Gov. Newsom Signs Order Allowing Public Health Officials To Join Confidential Address Program

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order this week allowing public health officials to join the state’s confidential address program in response to threats and harassment they have faced during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The order allows local health officials and public health officers to join the state’s Safe at Home program, which is administered by the California Secretary of State’s office.

The program is generally used by reproductive health care workers and victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, human trafficking and elder abuse.

Program participants are given a substitute address at which they can receive their mail. The substitute address can also be used for city, county and state government business in lieu of a person’s actual residential
address.

“Our public health officers have all too often faced targeted harassment and stalking,” Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. “The Safe at Home program can help provide more peace of mind to the public health officials who have been on the frontlines of California’s COVID-19 response.”

Newsom’s order also authorized local governments to pause evictions of commercial tenants through March 31, 2021.

Commercial tenants were not included in the state’s Tenant Relief Act, which Newsom signed Aug. 31 and offers protections to renters who have been financially affected by the pandemic.

Sorry, but when do things that go against the will of the people, What do you expect?

You deserve whatever you’re getting. Too bad nobody has made a Citizens arrest.

Rob September 25, 2020 - 12:44 PM - 12:44 PM

No one wants a stay at home order. No one wants to be out of work. These precautions are necessary to stop the spread. Quit being a selfish idiot. You’re only making things worse and delaying the process of going “back to normal.” You are allergic to science, immune to irony, and have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

addlepate September 25, 2020 - 2:50 PM - 2:50 PM

Rob, YOU have no idea what you’re talking about. There is no consensus on the correct approach to COVID-19. Virologists that believe with certainty in one approach, are contradicted by virologists who believe, with just as much certainty, in a completely different approach. The CDC has changed their positions on numerous approaches. Mask? No mask? Mask-up only if you’re sick, said the CDC. Surgeon General Jerome Adams has flip-flopped regularly on precautions to take. Some say staying indoors makes things worse. Respirators save lives, and respirators have killed people. Comorbidities have killed 94% (per CDC), COVID alone only 6%. The list goes on. I say you don’t know what you’re about because no one, not a single person, is 100% certain and has been proven right. If there was someone with this gift it would be public knowledge by now. You, in no way, know that these precautions are necessary to stop the spread. Everything is just a guess, and yes, it appears to be going against the will of the people.

Don’t let us plebeians know where the unelected public health bureaucrats live…they might be held accountable for their tyrannical shutdown of the economy! The horror.

Commie Newsom and all his commie comrades can’t run and hide for much longer. The reckoning is coming.

I’m ashamed to call this man our Governor.

Cat'sMeow September 25, 2020 - 11:47 AM - 11:47 AM

Yep.
Can you imagine how happy his previous wife must be to have gotten away??? The current one must be quite dumb witted. And, since breeding seems to be causing a continual down-size in IQ, imagine how the spawn will turn out.

Aunt Barbara September 25, 2020 - 12:28 PM - 12:28 PM

He’s on a power hungry signing spree.

Terry September 25, 2020 - 6:55 PM - 6:55 PM

I agree, they want to control us. Way over done .

Jstlies1 September 26, 2020 - 11:18 PM - 11:18 PM

Cat’sMeow, yes, the first wife is happy as hell in the White House with Don Jr. and talking about how wonderful Trump is. LOL. Strange going from SF DA to the Trump train.

Sharon Dearing September 25, 2020 - 10:51 AM - 10:51 AM

I posted a comment earlier that said…this man is not fit to be our governor.
Was told my remark was being moderated. Guess freedom of speech doesn’t apply anymore.

Sam September 25, 2020 - 11:55 AM - 11:55 AM

You were not told that. You’re fibbing.

Cowellian September 25, 2020 - 12:23 PM - 12:23 PM

You do understand that ALL comments get moderated, don’t you?

nytemuvr September 25, 2020 - 12:38 PM - 12:38 PM

@Cowellian….They’re all related to the “an iota of maturity” family, impatient bunch they are!

HolyCow September 25, 2020 - 11:38 AM - 11:38 AM

I am so ashamed for the people leaving these comments. Public health officials do the best they can to keep the public safe, they’re met with threats to themselves and to your families, and you all are OK with that? Disgusting.

Sawyer September 25, 2020 - 11:39 AM - 11:39 AM

Everyone should be able to participate in this program. Everyone should be able to keep their home address confidential. Why can’t us regular people have this?

Barbara Murphree September 25, 2020 - 11:41 AM - 11:41 AM

ThankYou, Governor Newsom for protecting our Public Health Officials in these times with the Safe at Home program. Keep up the good work. You are doing a great job.

Mother Newsom?

AnimalLover September 25, 2020 - 11:43 AM - 11:43 AM

Are governors, and other public officials, required to be drug tested?
I wonder because this ongoing issue must be caused by more than just keeping one’s head up one’s *** .

Aunt Barbara September 25, 2020 - 12:31 PM - 12:31 PM

With the “www” being what it is today, I doubt this will have much effect.

My fellow Grammarians In this case… affect??? effect????:

Sam September 25, 2020 - 11:54 AM - 11:54 AM

Never thought I would see the day my government would arrest people for singing and going to church. This is persecution.
This is an all out attack on humanity, and the people doing it want to hide. Big surprise from a state with so much mail in voter fraud being exposed lately

Kirkwood September 25, 2020 - 12:57 PM - 12:57 PM

It’s to protect people from themselves – and the taxpayer. Somebody sings in your face and you find yourself or grandma on a ventilator – on my nickel.

Sam September 25, 2020 - 3:03 PM - 3:03 PM

Gee I had know idea..sure appears to be a full on marxist assault on religion. Thanks for cleaning that up. The government shall make no laws regarding religious establishments. What part of that is unclear? Probably the same part as “shall not be infringed.” I know, I know living breathing document 🤣🤡

Cyn September 25, 2020 - 4:12 PM - 4:12 PM

@Kirkwood
Bullsh!t. Anyone wanting that kind of protection WON’T BE THERE.

addlepate September 25, 2020 - 5:25 PM - 5:25 PM

Sam, I agree with what you’re saying, but…

It’s “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”, meaning the Congress cannot make any laws making any religion(s) the official national religion. The sentence continues, and I believe this is more to your point, “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”…

A point could be made that the government has indeed not made any laws infringing on these rights because these are health department “directives”. They’re doing an end-around instead.

If, or when, it comes out via FOIA requests that the DNC colluded, i.e. to work together secretly especially in order to do something dishonest, to mandate the large gathering shutdown to counter the huge Trump rallies in this election year, the S will hit the fan.

Sam September 25, 2020 - 8:37 PM - 8:37 PM

So I think we agree mostly. Your point is that congress is not making these laws and in fact they are not “laws”..fair enough. Not sure your interpretation on the meaning is accurate. No law respecting an establishment of religion means just that, no law. Has nothing to do with a national religion. That’s why indians can legally smoke peyote. Or the church of cannabis was able to operate legally for decades.

Yes the S is gonna hit the fan when everyone understands this virus is about the election and Donald Trump.

I’m not any type of public official and sometimes I wish that MY information wasn’t out there available for anyone to see. If I were a public official I KNOW I’d want to be able to be incognito as much as possible!!

Kirkwood September 25, 2020 - 12:41 PM - 12:41 PM

I think public and elected officials, legal and law enforcement and their families, have the right to live in peace while off the clock. As for those complaining about their personal situations, remember you chose the field of business or employment you are in, and all that entails including the pitfalls.
The needs of the many trump the needs of the few.

JRocks September 25, 2020 - 3:25 PM - 3:25 PM

Kirkwood. You couldn’t be more wrong. In our great republic the needs of the few are equal, and some cases out weigh the needs of the many.
Crack a book or better yet read the Constitution.

Sam September 25, 2020 - 4:34 PM - 4:34 PM

Germany too had citizens, against their own interest, protecting their oppressors thinking it would keep them safe. Funny how history repeats.

Tomato Girl September 25, 2020 - 3:04 PM - 3:04 PM

Boy there sure is a lot of virtue signaling on this thread. Grab your fear masks folks, be one with the hive. I especially love it when progressives lecture us on not getting the right job or corrections in our grammar. Newsom is signing as much as he can before he’s recalled. Clock is ticking progressives, better get ready for his removal.

Tugboat September 25, 2020 - 3:15 PM - 3:15 PM

Well, there you have it. We have a one party system in California. Now are leaders want no dissent or criticism, and certainly no protests anywhere near where they live. However, it is ok for the rest of us pee-on’s.
We want accountability and they want to hide.
Time to wake up folks.

Obamavirus September 25, 2020 - 4:27 PM - 4:27 PM

Seems like “calamari” Harris is already in hiding
Where is she? Are we going to be blessed with her appearance soon?
She has been an MIA senator since day 1

Cyn September 25, 2020 - 5:29 PM - 5:29 PM

@Obamavirus
Please don’t call Harris that. Calamari is delicious…….she is rotten.

Rico September 25, 2020 - 9:43 PM - 9:43 PM

Why not let anybody participate in this private address program? People are getting doxxed and harassed and threatened by extremists who disagree with them and are trying to intimidate them into being quiet.

HappyPappy September 27, 2020 - 9:46 AM - 9:46 AM

Sounds more like cats sharing a sandbox; one craps while another covers it up.
