The Water Cooler – Newsom Administration Admits Outdoor Dining Is “Low Risk” – Should They Reopen Immediately?

On Tuesday, Governor Newsom’s administration said outdoor dining is “low risk,” and the decision to close outdoor dining in California was to get people to stay home.

QUESTION: Based on those comments, do you think outdoor dining should be allowed to immediately reopen? (with precautions)

Open them NOW! This is garbage science,

Chuckie’s Wife December 10, 2020 - 12:08 PM - 12:08 PM

These @&#%!! Politicians are so drunk with power, they no longer even try to govern with reason and restraint. They’re all f___ing dictators. Mitchoff wants to use a hammer on us and Gruesome Nuisance just can’t stop himself from acting as if he were emperor of CA. Time to vote these clowns out of office!

And to answer the WC question: Yes, restaurants should reopen immediately. As a matter of fact, restauranteurs should just go ahead and open up without waiting from an edict from on high.

When confronted with science, Newsom is speechless or clueless. And it appears that his integrity was surgically or chemically removed.

Now, to answer the question…open restaurants, Churches, everything. Let people make their own decisions, just like we now do with abortions and what people do in their own bedroom.

BTW- Heard through a friend in India that they are back to living life normally. That friend said that a few people have had the virus, but they aren’t seeing a health crisis there. Perhaps Gavin’s ‘cure’ is worse than the disease itself.

Joe December 10, 2020 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

Yes… open outdoor dining immediately.

I have zero trust in Newsom’s ability to make common sense decisions any longer.

Yes! We need to keep these businesses in business.

Sam L December 10, 2020 - 12:12 PM - 12:12 PM

Should reopen outdoor dining immediately! A week ago Newsom’s answer was there was a lot of evidence followed by a long answer that assumed the prior lock downs were a smashing success, but never gave any details supporting what was shutting down. Disappointed that didn’t give straight answer a week ago.

Will December 10, 2020 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

Not only should they open back up for outdoor dining, but indoor dining as well. If you can shop at Costco or Safeway you can eat or drink indoors in a bar or restaurant. This is and always has been about CONTROL, not a virus. Just ask ControlFreakKarenMitchoff…

Pete V. December 10, 2020 - 1:01 PM - 1:01 PM

Exactly…Will gets it. It is maddening that there are so many people who, while otherwise opposed to lockdowns, still accept the incrementalism of things like no indoor dining. Bu*****t, there is no reason why restaurants, movie theaters, and gyms shouldn’t be open for INDOOR patronage. And I don’t think there should be ANY mandated limitations other than the fire code..leave it up to the business owners and customers of free will to DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES.

Will December 10, 2020 - 1:55 PM - 1:55 PM

@Pete V –

That is why the statement put out by the Sheriff of Orange County is so good – talks about this is a personal choice issue, not a law enforcement issue. They’re not going to enforce Comrade Gavin’s latest tyrannical “order”.

I just read that restaurants in Danville are continuing to stay open and serve outdoor diners. That is what all the local communities need to be doing – Clayton, Concord if you have an outdoor patio or other outdoor seating, continue to serve diners outside! Much better than trying to exist on take out only. Ed, if you’re reading this you need to open both your places back up for outdoor dining. Under the Christmas lights, it’s the holidays FFS.

Never Enough December 10, 2020 - 12:16 PM - 12:16 PM

What is sad is with this weather they could stay afloat longer.

Only 2 states have closed both indoor and outdoor dining!

Chuq December 10, 2020 - 12:18 PM - 12:18 PM

Outdoor dining seems pretty safe (as long as you’re only dining with members of your household) – I imagine the dropping temperatures will be an issue for restaurants. It’s getting past the point where I will want to sit down outside for very long and will just rely on takeout.

Simonpure December 10, 2020 - 12:18 PM - 12:18 PM

Absolutely!!! These smaller businesses are dying off and that is very sobering.

I don’t say this lightly, but I believe that Gavin Newsom and his ilk are flat-out evil. Don’t know how they got that way, but they are.

Open hair salons too. I feel safer in a salon, among only a handful of people (six feet away) all wearing masks, than I do sitting in a restaurant amongst a couple of dozen (none wearing masks).

LET THEM OPEN !!!! These folks need to provide for their families and are barely scraping by….More and more lawsuits need to be filed along with Nail Salons, Beauty Salons and Barbers….Show us the science!!!!….DICTATORS all of them from the County to the State…..Government’s job is to protect our rights not our Health. We are responsible for our own health.

No science behind this closure!

This, like the decision to close playgrounds, surely shows signs that our elected folks are bipolar! Open up all our businesses that want to open or shackle We the People to our homes…

Michael December 10, 2020 - 2:09 PM - 2:09 PM

Yes. Business owners know if they do not abide by the health guidelines the press will make it known if they are a super spreader and the public will not patronize.

More’s the pity of the press. If they only printed real news.

Gyms should be essential. They are very important to maintaining health.

I would love to find a gym that is operating in defiance of the idiotic closure orders. I’d seen it posted that Fit 19 was open. I stopped by the one in Walnut Creek, and it’s locked up tight.

Outdoor dining is low-moderate risk , and so is grocery shopping. if we can grocery shop, we can outdoor dine.

The customers who outdoor dine are willing to take the risk, which is minimal. Open back up and let restaurants make money, and let people eat out.

Doh December 10, 2020 - 5:48 PM - 5:48 PM

Well if all types of activity is safe why are more people getting infected? Yesterday there were 3.124 deaths from COVID-19. Pearl Harbor was 2,402 and 9/11 was 2,977.

PESFG December 10, 2020 - 8:22 PM - 8:22 PM

Outdoor AND indoor dining should be open right now! Outdoor dining won’t be possible as the weather gets colder and we finally get some rain so indoor dining needs to be open too. Newscum dined indoors but he is preventing everyone from doing the same.

Dr. Jellyfinger December 11, 2020 - 8:10 AM - 8:10 AM

Well…. we sure are showing the Chinese the short way to defeat America in a war… biological warfare, and a very tame version at that, is working very effectively against our society of over reactive, hand wringing hypochondriacs.

A majority of us prefer to let our economy crumble, businesses fail and leave citizens sentenced to house arrest rather than allow our Fellow Americans (Land of the free, home of the brave?) to use their own adult judgement to either cautiously work and sustain us or hide at home from a virus that has a less than 1% mortality rate.

Mother of dragons December 11, 2020 - 8:58 AM - 8:58 AM

Anything outdoors should be allowed for sure!!!!!! All the money that these establishments have put in to tents and heaters and screens and everything they’ve done to separate and keep people safe. It’s unconscionable. The spread is coming from people indoors unmasked with family… Pure and simple. And it’s not going to stop, we need a vaccine!

Concord74 December 11, 2020 - 9:29 AM - 9:29 AM

Like the many posters voiced their comments that politicians get drunk with their power! One thing we should as a voting democracy is to vote them out of office! However, I seriously doubt that because this state (especially NCal!) have too many empty-headed Demo-leaning voters! In as much Pelosi is a LOSER, she is voted back into office. What does tell you??

Outdoor dining should have NEVER been closed!!

bdml December 11, 2020 - 10:40 AM - 10:40 AM

So this is all about control and not the science like we have all suspected for sometime…

Do you honestly believe the numbers that are reported? If so why? They have lied the whole time and changed the narrative to suit them…

I just wish they’d just make up their minds. Enough with the freaking yoyo, on-again-off-again, stuff. Logic and insight appears to be completely absent from their decision making.

Dee December 12, 2020 - 7:46 AM - 7:46 AM

Resteraunts should join together and collectively sue for damage for the owners and their employees. Punitive damages too should be awarded. Gavin Newsom has targeted various businesses in an effort to regulate and control the behaviors of others. Recall Gavin Newsom. Open our communities and restore our freedom of choice now. https://recallgavin2020.com/
