Hey you June 29, 2020 - 4:48 PM - 4:48 PM

We’re going to have an overload of mental health issues if we continue to lock things down. Youth sports is essential for the kids.

April June 29, 2020 - 5:11 PM - 5:11 PM

We have golf open, why not youth sports? Are kids not important? I guess their mental well-being does not matter

LimeRidge Larry June 29, 2020 - 5:42 PM - 5:42 PM

The health authorities are abusing their power. Some famous guy once observed, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

Aunt Barbara June 29, 2020 - 7:24 PM - 7:24 PM

Many have gained weight and aged. 10 years. That alone will hurt our healthcare system, especially when no one can pay their medical bill

H8 BART June 29, 2020 - 7:45 PM - 7:45 PM

@ Aunt Barbara – Unless someone is being force fed against their will or has a contributing medical condition such as an under active thyroid, a person has no one to blame for their weight but themselves.

Gittyup June 29, 2020 - 9:44 PM - 9:44 PM

H8 BART It’s not that simple.

Aunt Barbara June 30, 2020 - 12:23 AM - 12:23 AM

Many need the gyms to curb their weight. The stress of the shelter in place calls for comfort food for many to survive….the rest can be found under the bart tracks and found missing:

Aunt Barbara June 30, 2020 - 12:45 AM - 12:45 AM

You mean it’s essential for the parents. Most kids could care less. There are other things to do… fishing, neighborhood sports, games,, reading, building things and learning new hobbies, tennis, golf, COOKING and dancing, SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY the list goes on….KIDS ARE ADAPTABLE AND WILL SURVIVE!

parent June 30, 2020 - 7:32 AM - 7:32 AM

@ Hey You
I agree that we are going to face to some tough mental health issue for kids if we continue down the this lock down path we are on. You speak of youth sports, and I would love to see that open, but for me I feel we are lacking the social interaction for the kids. Many are staying in their homes, not going out and breathing in the fear emanating from their parents over the current situation. That is not healthy for them

Youth sports should be open if we are allowing the adults to play.

Pyrrhus June 30, 2020 - 8:45 AM - 8:45 AM

I keep hearing mental health and an uptick in suicide as a talking point for the anti-SIP people. However, is there any proof this is actually happening because the only articles I’ve seen have been conjecture about a worry of an uptick. If there is an uptick, is it more than than 128k in deaths of COVID-19? You have to think, if we didn’t shelter in place that 128k death would be much higher. For 2018, according to the NCHS, there were 48k suicides in the USA. Are you telling me that in 2020 there have been nearly 200k suicides already? If that is true then I can see your argument. However, I suspect, that any uptick in suicides is just a small drop in the bucket compared to the potential death from COVID-19 if everything were to open up and nobody practiced social distancing or wearing masks.

Also, according to experts, someone doesn’t just become suicidal because of SIP. It is a mental condition that they would have been struggling with for awhile.

As far as kids go, that’s on the parents to let them get their exercise. Nothing is keeping you from taking your kid to the park and playing catch with them in an open field. Exercise is almost completely useless to weight loss. It is all about diet and food choices. Little Timmy can run around all day but if he’s stuffing his face with pancakes, bacon, biscuits and gravy for breakfast, hamburgers, fries, and a milkshake for lunch, and then having Pizza and an icecream sunday for dinner he will gain weight.

Like Hey you said, kid’s will be fine. I’m young enough to remember that I was perfectly happy staying home playing video games all day. It’s even better now because they can play online with friends and voice chat. Set them up with a minecraft server and it will keep them entertained, socialized, and creative. Also, spend more time actually doing things with your kid. All these hobbies and programs are glorified babysitting. Kids would rather have your time than going to activity X of the day.

SF oh June 30, 2020 - 10:07 AM - 10:07 AM

@Pyrrhus – I think the term “mental health” might be tossed around too easily, sometimes. There may not be studies or articles or surveys – but that doesn’t mean that the problem doesn’t exist. People do not always seek help for depression or anxiety- especially now when the government and media have people scared to death to leave the house. I have spoken to several of my neighbors who had very active social lives before the lockdown. All have said they’re bored and lonely. Being cooped up in the house watching the news exaggerate this thing can also leave people hopeless and depressed. It’s easy to say – “well get out and take your kids to the park”. It’s like telling a person who has anxiety attacks – “hey, just relax”, and expect them to be fine. People are social animals. We need to interact with each other. Kids need other kids more than video games. Young people need to feel that they have a good future ahead of them. Whether there are articles about it or not – this lockdown is causing more problems than it is solving.

Rollo Tomasi June 30, 2020 - 2:34 PM - 2:34 PM

“I’m young enough to remember that I was perfectly happy staying home playing video games all day.”

That says a lot.

Nunya June 29, 2020 - 4:52 PM - 4:52 PM

Close the mall.

JazzMan June 29, 2020 - 6:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Cuz people don’t know how to behave. Wear the freakin’ mask! Wash your hands! Keep your distance! Don’t gather together! Do this and it will all go away. Not today, but sooner if we do what we’re supposed to do.

Puffandstuff June 29, 2020 - 6:38 PM - 6:38 PM

We can do all that jazzman but it won’t change the fact that Newsom has moved cases from Imperial Valley up here also he moved positive inmates from a prison down south to San Quentin thus starting the outbreak in there.
Don’t tell me he’s not spreading it all around CA on purpose. There’s only so much in our control.
We need to live life and stop the fear.

Rollo Tomasi June 30, 2020 - 9:21 AM - 9:21 AM

@JazzMan:

What will “go away”? Has HIV gone away? How about MERS? SARS? Influenza?

greg June 29, 2020 - 6:29 PM - 6:29 PM

JazzMan is 100% right. Mask up, Keep your distance. Wash hands.

Humiliating to be an American right now. We used to look out for each other.

ZZ June 29, 2020 - 11:31 PM - 11:31 PM

You’re ashamed to be an American because we aren’t all falling in line with this political pandemic? And what makes you think people in other countries don’t believe their countries should be shut down? Oh, and by the way, masks don’t do s***.

Dan June 30, 2020 - 6:43 AM - 6:43 AM

@ZZ I am ashamed that our leaders have politicized the use of a face mask when the science tells us that face masks work in reducing the spread. Prominent Republican leaders and even Sean Hannity are coming around to the value that masks provide. It is sad that the use of a mask has further polarized our country, undermined the response and jeopardized our economic recovery.

Obamavirus June 29, 2020 - 7:17 PM - 7:17 PM

The Marxists cultivate what are termed as “low-information voters”
These people generally spend a lot of time watching tv and tend to passively absorb heavily biased information presented often subliminally by watching fake news CNN, etc but also the commercials like the “dancing nurses” and “we’re in it together” Nancy, Biden posing boldly in their masks
It has been shown conclusively that gov officials will out right lie on tv interview programs but then refuse to testify to that information under oath
during a congressional hearing Russian hoax, impeachment hoax , virus hoax (2.5 million dead) because they would then be guilty of perjury (lying to Congress)
We must only look at the actual virus data for CC county
Low case numbers
Low hospitalizations
Low deaths
We have had this data for weeks now, in fact we were getting it before the original mask order
This is a political operation of opportunity for the Marxists
You don’t shut down economy for a disease with similar characteristics to the common flu
The Marxists don’t give a damn about the people

Dan June 30, 2020 - 6:44 AM - 6:44 AM

@obamavirus – It appears you are the low information voter. This is not the common flu.

T. Payne June 30, 2020 - 4:37 PM - 4:37 PM

@Dan

Search Dr. Atlas on You Tube and see what he has to say about Corona Virus. Very well respected Stanford University MD who disagrees with a lot of the garbage put out by the government about this pandemic. There are many other less well known Dr’s who also disagree but are being silenced by the mainstream media and the social media monopolies.
Who benefits the most from this lockdown? Amazon. Who owns The Washington Post? Jeff Bezos of Amazon. You see any conflict of interest there?

RANDOM TASK June 29, 2020 - 7:55 PM - 7:55 PM

hi april
i hate to inform you that they are using your children to control you

dont take my word just look at what they are setting up with schools

the defunded them without your consent then they asked for more money and fired teachers who wanted to teach in favor of those who would listen and adhere to their policy of ripping you off …..while they flooded the schools with illegals furthering the lack of education for your children

school board members are union and do what the union says ….

your interests are not their concern

that sux and so does what they are going to offer when school starts …if it does

demand answers dont be content to follow them …..they are not operating in your best interest or your children …..research and observation are the key

Rea June 29, 2020 - 9:55 PM - 9:55 PM

Let’s open up the Bay Area now. Those who are afraid to catch anything can stay home. This is getting ridiculous.

Donk June 29, 2020 - 10:18 PM - 10:18 PM

We are never going back to normal. Embrace the NWO sheep

Tugboat June 30, 2020 - 6:52 AM - 6:52 AM

Never!

addlepate June 30, 2020 - 4:16 AM - 4:16 AM

The Democrats have turned the pandemic into a political issue as best they can across the country. They want to damage the economy further in an effort to win the White House. It’s immoral what they are doing..

Old-school guy June 30, 2020 - 7:04 AM - 7:04 AM

Open all businesses. We will achieve herd immunity sooner. Yes, many will die in the process, but that’s the price of freedom. Just like war.

greg June 30, 2020 - 7:29 AM - 7:29 AM

@ZZ

RIght, masks don’t work. Social distancing doesn’t work. That’s why South Korea and New Zealand are up and operating again. Europe just banned U.S. travelers because we lead the world in Corona disease and death.

You better believe I am humiliated to be an American right now. Years ago we would have led the global effort to fight this and been one of the first countries to figure it out and get on with life until a vaccine.

Now we argue about masks while over 100k Americans are dead, with more on the way.

But hey, masks don’t work. It’s all a giant global scam just to make you angry.

Rollo Tomasi June 30, 2020 - 9:33 AM - 9:33 AM

“You better believe I am humiliated to be an American right now.“

Sucks to be you.

greg June 30, 2020 - 11:03 AM - 11:03 AM

@Rollo

Yeah, good luck booking a trip to Europe any time soon. USA! USA! USA!

Rollo Tomasi June 30, 2020 - 2:36 PM - 2:36 PM

I’m all broken up inside. I guess my trips to Yosemite, Bandon Dunes and Sea Island, GA will have to suffice this year.
