Frustrated June 30, 2020 at 1:10 PM

Yes because some people refuse to take simple steps to help insure their health and health of others. It’s not rocket science.. the sooner everyone wears a mask when unable to social distance and stay away from large crowds, the sooner things will open

RTC June 30, 2020 at 1:41 PM

Agree with you!!

Boycott The Circus June 30, 2020 at 1:47 PM

And why does it bother you if someone doesn’t care about there own health? It’s there body there choice and IF you are doing what you should be doing, ex: wearing a mask and washing your hands, then why are people like you so dang worried? What do people like you want/expect? For every single person to wear a mask 24.7? LOL. That’s like me asking for drivers to slow down in residential neighborhoods. Sorry but it isn’t going to happen. Like I keep saying, I like how people like you keep blaming those who don’t wear a mask but aren’t blaming the rioters and looters that pretty much put us in this mess!

JazzMan June 30, 2020 at 1:51 PM

Yeah, what he said!

LL Cool J June 30, 2020 at 1:55 PM

The masks don’t stop the virus.
They have increased testing 100 fold now that the rioting has subsided.
More testing means more cases.
The are counting tests, not cases.
The tests have been proven faulty.
Some people get two tests on the same day, one + and one -.
Some nurses have turned in empty (unused tests) and they came back positive.
All for a virus with a 99+% survival rate.
You are being played.

Jenn June 30, 2020 at 3:04 PM

100% agreed Frustrated. @Boycott, because it is not only your own health, it is the health of others.

wipe June 30, 2020 at 3:34 PM

LL Cool J you write “Some nurses have turned in empty (unused tests) and they came back positive.” Please document your sources for this information.

Rod Barton June 30, 2020 at 4:51 PM

It is negligence that is responsible for the spread of this virus. Other countries have taken the pandemic seriously while we haven’t. That is why your precious outdoor activities might be shut down long term. Forget about going to the park or even for outdoor dining. Predictions are showing the second wave hitting the US harder than any other country in the world. That is the reality.
The rioters who protested by taking to the streets during this pandemic are responsible for the spread but so are those obese people who went to pool parties and beaches last month.

Ilovepopcorn July 1, 2020 at 2:00 AM

You are 100 percent correct. That is so simple. To follow the mandatory rules. Wear your mask, etc!! If I wear my mask I am protecting you and when you wear your mask you are protecting me. This virus is very infectious so we all are in it together. You can’t blame the rules!

LL Cool J July 1, 2020 at 10:44 AM

I lost the source but I believe they will be whistleblower status, so either it will come out (like Erin Marie Oszlewski (spelling?) and the other nurses who are whistleblowing about the public hospitals in NY blowing out patients on vents and killing them and putting non-COVID in with COVID patients and infecting them, then blowing them out on vents – that is why the death toll was so high in those hospitals). OR it will be covered up (like William Thompson, the CDC scientist who admitted that they threw out/withheld statistically important proof that black baby boys had a 300% increase in autism after receiving the MMR.)

There’s some red pill for you.You won’t hear anything about this stuff on mainstream news. You have to go elsewhere. Start searching.

And, wake up, everybody.

keath woods June 30, 2020 at 1:10 PM

No not at all, we as humans need to get out and spend time with others. If they don’t let these small Business open up they wont survive and then we will have lots of people without jobs. They claim that the uptick in covid 19 is from bars NOT, they have only been open for about a week. I think it’s from all of the protesters and rioters.

Boycott The Circus June 30, 2020 at 1:51 PM

Absolutely agree! We have barely opened up so how could that be the reason for the spike? These humans want to blame it on people who aren’t wearing masks when in reality it was all the rioters and looters!

Ilovepopcorn June 30, 2020 at 8:40 PM

It is my understanding the virus lives in certain people and is very infectious. It travels well in family gatherings, rest homes, bars, groups like protesters not wearing masks. The more people have to exhibit their personal rights by not following the mandates the more they destroy their health and others. The truth is our numbers prove our arrogance and ignorance is going to kill us both financially and physically. Pathetic.

OverWhelmed July 1, 2020 at 1:46 PM

The truth of the matter is, that 95% of thos infected do recover with NO adverse effects. The other 5% that do not recover are those that are 80+ years of age and have compromised immune systems. Out of that 5% only .01 will die. The rest will recover. This comes directly from what has been posting directly from the CDC and the WHO. If you have a problem with people not wearing masks and wanting to live their life, then stay sequestered in your home, with your mask on, and be safe.

Exit 12A June 30, 2020 at 1:20 PM

Let the Wuhan virus take its course.

Chicken Little June 30, 2020 at 5:07 PM

@Exit 12A,
Which is it? Should we continue to cower in place, or let the Wuhan virus run its course?

ConcordRez June 30, 2020 at 1:25 PM

I do support the move. All the government docs tell us that the only things we can do right now to slow this are to stay home and, if we don’t, wear a mak and “social distance.” Some people were not able to do that, for one reason or another, so the rest of us are exposed to it. I’m disappointed that my nail salon can’t open, tho. My fingernails have been “under wrap” for 50 years so the brittle ends make it difficult to do some tasks. That slight difficulty is worth it if we can all get well.

Dawg June 30, 2020 at 1:34 PM

As far as COVID-19 goes, the only thing I agree with is to wash your hands before touching your face. Everything else is control, they want to control the way we think, and they way we behave. I see it everyday, do as I say, not as I do. They have taken away our God given rights and handed them back to us as privileges, and it saddens me to see so many people sit by and let it happen, believing it’s all for the good. They have the gullible in a panic, buying up all the paper products and certain food items.
People have lost their livelihoods, some are losing their homes. The so called experts don’t have anything to loose, they are wealthy and live in gated communities. I don’t care what anybody says, wearing a cheap mask does not prevent the spread of the virus. I simply don’t believe it.

Saving Lives July 1, 2020 at 9:47 AM

You are correct, a cheap mask does not prevent the spread, but it does help minimize the spread. Think of it as second hand smoke. If anything, wear it out of respect for the front line works who are putting their lives, and the lives of their families, on the line.

100% agree I support CCC decision to delay the reopening. Just look at high rises number of cases. I felt bad for the hospitals, doctors, nurses, EMT and 🙅 to list.

Ann June 30, 2020 at 2:12 PM

Concordjet Hospital rates are down so are death rates the young have it Most likely do to all the allowed protesting Keep enjoying your retirement privilege!

The Masked (and gloved) Poster June 30, 2020 at 2:43 PM

I see the defiance about wearing a mask in the same light as those who absolutely refused to wear a seat belt, many years ago. And I was one of them, but after paying a couple fines for not wearing a seat belt, I’ve joined the masses and don’t even think about buckling up anymore; I just do it. Let a few of these nay sayers get sick with the virus, and see how soon they change their tune.

Sam June 30, 2020 at 2:50 PM

SF oh June 30, 2020 at 3:04 PM

NO!!! Open everything now.

Rod Barton June 30, 2020 at 2:07 PM

Amazing how we are one of the only countries which has seen an uptick during this pandemic, even after several months of sheltering in place.
Just goes to show you that many are not taking this virus seriously at all.
And the projections for our country is for the pandemic to skyrocket during the summer months.
Get you act together and wear those masks, people!

Justifiable languor June 30, 2020 at 5:05 PM

Other countries have control over their borders.

Rob June 30, 2020 at 2:07 PM

Yes, 100%

The decision is really in the hands of the public.

Do what is needed to help protect yourself and others.

Or, do whatever you want.

Not enough people are responsible adults – so – you lose the reopening

If you believe that you get to do whatever you want and those who are “afraid” should just stay home…

Do you support Drinking While Driving and telling people who are afraid of drunk drivers to just stay home?

Because both not only impact you – it has the potential of seriously impacting others.

an iota of maturity June 30, 2020 at 2:32 PM

I support the decision.

Until everyone wears a mask and washes their hands we will never be able to open up.

KAD June 30, 2020 at 2:37 PM

Yes, I support it and will until the numbers come down.

L0L June 30, 2020 at 2:38 PM

Contra costa has no authority to stop people from earning a living. California has a law that makes it illegal for non-compete clauses in contracts or separation agreements etc.. because according to California no one can stop you from earning a living.

Yet California and CCC are stopping people from earning a living. Bunch of hypocrite clowns.

chuckie the troll June 30, 2020 at 2:46 PM

No. If a woman has the right to have an abortion, then I should have the right to do what I like with my body. If I want to eat in a restaurant, have a drink in a bar, attend a Church or go to the beach I should be allowed to make that decision. I will guarantee you one thing, the above activities are less dangerous than rock climbing, base jumping, hang gliding, using illegal drugs or living in CHAZ/CHOP.

Isn’t it funny how some people are so quick to limit what other people can do? Especially when they aren’t harmed? Allow these businesses to re-open and let the customer decide.

Xennial July 1, 2020 at 1:17 AM

How can you conclude the pandemic hasn’t harmed anyone? Allowing the Covid-19 virus to spread undoubtedly harms whoever catches it.

Letting it spread might even harm you, or are you going to keep claiming it is a hoax until you catch it yourself and then it is all of a sudden: “I am in the ER, pray for me.” Maybe it won’t be you, but if we just let it spread there will be people in the hospital.

Roz June 30, 2020 at 2:46 PM

Would have to say NO. But YES, wear a mask,…and gloves if you want, when you are out. Don’t have to wear them at Home.
There are places we CAN “live” without or visit for a while longer. If you don’t feel comfortable yet to visit those places when they open, then don’t go. But, some folks, CAN”T “live” without,…like a job. If folks can go back to work wearing a mask,….it’s no different then having to go food shopping. My Hubby is back to work at his job, wearing required mask. We hope that others will be able to get back into the work force, to provide for their Families.
Also, what if the Flu starts up again. Is it going to be treated like Covid-19? Wear mask/gloves,…since the Flu is deadly too. There would be no end in sight to restriction,…ever?

Aunt Barbara July 1, 2020 at 12:27 AM

gloves don’t do anything. You have to change them after everything you touch or it’s just plain worthless and spreads the germs more as a false sense of seciurity… JUST WASH YOUR MITTS!!!!!

Watching most workers wear gloves is appalling

JRocks June 30, 2020 at 2:52 PM

Like the original shut down the delay is a mistake. I am so frustrated with our local and state governments. I will be even more frustrated come November when democrat voters put these chumps back in office.

Antler June 30, 2020 at 2:54 PM

Absolutely, and I am fed up with trying to explain WHY (because all the heath resources are explaining that and are showing research statistics to prove it.

The first reversal of the sought-for curve “flattening” (which we had STILL not achieved, remember?) came almost exactly 14 days after the Memorial Day trips and the way so many “freedom seeking” fools ignored the mask (over nose AND mouth, please!) and social distancing standards. And the smart aleck, reckless behavior by selfish people is what is fueling the uptick in cases again.

Ancient Mariner June 30, 2020 at 3:07 PM

Does anybody remember, way back in the depths of time, the slogan “Flatten the Curve”?
The idea was that everybody would be exposed to the virus – we can’t prevent that – but, if we sheltered, used masks, etc. the hospitals wouldn’t be overwhelmed with every sick person showing up on the same day. The hospitalizations would be spread out so the hospitals could handle the case-load.
Somehow, we went from an intelligent solution (Flattening the Curve) to trying to prevent anybody from ever being exposed to the virus and destroying our livelihoods.

burnbabyburn June 30, 2020 at 3:36 PM

How dare you throw politicians words back in their face.

chuckie the troll June 30, 2020 at 3:52 PM

The only curve that has been flattened is the one measuring intelligence. I am aghast at how shallow the ‘pool’ is today. They can’t see mission (impossible) creep or a simple bait and switch.

The American public lacks the ability to reason and evaluate data and political pronouncements. No curiosity except as it pertains to Instagram stars and Reality TV.

Will June 30, 2020 at 3:57 PM

That’s because it is not November 4th yet. Expect things to get worse before they get better.

Barbie Girl June 30, 2020 at 3:12 PM

Ever since they have been allowing protests. 7-14 days later ….bam more cases. No, all bets are off. Stop the imprisonment of your law abiding citizens.

Diana June 30, 2020 at 3:14 PM

No Restaurants businesses have rehired staff bought food in an expectation of opening July 1. Now this is money wasted again for them.

Brandi June 30, 2020 at 3:52 PM

Businesses should open and tell the Governor to F.O.

If you open it we will be there to spend money.

Stealthy Mama June 30, 2020 at 3:31 PM

I think a lot of us have been Wuhan-ed long enough that we have lost our jobs, our businesses. Slowly re-opening businesses is a time for us rebuild our lives again such as searching for new jobs and allowing businesses to profit again so it does not go bankrupt completely. CCC can’t keep making us go penniless any further.

Realust June 30, 2020 at 3:36 PM

Restricting small businesses only makes it harder for them to survive. Entrance sign should say “Enter at your own risk”.

Cellophane June 30, 2020 at 3:46 PM

Of course, I don’t.

I think it’s just delaying the inevitable.

Plus all this has already destroyed so many businesses.

Prudent precautions are already in place.

There’s going to be an uptick whenever more people get out and about.

If people are afraid they can stay at home.

Life is a risk from the day you are born. You can live in fear or not.

It should be an individual choice not a mandate from the government.

Newsom said today “mark my words”

I’ll give him a mark, a boot up his behind.

LoveMyCity June 30, 2020 at 3:46 PM

Yes, until everyone in this county gets it through their heads that the way to stop this virus is for everyone to wear masks in public and to distance physically when in public. So frustrated at all the selfish people who can’t get that this is about all of us! Every person who ignores the regulations is responsible for prolonging the shutdown. Please! Follow the science. Wear the dang mask!

Aunt Barbara July 1, 2020 at 12:30 AM

How many Ignoramuses touch door handles daily? raise your hands, don’t be shy!

America June 30, 2020 at 3:55 PM

NO ! It is BS!!! heil Newscum has blackmailed the counties , saying if they dont follow his guildlines , he is going to withhold funding to them!!! That is black mail!!! So counties arent really allowed to follow their own plans. The numbers still dont add up to another shut down or “pause “, if you will . People can make their own decisions regarding their health ! The government doesn’t nor has it ever cared about the citizenry. This is an agenda !!

burnbabyburn June 30, 2020 at 3:57 PM

Perhaps a less controversial question should have been asked, like “Are you for or against BLM?” So much anger nowadays. When do we start fighting over issues like “vanilla ice cream, or chocolate ice cream?”

Aunt Barbara June 30, 2020 at 4:00 PM

Wearing masks in the heat are causing many to have cold sores and feel ill.
VERY UNHEALTHY and bad for the lungs
We will see more bad health effects later and more law suits for Gavin’s poor decisions

PESFG June 30, 2020 at 4:06 PM

Everything must reopen! Reckless/drunk drivers get on the road and they kill and injure people, soooo why aren’t they been made to stay home, are more cops on the road, etc, in order to keep people safe!? why are we all not being provided with a good healthcare system if is all about keeping people healthy and safe!? Anyone can have an accident at home that could cause injury or death. Why is wearing a mask and keeping 6ft distance not enforced when destroying public and private property since those are measures that must be taken in order to keep us ALL safe. Not everyone is rich like Pelosi with her expensive ice cream. People need to work in order to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Government is not paying our bills yet they are defining our financial situation by keeping us SIP.

sideline June 30, 2020 at 4:22 PM

no, absolutely not.
They didn’t do anything about all those protestors gathering in large groups, because it is their constitutional right to do so. Yet they do not allow business owners to open their doors so they can save whatever is left of their livelihood/business. This is truly a crime.

They have been and are handling this whole thing very poorly.
They had just about 3 month to educate people how to be cautious.

Instead they dictated and abused their power. It all started with that Shelter in place alert in March. Acting like a regime they instilled panic amongst us. While most people followed in the beginning (because they were scared to death) but each time they power up their dictatorship methods, they are loosing some of their followers.
You can say whatever you want, this is not just a health issue. Politics are mixed in and it is a b a d m i x t u r e!

Jay June 30, 2020 at 4:30 PM

Co. Co. County isn’t known for the Best or the Brightest. Hence the spike.

Yves Harlowe June 30, 2020 at 4:39 PM

We need to open. How many businesses have already gone under? How many have lost their livelihoods? If you’ve never started a business and put in the time, blood, sweat and tears to get it going, not to mention perhaps your life savings, just to see it implode because the state forced you to close, then how can you say with any credibility that we shouldn’t “allow” businesses to reopen?

How is it that a state can prevent someone from making an honest living? Is that OK with people? Apparently, it is. These closures have done incalculable damage to so many people in so many ways. I’ve listed some of the damage before, including deaths not from Covid, as have others, I won’t bother to do it again.

Yes, I wear a mask when I’m inside in public places or outside when I can’t stay some distance from others. I wash my hands. I use hand sanitizers. This isn’t a hoax. But there is a LOT of collateral damage being done because of the closures, and the length of time the closures have continued.

I still stay home quite a bit, but I’m retired and have a steady income, so I have that luxury. For many others, it’s a real disaster. And don’t forget, a lot of people CAN’T stay home. They’re the essential workers. Where would we be without them?

RANDOM TASK June 30, 2020 at 4:43 PM

so am i to understand your just following blind numbers …
has anyone gone to any hospitals
because everyone your touting as the reason your going karen on everyone
are democrats and democrat affiliated ….
i mean newsscum is hiding
kamala is not interested in anything but being bidens #2
pelosi is on anther planet
the media is bias to democrats
politicians well yes loyal to democrats not you

i do agree that what ever numbers are real are there because everyone was sheltered only essential were out there …
now with more people being exposed to the allready existing virus
yeah people will get it and possibly pass it ….wait so lets look at that one

has anyone made a factual statement as to what it is and how it spreads and where it came from …because nothing is factual if they cant find ground zero and work up

all these so called experts have given no factual answers just safeguards and suggestions ….still no one knows what or how this spreads
now yes do whatever to have a good immune system of course

and be informed and dont follow blindly there are mischievous people playing off your fears and yes controlling you

bdml June 30, 2020 at 5:02 PM

I don’t but it really doesn’t matter what I think…

Kentucky Derby June 30, 2020 at 5:11 PM

No. The stats don’t warrant what we’re going through. This is affecting less 1% of Californians, and over 80% of cases are mild. I know three people who have tested positive (two nurses and one man was on a cruise) and their symptoms were very mild.

It’s time to let people go back to work, and the kids need to be in school. Anyone who wants to stay home can do so. Whether it’s because you have underlying health conditions, or you’re fearful, etc. The rest of us need to get back to normal living. The mental well being of Californians – you’re going to have a lot of mental health destroyed.

The whole idea was to “flatten the curve” and not overwhelm the health care system, not keep everyone under lockdown until there is a vaccine, Enough is enough.

It’s easy for retired people to say we should all stay home. Would you be willing to donate your social security or pension to low income families, or those who’ve lost their jobs, homes, small businesses, etc. If your life hasn’t changed (except socially) you’re being selfish.

Open up with precautions. Life goes on.

Not Impressed June 30, 2020 at 5:18 PM

Don’t matter to us, we just get it for pickup or do the drive thru. We don’t need to eat inside anywhere so CCC can do whatever they want won’t affect us at all if we are in town or at our other residence out if CCC.

Caligirl23 June 30, 2020 at 5:33 PM

Anyone else wonder why the CoCo health all of a sudden opened up things early ( before they were supposed to) earlier this month? Now all of a sudden they are changing it to be a slower opening. It’s almost like they somehow knew cases were going to spike and needed someone to blame it on.
I can’t trust anything they say any more! Open up – sensibly! Stop lying to us!

Ilovepopcorn June 30, 2020 at 8:52 PM

The numbers don’t lie. Unfortunately this virus is very infectious and real. We are getting more cases at a rapid rate as a result of ignorance and arrogance. Selfish self centered behavior and needing to be independent is a symptom of our culture in the 🇺🇸 US! That will be the the death of us if we don’t turn this attitude around. It is not your right not to follow the mandates because you are a threat to our society. Grow up and do what is right. Mask up, wash hands, six feet apart and stay home if possible. If we all did that we could achieve success at stoping the spread of COVID 19.

Caligirl23 June 30, 2020 at 10:45 PM

@ilovepopcorn I don’t know why you are judging me! I wash my hands, wear a mask inside, and stay 6 feet apart. I think for myself, and respect those that deserve respect. The Country has NOT been transparent. Don’t worry I will definitely stay more than 6ft from you!

Cellophane June 30, 2020 at 5:35 PM

Of course, I don’t support closing anything.

An uptick in cases is inevitable with the increase in people being out and about.

There is a risk of getting the virus with everything everyone does with or without protection.

Life is a risk, it’s how everyone deals with the risk that’s important.

If your afraid, stay inside. Don’t go anywhere.

For those willing to take the risk, go for it. Just take appropriate precautions.

The government never does anything well, why should this be any different?

Ilovepopcorn July 1, 2020 at 1:53 AM

The numbers don’t lie and the government cannot be blamed for the fact that we opened way too soon. Also people are to blame not the government! People who are not following the mandates are getting sick and are hurting others. Blaming your government is not solving anything. Blame ignorance and arrogance. This is not about your right to do what you want to do! Our personal freedoms have been stolen by the virus not our government. So so sad. The culture of many people think their independent rights are paramount when actually it is the opposite. To fight this virus we now must give up our independent behaviors. You can’t blame politics.

Tsa June 30, 2020 at 5:55 PM

Back in March, we all had the option of “the short term pain for the long term gain” but there are those self centered people who think they knew better. Now we all have to suffer the long term pain thanks to the lack of common sense and logic.

Justifiable languor June 30, 2020 at 6:25 PM

Letting crowds protest, riot and loot stands out, in the lack of common sense arena.

The Fearless Spectator June 30, 2020 at 6:33 PM

You must be referring to the looters, demonstrators, and early released felons.

Justifiable languor July 1, 2020 at 5:52 AM

Oh dear, I left out the felons that were released. I hope they’re feeling blessed.

kilo June 30, 2020 at 6:14 PM

No way.

Restaurants need to reopen. Staying home should be a choice, not mandatory.

yup June 30, 2020 at 9:40 PM

Restaurants are allowed to be open for takeout orders or drivethru orders. I think you can live without dining at a restaurant

Brandi July 1, 2020 at 7:52 AM

We will survive but the “walk in only” restaurants will not.
Other businesses are in trouble too.
Small businesses that people have invested everything in will go bankrupt unless they are allowed to reopen.
People who are willing to risk the chance of of getting the virus should reopen and save their businesses….their lively hood.
The alternative is poverty.
We are adults and can decide for ourselves… hide or face the challenge.
I’d elaborate further but it’s time for me to go to work.

Reality says... June 30, 2020 at 6:14 PM

Ignorance with arrogance is a deadly combination…the number of new cases and upward trends in hospital admissions tells the story. But people like to argue with data when it doesn’t favor them. Sit back, watch, it’s going to get worse.

Me June 30, 2020 at 6:50 PM

Now they want to NOT open something that hasn’t even been open…?
My thought is..why did we ever open a mall? The most nonessential thing in the world! Leisure shopping, with coughing and gagging around…really? Shut that crap down!

Gary Benton June 30, 2020 at 7:12 PM

The 7 day average of new Coronavirus cases continues to rise at an increasing rate. That is because people are gathering more now since the start of “loosening up” and too many are not wearing masks. The plan for opening things up was based on the criteria for new cases, testing, hospitalizations, etc. The numbers are not close to what they were planned to be to open up such as has been done.
So, Yes, I agree with the County to delay the scheduled re-openings.

Gititogether June 30, 2020 at 7:48 PM

And…in 5-10yrs, when looking back at the decisions that led to thousands of bankrupt businesses and trillions in debt, the current sanctimonious crowd will claim they only advocated simple, logical, masking and handwashing and not a crippling complete shutdown.

Antler June 30, 2020 at 8:46 PM

Those first three months of quarantine mean absolutely NOTHING now!
We are pretty much starting over.
So instead of whining “When will this END?”, try asking “When will we take this pandemic seriously enough to GET STARTED”?

Jimmy July 1, 2020 at 12:15 AM

Hey Pat.
Get some sense. The states just wave at Trump and do their own thing. It’s called States Rights. That prisoner move to San Quentin was on purpose. We all know the plan for expensive housing to replace it. Governors and Mayors just kissed the rioters butts while they spread it around..
Thank “Trying to get rid of Trump” for the disaster.

Doh June 30, 2020 at 8:52 PM

Yes because some people refuse to take simple steps to help insure their health and the health of others. The reasons vary but mostly they are irrational. Doctors say masks help. Surgeons wear masks. Others minimize the risk of dying with screwy statistics. Worldwide 5% of infected people die.

Americans are not welcome in Europe because we failed to manage this virus.

If we do not obey the guidelines shutdowns will continue while infections rise.

I am starting to think, this thing, “Covid-19” is never going to go away and we need to learn how to live it. It’s a new virus, and our bodies don’t know how to deal with it,….yet. How is it that, some people are a-symptomatic as Covid-19 runs its course, some people get noticeably sick, and some people get a death sentence? What defenses does the body of an a-symptomatic have that everyone else lacks?

Ilovepopcorn July 1, 2020 at 3:24 AM

Here’s the deal. I’m fed up and I am NOT going to do anything about it. I’ll wait for change to happen on its own. This is the prevailing attitude that I see. This is what is going to be the demise of many if this action does not end. God help us.

Umm …how bout a NO.
The death rate is not nearly where they said it would be …. and NO I do not believe it is because of social distancing and masks. I think the original numbers were toi scare us, and based on some of the responses here, it worked!
The reported infection rate is a joke! It is nowhere close to what they are currently reporting and the CDC, WHO and many others are saying that we have 40-50 times more infected than we are reporting. That brings our death rate down to season flu percentages.
The intentional moves of sick people into confined spaces (prisons and senior homes) has caused more death than any other decision during this event. Why did we move known COVID patients to San Quentin?
The blackmail efforts by IDIOT TRUMP and Dictator NESWSCUM when they are threatening to withhold monies for emergencies if we do not comply with their wishes! One one hand, counties do what you want but on the other if you don’t do what I say, I will not give you money.

During this crisis the city, county, state and federal government should suspend all of the additional taxes, such as on gasoline, just to name one glaring tax, in order to get us back on our feet. That goes for all the municipalities who have added sneaky levies onto our tax bills and the list is to long to go on… Those of us that take the time to read these measures will know what I am speaking about. Stop spending money on the homeless and rioters who cause so many of our issues to begin with. Since Newsom could find places to put the possible covid 19 infected population why not turn those places into rehab for the homeless and make them work for their benefits and become valuable part of society instead of the blood sucking vampires they have become. Many want to remain that way because everything is given to them free with no requirements.
Oh how foolish of me that will never happen as the Dems, liberals and entitlement politicians are on the dole and want the votes of all the non registered voters along with the entitlement crowds votes.

Tomato Girl July 1, 2020 at 8:37 AM

NO! And all those who are for closing down again must have deep pockets! If your scared then stay home. It’s BS! Fear is the key here. More testing being done. Rioting and protesting is ok but going to work and supporting you and your family is not. Newton and his goons are HORRIBLE people and will stop at nothing. I would bet that this virus crap will go on forever because now they have had a taste of power and will never give it up. People are loading their lively hoods. Get back to work or we will end up like Venezuela.

Saving Lives July 1, 2020 at 9:28 AM

Californians are not allowed entry into EU. Saving lives is more important than the repercussions to their economy. Get with it folks, listen to the experts. Educate yourself on the facts. Even if you’re in denial, be compliant with social-distancing requirements so you can get your kids back to school so they’re not home driving you crazy!

jjshawk July 1, 2020 at 1:57 PM

It’s hard to trust the experts when they seem to be learning alongside the rest of us. Perhaps everything, a complete shutdown for a month to starve the virus would have been more effective? I was out of work for 3 1/2 months, and that hurt badly. One month without an income is not a problem for me, but one quarter of a year,….forget that. And now, after all of the sacrifices we were “forced” make, the “experts” and the media are having us believe it’s back to square one. Many of the people (myself included) , who are now angry and defiant, were at one time quite willing to do our part to help flatten the curve. Many of us would rather die trying, as opposed to sitting in a state of submission.

At this point, my priorities are: (1) protect my health, my immune system (plenty of vitamin-D, 9-hours of sleep each night, healthy diet, tons of exercise) (2) protect my income and save my money. Americans, in general, don’t maintain their health very well (too much sugar, too much fast-food, little to no exercise) and that could make fighting any illnesses more challenging. People should be allowed to take risks, and those who are worried or those who are aware of their own frailties should stay home.

@JJshawk~You figured it out, do what’s best for your family! So let it be said, so let it be done…mitigate what the circumstances of this virus are for you and your loved ones…take your risks as we do every time we step foot outside our home. We don’t hesitate to send our young men/women into combat…Covid-19 battle is being fought by our older generation. Its about self-preservation now for you and yours.

Masks are not a panacea.

caskydiver July 1, 2020 at 10:04 AM

No. The goal WAS to “flatten the curve”, remember? It was not to shut down the economy until the virus was eradicated. Cases may go up because testing is going up…that’s a natural consequence of more testing. Also, those that are contracting the virus are younger, healthier people that will shake this off easily. As more and more people get this and shake it off, we achieve “herd immunity” that will help control this virus.

Paul Barnes July 1, 2020 at 12:32 PM

Nonsensical political panic. Shutting down, rolling back….for what? There’s only 32 Covid patients in the Hospital….32…These spikes, if they even exist, are not getting people ill. The University of Arizona has shown that the Covid virus is weakening: it’s genome is losing genetic segments. The longer this goes, the weaker the virus will get, regardless of who contracts it. Open the State. Covid will spread, but it’s virility is almost down to nothing.

But it can’t get better or it might make Trump look better!
Democrats need to keep the doom & gloom going until November!
Everybody get with the program & continue to suffer.

Having a gathering with people not in your household is called “accelerated evolution,” but it may endanger older folks who did not choose to assume the risk.

Nurses and empty tests was bogus. That’s why the source is “lost”
My mask protects you from me
Your mask protects me from you
Proven not 100% but a pretty good percentage.
What if I come across you and you are not wearing a mask, Should I take mine off and engage you in a polite conversation, possibly infecting you and you, family, wife, mother grandmother children? By you not wearing a mask that is what you are doing to everyone you meet
