Private health care providers operating within Contra Costa County must now provide timely COVID-19 tests to essential workers, those with symptoms and those exposed to the virus, according to a new health order released by Contra Costa Health Services.
The county has formally asked Kaiser Permanente, John Muir Health, Sutter Health and San Ramon Regional Medical Center to voluntarily adopt policies allowing anyone who asks to get a fast COVID-19 test, whether or not
they have symptoms.
The health order, which takes effect Oct. 8, reflects the growing need to test more people who live and work in Contra Costa County for COVID-19.
Last week, Contra Costa County Health Officer Dr. Chris Farnitano told the county Board of Supervisors that some health providers operating in Contra Costa have not been doing their share of COVID-19 tests. Farnitano and Supervisor John Gioia specifically cited Kaiser, which has the largest health plan enrollment in Contra Costa County.
Spokeswoman Kerri Leedy said Kaiser has been in compliance with state orders on testing in California, and is following the direction of the state Department of Public Health and the state Department of Managed Health Care on COVID-19 testing. Leedy, as well as John Muir Health spokesman Ben Drew, said those entities both acknowledge the need for more testing, and want to enable more testing.
About 2,300 people get tested every day in Contra Costa.
The county’s goal is to test about 4,500 people daily.

Aunt Barbara, not sure how testing will expose more to the virus. Kaiser has drive thru testing, as do many places. The testers wear masks & shields while the tester sits in their own car. I just got my drive thru flu shot so even getting that exposed me to nothing. Fastest most efficient flu shot I’ve ever received at Martinez Kaiser.
You might ask yourself why more Covid tests are being ordered? Well, it’s because, in the beginning of this hoax, only deaths were being reported. And since the death rate slowed, and quarantine cases were reduced, the hoaxers switched from the death count to “cases.” To keep the hoax alive, more tests are needed to continue the fear mongering. and to keep he number of “cases” growing (hint: more tests = more “cases.”) Meanwhile, in Florida, Gov. DeSantis has ended the scam, and opened the entire state back up. Not only that, but he has withdrawn ALL mask mandates and prohibited local officials from issuing citations and/or jail trerms for mask violators. Like some medical experts have said I’m betting that the virus has died out through the summer. Positives now are from a few who test positive due to some residual effect. The virus is not a hoax but it may not be anymore deadly than previous corona viruses. It just came in handy for declaring a “pandemic” to distract the public while the powers at be trashed the economic system in an attempt to replace it. I suspect in many cases those that died would have died anyway without the virus. That happens every year.

Ash, multiple Covid tests for the same person are not counted as multiples. It’s explained on the CDC webpage as to why the number of tests do not equal the number of positives and the number of negatives. If the numbers show 10 positive and 70 negative but 100 total it’s because there were 20 multiple tests. You will either believe this fact or not.

As long as we have a president who knows COVID-19 is deadly but won’t say so publicly and won’t tell everyone to wear a mask and still holds infection spreading rallies without masks we will have increased infections. If only we’d had any sort on national leadership back in December, January or February we would have been in a much better position to deal with this pandemic. But by his own admission, and with knowledge of the danger, the President downplayed it.
And here we are. And even if only half the current numbers who died from Coronovirus 19 alone, not counting any underlying condition, there are families and friends mourning their loss.

More negative tests would lower our numbers. Why are you complaining about expanded testing? You do understand that many people have lasting medical issues due to having Covid 19, it’s not only about the death rate.
This thing from the county about trying to increase the number of tests is to get the percentage down so that the county can get to better colors on that color coded thing the state has.
Getting tested does not prevent you from catching COVID-19. Getting tested does not cure COVID-19 if you have it. The health systems, including Kaiser, recognize this and so only test if there is a medical need for it. If you are showing symptoms that indicate it’s likely you have COVID-19 then the doctor will order a test for COVID-19 among other things. The purpose of the test is to see if you are contagious and if so to start the 14 day quarantine clock. That is pretty much the only valid reason to test for COVID-19. Because doctors are only testing when medically necessary it makes for a high positivity rate.
The state’s goalposts are arbitrary. They will not lower the prevalence of COVID-19 much less make it go away. They do not make our communities safer. County administrators should be pushing back at the state to get them to come up with a better system, such as re-opening the statewide economy with safeguards such as masks and social distancing in place. Instead of pushing back then are asking the health systems to do unnecessary testing. Memos were sent to many county employees this past week asking them to get a COVID-19 test every 30 days. The goal is to make the positivity number go down. This testing is unnecessary other than to satisfy an arbitrary set of goalposts.
If an organization needs to do survey screening to determine the prevalence of COVID-19 in a population then those survey screens need to be designed and developed by statisticians and epidemiologists if you want statistically valid results. You absolutely don’t want self-selected tests by sending public announcements asking people to get tested.
I think it’s funny how they “…’DEMAND”(s) accelerated actions…” when they are a part of a bureaucracy that is slow as molasses on a cold winter day.
