I was a kid and lived in Pleasant
Hill we would ride our bikes out to some of
the Walnut Orchards in the Concord area. We
could earn money by filling buckets with walnuts
that had fallen on the ground. I think we got
25 cents for a 5 gallon bucket. We also got our
hands stained black from the walnuts. If I can
find that photo I’ll attach it to one of your future
posts. Wishing you a Happier Healthier New Year!
I always enjoy reading your comments my friend.

Thanks, but the images are too small.
