Where were the mental health crisis counselors???
It is indeed a grave concern how easy it is for mentally unstable individuals to purchase firearms.
Baron,
Why do crazy people get to legally buy AK-47s when no one else can?
Crazy don’t usually purchase any firearms. They steal them or acquire them illegally. And don’t start with that gun show loophole garbage either cuz that is just a myth.
@Baron:
Where in the story is there any information about the individual purchasing the firearm, legally or otherwise?
Baron & Cowellian,
You two should get a room together!
Absolutely brilliantly thought out responses.
Thanks for playing, 1791. I’m glad you enjoyed that.
But AK-47s are illegal in CA.
Ha!
No it’s not. CA doesn’t even know the difference between guns.
Dang just like meth and murder. Better legalize them because they appear sometimes anyway.
Dang, if we’d just make all guns illegal they’d disappear.
Dang it’s like laws aren’t a physical barrier, but rather a deterrent of consequences for poor decision making.
Going to need A LOT more info than just that. My children. were walking out there earlier today.
What more info could you possibly want? Crazy guy apprehended, shows over.
How did the conversation drop down to an AK 47. The guy was caught no one hurt move on.
emotional distress is not mental illness
Well said!
Fortunately none of these officers were forced to participate in a suicide by cop.
Shooter was most likely not black.
First thought as well. I’d like to know more about the PME volunteer that went home, armed himself and was going to the scene.
Black people don’t commit suicide?
Thank goodness no officers were hurt. 🙏🏻
It’s disturbing the amount of people who have committed suicide or attempted suicide since the shutdown. John Muir Hospital saw a year’s worth in the first four months. My husband personally knew three people who took their own lives during this time.
Why is it disturbing? I don’t consider it disturbing at all.
Yep, those physicians at John Muir are only front line workers, only seeing the day to day carnage coming into the hospital. Not informed like the media and PR toadies working off site in office buildings.
holy crap! 2020 keeps bringing the hits.
There apparently was additional police activity as a neighbor in the area started wandering around with a gun to “protect the neighborhood.”
From Lime Ridge around the same time I could see a fire that looked like it was in the same area as Pleasant Hill Elementary. It was large enough that although I was about four miles away I could see flames at times. I could not tell if it was a structure or vehicle fire. There was quite a bit of smoke.
That was probably my friend, a former CoCo Sgt. He takes care of his neighbors.

Tomorrows headlines shows he died of Covid.
This misinformed arrogant selfish attitude is why our economy will never recover. Living in denial is literally killing people.
@Me:
Do you believe that all COVID deaths are due to COVID? People afraid to venture out of their homes are killing the economy as well.
@Commonsensenor,
I know you’re half joking about the COVID thing but, all joking aside, this really will be counted as a school shooting by the many organizations who would like to see you deprived of your Second Amendment rights, even though school wasn’t in session and the shooting was not related to the school in any way.
@Chicken Little:
True that.
Thank you PHPD.
There is a very famous case in law called Kortum vs Alkire, Kortum was a young burglary suspect, who was fleeing PHPD, and was shot and killed. The Kortum family sued the mayor of Pleasant Hill, James Alkire, insisting that excessive force had been applied. The case went all the way to the supreme court and was decided in favor of Pleasant Hill’s mayor. It is one of most cited cases in law, when referring to the excessive use of force by police.
Another excellent outcome by Pleasant Hill’s finest.
You are appreciated and loved! xo
Agreed. I’ve lived in P-hill for 18 years now, and have had nothing but good interactions with the police. And they don’t over-police, with chicken-s tickets for stupid stuff. Thanks to the P-hill PD for everything they do.
So unpopular comment here probably, I took my daughter for a walk through there yesterday and I could feel a really bad presence. I usually don’t give in to these feelings or thoughts but we most certainly booked it as soon as we got there.
Hogwash… you’ve been looking in your crystal ball too much …
Good call. I was out walking yesterday, too, and chose to avoid an area for similar reasons.
We have gut feelings for a reason…
You CAN smell trouble, if really alert…. nature’s protection:)
@M
Amen!
and thank you all LE for protecting us
🤠and why people want to de fund police just blows my mind, , I’m glad no officers were hurt, We need them more than ever. Kudos to the PHPD , btw just so you know, just because a criminal has a firearm that doesn’t mean he went through the same process as the rest of us, “criminals” don’t play by the rules like civil people, hence the name criminal,
Because “Defund the Police” is a really misunderstood and was named dumbly which causes confusion. It’s really reallocate police or limit an officer’s role. We are currently asking officers to do multiple jobs with limited training. We are asking them to be law enforcement, medical first responders, counselors, social workers, and school mentors. Yet, we only expect them to have a high school diploma and an average of 13 to 19 weeks at the academy. According to a report from the DOJ, recruits spend 110 hours in self defense and firearm training, they spend 8 hours on mediation and conflict management.
We either get these officers the training that they desperately need or we do the sane thing and do what other countries have done, partnering them up with other resources. Is it really necessary for an officer to be dispatched due to a neighbor complaining about loud music?
Nobody sane wants to get rid of the police. There are those that do call for the complete removal of officers (It’s funny that libertarians are suddenly against this idea when a few years ago I heard the same thing from their group). Most people want accountability, deescalation vs the current escalation tactics, and better training for our officers. A bonus would be bringing on specialists to accompany or relieve the workload where an officer wouldn’t be necessary.
This isn’t saying that you send a social worker in lieu of an officer to a dangerous situation like someone armed with a gun. However, you can still bring along the social worker to try to mediate a safe surrender with the understanding that the officer is there to protect the public and themselves.
Back to this situation, if things happened the way they did. The officers really wouldn’t have been able to do anything. This is a mentally disturbed person that didn’t give a chance to be talked to. The question at hand is how did a mentally unstable person get his firearm? I’m a firm believer in the second amendment but see nothing wrong with background checks and keeping firearms out of the hands of unstable people.
@Pyrrhus
Well said. I agree with you 100%.
Pyrrhus is only partly right. There really are people out there who are trying to get rid of the police.
“I’m a firm believer in the second amendment but see nothing wrong with background checks and keeping firearms out of the hands of unstable people.”
Already federal law.
Thank you for your excellent comments Aunt Barbara & Justin.
So thankful for our LEO’s for all that they do every single day.
Never mind the gun, I wanna know where he found the ammo?
That is the real question!!! It is sold out everywhere!!!
Where he found the ammo? You go to any gun store and buy ammo or if you don’t want to get on the DOJ list of buying ammo in Ca you go over to Nevada and buy it no questions asked.
and just because somebody has a rifle and is trying to commit suicide and shooting at police they’re considered mentally unstable? I disagree with that statement.
@Singledout: Not sure what part of the state you live in. Ammo is literally sold out everywhere. I guess you have not been to a gun shop anytime recently. besides the off calipers, the major calipers are either sold out or have increased in price 9 to 10 times over.
Yeah, because incivility was non-existent before Trump was elected.
Defund Law Enforcement let’s get real people. Why does anyone with a bit of common sense left unable to see the criminals are running the system so that the left, socialist and entitlement crowd can continue to garner votes?? Bloomberg has given untold amounts to criminals so they can pay off their fines so they can vote.
And while I am on my blood pressure lowering rant. . . The family that was awarded the $4M due to the death of their son-when they called the WC police for help-hopefully it did not slip past anyone that Burris and his team retained 33% to possibly 50% of the settlement.
I would appear to really care about everyone if I (an ambulance chasing lawyer) was able to make that kind of money also. Before you say it, he may waive some of his fees but he deducts it as a charitable donation against what he does take in.
Why isn’t Burris in Prison for his racist scams?
Inquiring minds need to know!
John Burris is pure evil.
Huge thanks for all law enforcement, we need them.
Glad no one was hurt
And the suspect could not even manage a successful suicide……….

He probably couldn’t find any ammo. And if he could find it, he couldn’t afford it.
Legal firearm or not, the first thing that ran through my mind was, “Is this what we are looking forward to?” “People not thinking twice about firing on police officers?” Then the subsequent 2nd person of interest that turned out to be a concerned citizen that put himself in harms way. The only thing that I could think of was “I hope this is not what we are looking at as the new normal”. I was waiting for the maskers to ask “I hope he was wearing a mask”. Yea folks there is nothing normal anymore…..and if this is the new normal, California is going to have mass exodus.
…if anyone is in need of ammo now, you’re kind of late. Obama convinced me to buy a lifetimes worth so it isn’t a concern now. Good luck…
You and me both! Between Obama and Newscum it was a no brainer to stock up before the ammo buying laws went into effect.
My UPS guy got tired of delivering 50lb boxes from Cabelas in Reno.
You can easily still legally buy ammo in Ca it hasn’t disappeared.
Ammo is almost impossible to find. And when you do it’s exorbitantly priced. A case of 556 is $700. I’m seeing cases of 9 mm for $1,000. I’m glad I bought everything I needed years ago. Many of us saw this coming long ago. Keep your head on a swivel and your powder dry.
@American Citizen….I can’t find any powder(or primers) to keep dry to “roll my own”. Luckily I’m stocked up with what I need.
Given how many times we see police statements turn out to be wrong of just plain lies…
Why do people still report police saying something as if it were fact?
The word “allege” should be used until proof is provided beyond simply what cops say.
And “witnesses” and onlookers never lie or get anything wrong.
Perhaps this is where the new idea of dispatching special guidance counselors would be helpful. They could have given him a bagel, and suggested he stick closer to church oriented social activities.
