Surprisingly I have not received any.

Ricardoh October 28, 2020 - 12:06 PM - 12:06 PM

If we don’t recognize the name we block the number. This morning so far I got calls from three different states. Blocked them all, I don’t know if they are political or someone trying to sell me a vacuum cleaner.

Tim October 28, 2020 - 12:08 PM - 12:08 PM

Donald Trump phones me every day. Sounds like he’s desperate. I just hang up these annoying calls. Politicians are not included in the do not call list.

Noj October 28, 2020 - 12:11 PM - 12:11 PM

Haven’t received any political phone calls. The ones that irritate are the “you’re auto warranty is expired” calls. Geezus,I want to crawl through the phone and strangle someone. Been getting those for months now.

Dawg October 28, 2020 - 12:27 PM - 12:27 PM

They don’t bother me because I don’t get them, and the mailers go straight into the shredder. All the voting information I need is in the voter information pamphlet and if anything is missing I can check it out on the internet.

Just_My_Two_Cents October 28, 2020 - 12:32 PM - 12:32 PM

All solicitation calls bother me. I’m the one that pays for my service. It’s not for others to try to influence me in one way or another about anything. Lots of times I’m in the middle of something when the phone rings. I don’t appreciate it. I’m on the National Do Not Call List but they don’t pay attention to it (I’m not talking about the political calls because I know that they are exempt).

RANDOM TASK October 28, 2020 - 12:35 PM - 12:35 PM

yes
in this state the only reason they call is to push for your vote

i never get a call and have them say hey what do you need …not want …need

never …..

you politicians are supposed to be for the people as we deem you fit for office

now the recall of heir furor in crime
is being blocked by the hole that is the single party corruption of this state

from gov to judges and prosecutors and boards and councils and garbage and transportation all politically motivated to screw everyone while they get their cut of the pie from our taxes …….

your aware

JJ October 28, 2020 - 12:35 PM - 12:35 PM

Haven’t gotten any. Knock on wood.

Get lots of local political emails, though. Most are ending up in the spam folder.

Dorothy October 28, 2020 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

Not many and since they are recordings, who pays any attention to them? I just hang up as soon the pitch is started.

But it has been a relief not to get a ton of mailed politics. I guess even they don’t trust the mail.

Lo October 28, 2020 - 12:50 PM - 12:50 PM

I’d welcome one at this point… so much better than the damn squeaky voiced recording “Hi!! This is Emily, I’m calling about your auto warranty.” I’d like to rip out the voice box on that one…

The downside of having everything forwarded to my cell phone for work, can’t decipher if it is a client or a robocall until I’ve picked up. I’ve blocked nearly 100 numbers during WFH.

Block em October 28, 2020 - 12:54 PM - 12:54 PM

We have over 700 blocked calls at the moment. Political and Scam Calls.

Roz October 28, 2020 - 1:10 PM - 1:10 PM

We don’t pick up phone calls unless we know who’s calling. So if we had any, we don’t know since they just hang up.

Captain Bebops October 28, 2020 - 1:37 PM - 1:37 PM

Not so much phone calls but this election season text messages. It’s annoying because they’re calling my old landline number that I set up on an old smartphone and a $3 a month 30-minute plan. Before this election crap I was only getting about 20 minutes of calls or messages at the most. But this time it’s like they assume everyone has unlimited texting. So I have to enter STOP to shut each one of these groups down.

I was just reading just yesterday that the carriers set up rules for this and also some want to make it opt-in as now you have opt-out (that’s what the STOP text message is for). Yeah, I get charged for any text messages if my 30 minutes have been used up.

Gittyup October 29, 2020 - 6:25 AM - 6:25 AM

Politicians are so stupid they think we all live as well as they do with unlimited everything. Like why wouldn’t everybody NOT have subZero refrigerators and get their artisan ice cream by Federal Express, or order their organically pampered meat from a small farm in Marin or Sonoma, or have unlimited cellphone service. Their minimal brain capacity comes from living high on the hog at the expense of taxpayers that they literally bleed dry.

Justifiable languor October 29, 2020 - 8:04 AM - 8:04 AM

Gittyup: Yes. And they intend on keeping it that way. Take the Biden crime family. How long were they taking kick backs and laundering money? Xi, Putin. Who knows how many others? They thought it would go on forever.

Raise those taxes folks, it will never be enough.

Get Off My Lawn October 28, 2020 - 2:33 PM - 2:33 PM

I’m preferring the political text messages. Easier to send back colorful replies. Debora Allen from BART got a doozy. 🤣

Chris October 28, 2020 - 2:41 PM - 2:41 PM

I’m always amazed at the fools who answer their phones when the number is not recognized by the receiver. If you answer the phone from a # you don’t recognize, you deserve to be the next winner from a Nigerian Prince.

WC Resident October 28, 2020 - 4:32 PM - 4:32 PM

@Chris – AT&T charges $10.99 per month to for caller ID on land lines. Thus, many people with land lines don’t have caller ID.

Gittyup October 28, 2020 - 5:00 PM - 5:00 PM

@Chris Speaking of fools, your brain appears to be operating in a vacuum. Not everybody has caller ID or uses a cellphone. Duh!

Kentucky Derby October 29, 2020 - 9:16 AM - 9:16 AM

You can buy a phone that has caller ID, and caller ID will cost you nothing. Paying $10.99 a month or not having caller ID (with all the telemarketing scams) these days is foolish.

Captain Bebops October 29, 2020 - 10:32 AM - 10:32 AM

I have NoMoRobo on my mobile phone with the old landline number. That takes care of a lot of spam calls though I may not renew it when the subscription ends because my carrier is now identifying them too. I don’t pick up any calls on this phone either. Friends using using my old number to call can leave a message however most know my other number.

WC Resident October 29, 2020 - 11:01 AM - 11:01 AM

@Kentucky Derby – Not having caller-ID is not much of an issue. We don’t answer the phone and instead let it all go to the answering machine. 99% of the callers don’t leave a message. I can live with the “stress” of not knowing the fake phone number of the scammers that tried to reach me.

People maintain their land lines for a variety of reasons. I keep mine as it works when the power is out. Land lines are powered from phone company central offices. Phone company central offices have rooms full of batteries that can power the entire phone system and large generators that can keep the batteries charged. Part of the cost for a land line is maintaining those batteries and generator.

AT&T has been trying to get people off the land lines with one of the carrots being that a U-verse VoIP line comes with caller-ID for free. What they don’t tell you in the marketing spiel is that you then need to be responsible for buying and maintaining batteries to power your end. If you want to survive an extended power outage you also need to buy and maintain a generator. It’s still no guarantee. For example, the local neighborhood level U-verse box on the street had a small battery but no generator. If it’s a very local power outage then AT&T will position a truck with a generator there to power the U-verse connection. The trucks will not be available for a wide ranging power outage. The recent PSPS had power down in Lafayette/Orinda for 42 hours and much longer elsewhere. That’s deep into generator-needed territory. PSPS are no longer rare once in a decade events.

Bob Kazamakis October 28, 2020 - 2:57 PM - 2:57 PM

I’ve gotten a lot of text messages from political advocates. It’s really just annoying.

chuckie the troll October 28, 2020 - 3:06 PM - 3:06 PM

The phone calls automatically end up in the spam file. What I hate is the political text messages from the Teacher’s Union trying to tell me who to vote for.

foonman October 28, 2020 - 3:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Like most folks today, we just don’t answer the phone unless ID shows its someone we know….we keep a landline house phone for safety reasons but waiting for 10K blocking to come available.

PatB October 28, 2020 - 3:49 PM - 3:49 PM

I don’t pick up the phone if I don’t recognize the number, so no, I’m not bothered by political calls.

Original G October 28, 2020 - 4:16 PM - 4:16 PM

Never get them.

Gittyup October 28, 2020 - 4:56 PM - 4:56 PM

Yes, I find them irritating. I got one, and when I asked how the guy got my number as supporting his candidate, he had a complete meltdown. He then angrily requested a donation and I again asked how my number was associated with his candidate. He gave me a very sarcastic recitation of the “Have a nice day” greeting and hung up. I only answer the phone when I’m expecting a call, so most get the answering machine and not many leave a message. DeSaulnier started what sounded like a recorded message, so I lifted the receiver and hung up on it. He’s not allowed to take up my time when he’s been so rude and infantile to the President.

concord grape October 28, 2020 - 5:10 PM - 5:10 PM

Chris, this “fool” will answer local calls as a lot of them are from Doctor Offices. I still have the ability to hang up,

American Citizen October 28, 2020 - 6:29 PM - 6:29 PM

Only ones I get from the socialist Democratic party bother me. Hi welcome All communication from freedom Loving Americans and the Trump campaign!!

Gititogether October 28, 2020 - 6:59 PM - 6:59 PM

Would if I received any. I think that’s a landline thang and I done dropped mine about 10 years ago.

Aunt Barbara October 28, 2020 - 9:48 PM - 9:48 PM

The 7am I cloud, Apple and now Amazon terrorist scams bother me more.
I recognize the political scams and ignore them also, but at least they aren’t out to get your identity.
.

Randy October 29, 2020 - 5:59 AM - 5:59 AM

yes – very irritating… signing up for the “Do not call list” does nothing .. doesn’t work

Cellophane October 29, 2020 - 8:21 AM - 8:21 AM

I disconnected my home phone number and now only have a cell phone.

I set it up so that it answers only calls from people or companies on my contact list.

So far, this is working great.

I don’t care for unsolicited calls.

Singledout October 29, 2020 - 9:03 AM - 9:03 AM

Haven’t got a single political call yet. I don’t understand how so many people get so many political calls on their house phone or their cell phones it’s ridiculous when we get absolutely none between us and our kids.
Even if I did get a call I don’t answer it if it’s a number that doesn’t have caller ID or I don’t recognize.
Honestly I think anybody who answers a phone call with a number they don’t recognize or has caller ID blocked is clueless.

Sam Malone October 29, 2020 - 11:37 AM - 11:37 AM

Have phone block on and now have a special message to marketers and scammers that someone has they disconnect on their own. Imagine!

Gittyup October 29, 2020 - 2:47 PM - 2:47 PM

It’s the hang-up calls from the firing range that concern me.

Jacknife925 October 30, 2020 - 6:38 AM - 6:38 AM

I like getting the poll calls I just tell them I am Voting Blue. just like a California troll.
