With the spirit of patriotism, we celebrate the freedom and unity that our nation stands for. Today is a day we should remember all those who have fought for our independence, and that we are a courageous nation.

Stay away from downtown in a car the police shut down the road so ridiculously with no detour signs or rhyme or reason it literally will take you half an hour just to drive around downtown trying to get out

Why is it that SF can have a month of celebrations and a pride parade but can’t have a parade for the 4th of July? Something is terribly wrong with their priorities!

It’s a sad state of affairs when a city that size won’t get enough patriots together for a parade……that they’re just not interested. Yes, that city’s priorities are definitely out of whack.

San Francisco doesn’t have a July 4th parade because it chooses instead to celebrate by hosting an extremely large fireworks show that is attended by tens of thousands from the Bay Area and beyond and requires all the city’s resources to prepare for the event and maintain public safety. It would be a very difficult task to host both the fireworks and a parade which would require the near impossible task of closing completely different streets for both events while maintaining some level of street access for those driving in and parking.

People know all about the extremely large fireworks display attended by tens of thousands from the Bay Area and beyond. (You sound like Buzz Lightyear.) The parade could be in the morning with the fireworks at night.
SF always comes up with necessary resources when they want something badly enough, and they don’t care about public safety. So what’s the problem?

I lived in SF for a long time and as is still the case, the grand July 4th celebration takes place at the Golden Gate Park Bandshell for a 4th extravaganza with 1 1/2 -2 hours of traditional patriotic music with a conductor and military bands….much like you’d see in DC. If that’s not good enough for you that’s too bad. By the way do you even live in SF? If not it shouldn’t matter to you. Happy 4th!

Not sure if you’re addressing me or “1776”, but neither of us mentioned bands. And like you, I do not live in SF; however, I do live in California and what happens in my state DOES matter to me. Happy 4th to you, too!

The start of such an important document, celebrated appropriately on such an important date.

Enjoy your Independence. I have fond memories of marching in Concord and Clayton Fourth of July parades with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. This year, I got to watch video of my granddaughters marching with the Cub Scouts.

God bless all the living and dead service personnel that made this county great. You currently see a disruption on how this country is now, but at the core, they will never take our county. Too many of us to stand in their way. God Bless America!!!!

My best memories of the 4th of July go back to the late 50s/60s watching the fireworks at Mt. Diablo High School. My extended family sitting on quilts near the football field, eating fried chicken sandwiches, drinking lemonade and watching the fireworks. Afterwards it was back home for home-made ice cream. Most of those relatives are gone now and sorely missed, Concord was a great place to grow up.
