Out of the 56 who died at the long term facilities, how are staff treating residents, sanitation, wellness, etc? Did they have any violations? I have a friend who is a caregiver at long term facilities and she has told me many stories on how she had to report facilities to the County due to not keeping on on cleanliness, wellness, rot, mold, etc. When the deaths happened at the Orinda facility, I read the reviews and the majority were bad. Lastly, what did the residents have underlying health issues? There’s a lot of unanswered questions.

At this point it’s a little late to ask about the conditions in the facilities with deaths. Can only assume that they will be getting many more inspections in the future.
Everyone in a long time care facility has underlying medical conditions that put them at high risk. Just look at the data across the entire state.

Rather grim…
“A nurse did not wash his hands before inserting a resident’s gastrointestinal tube.”

The majority of the residents at long term care facilities don’t have a choice. Family members choose to keep them in their when knowing the quality of life is unspeakable. These patients are bedridden and unable to care for basic needs and are hanging on barley. And you wonder why Covid 19 effects them more than any other age group. Selfish family members benefit from this by receiving money for the care they are receiving, but know one wats to admit it. Why else would you keep them in a semi vegetative state.?

Aunt Barbara, there are no nursing or assisted living facilities in Rossmoor. Its a gated community for those age 55 and up.

The elephant in the room. This is the truth.

COVID-19 fatalities in the dashboard below include deaths that were reported by facilities to the best of their knowledge. These include deaths that occurred at nursing homes and those that occurred in other locations, such as a hospital or private home, if the death occurred within the 14-day bed hold period after the resident transferred from the SNF. Deaths that occurred outside of this 14-day period may not be captured. Some of these deaths may include residents who had COVID-19, but died of something else.

Given these complexities, fatality totals may not exactly match other data sources or, in some instances, the death may be double counted in more than one data source such as county-level fatality totals.
(The above was taken straight from California Department of Health-Skilled Nursing Facilities Covid-19 dashboard page)…

There could be communication problems. Both of my parents have each been in assisted living and convalescent hospitals (4). I observed that most or all of the service staff in those facilities were in every case, from an island nation and many spoke little or no English. There often was few if any in-house technical or professional personnel on duty, especially at night.

Sadly, it is difficult to find people to work at assisted care facilities.
They don’t get city or county salaries with pensions.

I try to give cash gifts to employees at my mother’s senior housing, but they are told they will be reprimanded if they take it.

Please stop harassing employees whose career choice is helping others.

Where are the stats of how many people have died in Contra Costa County cities, by city/zip code and not just the overall county totals?
Located health department websites in many/most other regions of the state that report deaths by city and by zip code. Contacted the CCC department of health twice with this questions and, of course, no reply. Duh.

Numbers are going up rapidly and people want to keep going out and risk the BS, stalk up on toilet paper I feel another shelter in place on the way!

When you set up testing facilities and strongly encourage people to go get tested, you have to expect a spike in cases, but that doesn’t mean they are new cases.

“… 56 Of 81 Deaths Have Been In Long-Term Care Facilities”

newsom’s care of our elderly should not be forgotten on this day. “Newsom’s revised budget proposed to “initiate the closure” of the Veterans Home of California-Barstow and a one-year delay for realignment at VHC-Chula Vista and Yountville.”
from Victorville Daily Press

World health organization was publicly stating in third week of April, 50% of European deaths were in nursing homes.

Mercury News editorial April 23, 2020, “Editorial: Newsom must end cover-up of COVID-19 nursing home deaths”

In early May according to Mercury News editorial May 6, 2020 stated, “The governor last week issued an offer to pay, in some cases $1,000 per day, to assisted living facilities to house COVID-19 patients.” …

The Fearless Spectator July 4, 2020 - 5:45 PM - 5:45 PM

Recall Newsom. His empathic skills are quite selective.

WC Resident July 5, 2020 - 11:57 AM - 11:57 AM

There is very little we can do about nursing home deaths. The residents tend to be there because they are at extreme risk of complications for respiratory illness. Normally for the flu a vaccine is available and required for all staff and strongly recommended for all residents and their immediate family members. There is no vaccine available for COVID-19.

60% of those infected with COVID-19 either show no symptoms at all or have so few that the victims don’t realize they have COVID-19. Many of these won’t trip temperature checks. Our only tools are wearing masks and to continuously be very aware and careful of what we touch and to keep disinfecting potentially contaminated surfaces. Neither of those is 100% effective meaning at times enough of the virus will get transferred to a resident that they become infected.

You are going to cite a Bulgarian pathologist as your source of information over the Surgeon General and CDC?

YOLLY July 5, 2020 - 1:51 AM - 1:51 AM

We need to develop better critical thinking skills and show a little more caution with the articles we post and re-post online. Call me crazy but…after what happened with Russian interference in 2016 election, I’m always questioning the source, if it’s written as an opinion, and the intent etc. I suggest you do the same.

concord grape July 4, 2020 - 3:40 PM - 3:40 PM

TraumaRX, can you explain the comment”….selfish family members benefit from this by receiving money for the care they are receiving….” ?

FPN July 4, 2020 - 3:43 PM - 3:43 PM

I am not a conspiracy type of person but I dont know anyone who has had the virus. No one I have ran into while out and about knows anyone who has had the virus. What gives?

Jared July 4, 2020 - 5:48 PM - 5:48 PM

I know three who are currently sick, one who was asymptomatic. NorCal hasn’t seen its true face yet, but judging from comments we will soon.

I work in a hospital in Walnut Creek. I know of 14 at the moment. Dare you to come visit and see for yourself!

“56 Of 81 Deaths Have Been In Long-Term Care Facilities” This is the progressive Democrats way of cutting Medicare without having to legislate and make a lot of enemies. It goes along with their “do nothing” agenda. By doing noting to protect those in congregate living, they thin the numbers on Medicare and Medicaid. It’s negligence pure and simple.

Paul Barnes July 4, 2020 - 9:29 PM - 9:29 PM

Only 990 active cases….990….less than 1 percent of the population…The whole thing has become a political power grab and a tool of societal control.

Cellophane July 5, 2020 - 7:54 AM - 7:54 AM

I trust gas station sushi more than these inflated coronavirus numbers.

Concord Resident July 6, 2020 - 7:48 AM - 7:48 AM

Jenna, do you have more information (basic not individual) about the 14 at your hospital? Were they all admitted solely due to the virus alone? Were any admitted for other reasons initially?
