VIDEO: Tuesday’s Contra Costa Supervisors Meeting – Board Discusses Increasing Fines On Businesses

by CLAYCORD.com

It appears Contra Costa County changed the link to the video we previously posted of Tuesday’s board of Supervisors meeting.

The board discussed the possibility of raising fines on businesses who go against the county’s COVID-19 health order.

The proposed increase on fines was first brought up by Supervisor Karen Mitchoff, who said businesses should be fined between $10,000 – $20,000, and said “it’s time to bring the hammer down.”

It’s time the people “bring the hammer down” on these politicians.

That time was in early November.

LimeRidge Larry December 10, 2020 - 5:13 PM - 5:13 PM

I’m 100% in with Comrade Mitchoff.

Karen – when will we get our brownshirts issued.

I would also like to recommend we get a logo. Maybe something with a double S?

XJ December 10, 2020 - 8:16 PM - 8:16 PM

@Chuc-The problem is that the ballot box was stuffed by crooked politicians/outside influence.

These politicians are totally out of control.

Give Me Liberty December 10, 2020 - 9:10 PM - 9:10 PM

I wonder if “bring the hammer” is a direct quote from Mein Kampf…I feel like I recognize it.

addlepate December 10, 2020 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

We’re all in this together. Except that government officials get their full paychecks, and business owners are forced to close their business.

Together.

Just like the teachers. Full wages, 1/2 the work all from home while in your underwear drinking wine.

Anonymous December 10, 2020 - 2:16 PM - 2:16 PM

“Fair to everyone?” Then, open everything up.

Business owners are opening because they’re broke.

Comparing what your friends did in high school is a poor analogy. The people making the edicts are the very ones breaking them.

It’s easy to opine about fines when you’re making over $200,000/yr with benefits.

If I got fined, I’d go to court, and I wouldn’t pay. They’re unenforceable.

Merry Christmas, Karen!

Give Me Liberty December 10, 2020 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

Oh Anonymous,

Don’t you see? Your point is moot! This woman does NOT do her job for the love of money- but power! Pay her nothing but give her power and that’s payment enough!

Anonymous December 11, 2020 - 4:54 AM - 4:54 AM

You’ve made a great point, Give Me Liberty. Tyrants don’t always look like brown-shirted bullies. They often appear as schoolmarms ready to pounce on freedom. Karen fits the bill.

Oh, and I just read that she blocked a bunch of FB people because she couldn’t handle the heat. That’s what tyrants do—say anything they want, and shut others down who want the same privilege. The woman is in love with power.

Commonsensenor December 10, 2020 - 2:16 PM - 2:16 PM

Not even a minute in and a blatant lie. We “ALL” are NOT suffering the same. All politicians have been affected ZERO. In fact, some, like Gavin, have made millions more because of the pandemic.

If you are a business in Contra Costa, open your doors now. Do what you need to do to stay alive. NONE of these bogus fines will hold in court.

Winnie The Pooh December 10, 2020 - 7:50 PM - 7:50 PM

I’m with ya @Commonsensenor. Enough is enough already. Every job is essential. Just because they aren’t doctor’s or nurses doesn’t mean they aren’t essential. Everyone’s job is essential in there own way.

I immediately got an evil vibe from this woman the first time I saw her at a PH City Council Meeting. She has always come across to me as taking great joy in being mean and vindictive. Appears to be a real power trip for her.

If The Queen of Karens (Thanks @Bob! for the very accurate title!) runs again when her term is up, hopefully someone who has a pulse will run against her so I actually might have a non write in candidate to vote for.

Karen Mitchoff is a political grand stander who likes to bully (like her buddy Gioia) from the pulpit. If she doesn’t retire at the end of her term like she had previously promised to do when she was interested in being appointed temporary Clerk Recorder it is time for the voters of district 4 to step up and vote her out of office.

Tina L. December 10, 2020 - 3:08 PM - 3:08 PM

And how does Karen expect businesses to pay these fines? Even when were allowed to be open a $10,000 bill would wipe many out. Maybe Karen should donate her entire paycheck to any business that’s been forced to close.

Mom December 10, 2020 - 6:36 PM - 6:36 PM

Great point!!!

Googlar December 11, 2020 - 4:37 AM - 4:37 AM

You’ve got to understand that there is no such expectation. The expectation and hope is that the businesses will fail and the owners will die paving the way for megacorp takeover and financial enslavement.

Old Timer December 10, 2020 - 3:14 PM - 3:14 PM

What the hell do these Politicians think they are god’s.This blond bond shell is doing everything she can to hurt the business owners. She is laughing all the way to the bank with her fat pay check. The next restaurant she’s goes into the owner should throw her ass to the street.Did she forget she was put into office to help the citizens?

Tina L December 10, 2020 - 3:18 PM - 3:18 PM

In 2019, Karen Mitchoff had a reported pay of $121,295.05 according to open payrolls.com. It was 103.2% higher than the average for county employees.

Almost Famous December 10, 2020 - 3:28 PM - 3:28 PM

Someone like the Tax Collector should calculate the percentage of tax revenue that is being lost by instituting these restrictions. Once that is determined this percentage should be withheld from the Board of Supervisors individual monthly paycheck. Once this happens Karen Mitchoff can truly say that we are all suffering equally from this pandemic.

It gets better. She was a “fiscal analyst” at EHSD yet had zero clue how the county finance system works. And per 2 clerks that worked with her at EHSD she spent the better part of any given day with her office door closed playing on the computer and got angry if the clerks dared to bother her

This is the same woman who voted to RENEGE on the agreements made to other stakes holders in the development. of ContraCostaCentre. Her push turned the ownership stakes (condominium ownership) into more empty apartments. The condo’s that were eliminated would have been paying property taxes for the last 3 or 4 years instead of the empty apartments that occupy that space. Great Job Mitchie..

She sounds robotic which is true of a lot of bureaucrats these days. All by the book and no thinking of the consequence. These are the kinds of people who supported Stalin back in the day. Just take a look at the movie “Mr. Jones” which I mentioned elsewhere which is based on the true story of a journalist who traveled to the Soviet Union in the 1930s to expose Stalin. It’s available on Hulu if you have it or on other streaming services for rent. I know many people here will like the film and Eric Blair is characterized in the movie too. 😉

And, you are tired of people bitching.

You have forgotten who you work for.

The people are speaking to you and you are ignoring them.

It’s time for you to resign.

Please do so promptly.

From the video, it seems the Board thinks their decisions can control the virus. Do they really believe they can control a virus…any virus? If they do, then they’re sadly mistaken. The virus will remain with us forever, and it’s going to kill many more people. The Board, it’s decisions, or any other decision made by any of us, does not control natural selection. The virus s competing for existing just like we are. It’s going to take out the infirm.

Mom December 10, 2020 - 7:58 PM - 7:58 PM

I noticed that too. That leaves businesses in a hopeless place. Does the board understand we were to slow, not stop the spread? Do they accept people losing their livelihood? Do they get it???!

I hope you listened to the meeting because the people I was referring to who are bitching about not being to go to their church but others can go to a liquor store are the folks I was referring to. People can bitch away to me about their concerns, but they need to concentrate on facts and this isn’t a moral question about church v. liquor store, its about how long you are in one v. the other.

I know exactly who I work for: everyone, not just a few who don’t agree with my positions. I was elected to make difficult decisions, and that is what I am doing, and I recognize that many don’t agree with me, but I can tell you, many more do

I emailed Supervisor Mitchoff the following:

Dear Honorable Supervisor Mitchoff,

I am in complete agreement with your recent exclamation to “Bring the Hammer Down”. I saw this on a local blog called Claycord.com (the site by the way should be shut down if possible; it seemed like the folks there had many bad things to say about you and the other honorable supervisors).

I spoke with my neighbors and we are interested in forming a group who will “patrol” and look for businesses that are not following the orders. We will surveil them and capture video footage of them defying the orders. Who should we send the footage so that we can enforce these regulations?

Our group also thought it would be good to have a sort of uniform so that we can recognize each other as we go about our patrols. One guy had a really good idea and thought the a nice brown shirt would be the way to go. One of the creative ladies in the group came up with a very stunning logo. It can best be described as two entwined letter S. I think you will love it. We plan to send you your very own shirt with the logo patch as soon as our order from the shirt company comes in. Is there anyone else on your staff who would want one?

Let’s “Bring the Hammer Down” together on small businesses throughout our county.

addlepate December 10, 2020 - 7:50 PM - 7:50 PM

Hey, I’m in, Bro. Great idea. Let’s send them tons of brown shirts, a few at a time, then many, then 50, then 100’s. I can finance many brown-shirts for the BoS. I sincerely want to mock them. I have no idea how we can connect, but if CLAYCORD can make the connection off screen, I’m in. All of the Claycord businesses and business owners deserve our support. It’s time we subvert for our community.

Jimmy December 10, 2020 - 5:56 PM - 5:56 PM

The Rest of the Story;
Here’s how the conversation may have gone in the I.T. Directors office for the County yesterday.
“Hey Marc I just received a call from Supervisor Mitchoff’s office demanding that you have the link deleted to yesterdays Sups meeting. Should I call them back and tell them to call the Help Desk?”
“Oh no!!!
They hired me for this position.”
“We can’t just delete it. Just get a hold of one of our staff and have the link modified. And call her office back and tell them we are modifying it. Oh, never mind I better call her myself. I sure wish she hadn’t commented on Claycord”. “Yea, Marc, I sure wish she hadn’t commented at the meeting either”.
“And Marc who do I bill for the tech’s overtime?”
“Oh no, just send me the time spent and I’ll write it off to overhead”

How about increasing fines and prosecute reckless drivers!? I had three close calls today because many drivers out there don’t give a rat’s *** about who they hurt! These politicians should start by upholding actual laws but they are too ignorant to do their actual jobs.

She was moving around uncontrollably like she couldn’t control her anger talking about the fines. pretty bizarre behavior! She wants to increase fines on businesses that were forced to shut down earlier than what the State mandated? The state mandated when the ICU’s got to 85% capacity is when they have to start closing certain sectors down. Contra Costa County decided upon themselves to just shut down early causing even more frustration from businesses and customers. To fine a businesses that if it doesn’t stay open is going to have to declare bankruptcy isn’t a threat! That business is essential to the employees and owner! If we don’t take a stand this opens up the county to shutting down anything they want at anytime they want!

Will December 11, 2020 - 8:06 AM - 8:06 AM

I was going to send Comrade Karen an email but it is simply not worth trying to reason with unreasonable people. She clearly has neither the intellectual capacity nor the willingness to attempt to understand how the overreaction to the 99.7% survival rate virus is decimating small businesses across this state. There is only one way that people like Comrade Karen are going to be educated. I hope and pray we don’t get there but I am not optimistic it can be avoided any longer.

The biggest tell here is right up front, her lament that some businesses “continue to defy us” — not “defy the law”, but “defy *US*”. As though this power is hers to wield, and not placed in her trust. Dreadful.
