If we continue to make progress in our fight to contain COVID-19, Contra Costa County will be relaxing more restrictions on businesses and social activities in the coming days and weeks.

Details will be announced on June 2. Below are some of the most significant changes being considered:

Effective Wednesday, June 3

Businesses:

  • Office-based businesses (telework remains strongly encouraged)
  • Services that don’t require close customer contact, such as housekeeping, car washes, pet grooming and plumbing
  • Outdoor museums, and open gallery spaces and other public spaces with modifications
  • Indoor retail stores, including shopping malls and swap meets Activities
  • Childcare, including child and youth educational activities and camps for all children, not just essential and allowed workers
  • Small outdoor social gatherings with social distancing (household support bubbles and child extracurricular activities)

Effective Monday, June 15

These are higher risk activities, restrictions would be relaxed at a later date.

  • Limited-capacity religious services and cultural ceremonies up to 100 people. These would be limited to outdoor events only.
  • Protests up to 100 people; limited to outdoor events only

The state has a timeline for opening higher risk activities like swimming and salons, which can be found at covid19.ca.gov.

Oh yeah, I remember reading that in the U.S. constitution, the part about protests being limited to 100 people.

You’re doing a heck of a job, Fartitano. A heck of a job…

parent May 30, 2020 - 7:35 PM - 7:35 PM

So the state says we can worship inside a building, but Crazy Co Co Fartitano says only outside and on June 15th if we are good little boys and girls.

And I thought car washes were already open … in fact, I have seen two in the last couple of weeks being used.

How ‘blessed’ we are to have him ‘watching’ over us.

My question for the fool, what are the restrictions on the kids camps? Most have already been cancelled with money refunded … but yeah …

Eastbay Babe May 30, 2020 - 7:03 PM - 7:03 PM

How about medial services? Like Dental, Therapy Rehab, etc.

Robert May 30, 2020 - 7:51 PM - 7:51 PM

That’s OK, I relaxed the restrictions myself 2 months ago. 🏍👍🏻

Mitch May 30, 2020 - 8:02 PM - 8:02 PM

Where is this timeline on the covid website theyre talking about? I cant seem to find it

Drew May 31, 2020 - 1:31 AM - 1:31 AM

Open up restaurants/bars/breweries (specifically) so I can finally go back to work. And so can all my industry friends can too. Unfortunately us, alameda and sf county will be the last ones to be able to get back to some type of normal.

gar May 30, 2020 - 8:06 PM - 8:06 PM

Contra Costa County is stuck in the past…..

Puffandstuff May 30, 2020 - 8:09 PM - 8:09 PM

There is absolutely no reason Private swim clubs should remain closed.
But hey Mr. Fart thanks for throwing us a bone. The verbiage is crazy. They will allow us small gatherings . What a joke. Everyone I know has had get together a and no one is SIP. So whatever….

Original G May 30, 2020 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

All they need to do is look around, to know this SIP stuff is DONE. Coming home from work smelling BBQs,
all kinds of extra vehicles parked near houses with pools, sounds of kids enjoying the pool, boats and RVs pulled outta side yards being loaded up.

Today one death in Alameda county and two in Monterey county. Other 73 deaths were all in southern CA.

Of 3,139 new cases 2,800 were in southern CA.

Now if state will order testing in all non hospital care facilities housing our elderly, new cases and deaths should drop way off.

Still find it hard to believe CV-19 positive persons not needing hospitalization were allowed into elder care facilities.
An no bureaucrat or politician will be held to account for that grievous mistake in judgement.

Kim May 30, 2020 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

What about nail salons and barber shops? Many are preparing to follow the safety guidelines. Chiropractors are still working one on one with clients, why can’t barbers and manicurists with the same precautions?

Peace Man May 30, 2020 - 9:42 PM - 9:42 PM

Is the County stupid or what, going to open up 100 people outdoors only for protests, those are not protest those or organized by out of town Antifa and other anarchist groups paid for by big money to destroy this country. Coming hear on Monday.

Led May 30, 2020 - 9:46 PM - 9:46 PM

“Small outdoor social gatherings with social distancing (household support bubbles and child extracurricular activities)” Hey, finally a mention of something besides consumer activity!

As to religious activity, if they are outside, why limit to 100 people?? And why does that need to wait until the 15th? Outdoor, spaced out activity is low risk.

Ano May 30, 2020 - 10:26 PM - 10:26 PM

Please tell me why we can’t go to our outdoor swim club

Momma June 1, 2020 - 9:01 AM - 9:01 AM

Exactly! Do they know that chlorine is BLEACH?! And if they are not treated with chlorine, they are treated with ionic compounds that also destroy all microbes, including viruses. Pools are more sanitary the hospital! There is absolutely no biological way any virus can survive in pool water. Our leaders are a bunch of dummies. DUH!

REK June 1, 2020 - 8:59 PM - 8:59 PM

To Momma: THIS virus travels through the air. From one persons eyes or nose or mouth, to another’s. Thus we wear masks which do not protect our eyes. So we stay home as much as possible. The chlorine in the water does not kill the virus in the air. And how many people do you think would wear masks at the pool? Those “dummies” are smart. They know what they’re doing when it comes to pools.

BORbeliever May 30, 2020 - 10:31 PM - 10:31 PM

CCHealth needs to explain why they aren’t opening publix outdoor swimming pools like Heather Farms. It’s absolutely ridiculous that pools aren’t open.

Vindex May 30, 2020 - 10:45 PM - 10:45 PM

Household support bubbles mean we can see friends and family?

snickerdad May 31, 2020 - 1:05 AM - 1:05 AM

And still no barber shop!
Will I have to go to Reno next weekend for my grandkids Birthday, guess I’ll get it cut there.
We’ve had people protesting by the hundreds with no mask but we still can’t get a darn haircut.
These people are sick.

RTman June 2, 2020 - 6:10 PM - 6:10 PM

Or, you could get your haircut in Napa since hair salons are open.

Steve May 31, 2020 - 6:41 AM - 6:41 AM

If business wants to open up they should do it. If enough people want to the government can’t stop them. Sad, but 37 people dying isn’t worth throwing many more into poverty.

CHSgrad89 May 31, 2020 - 6:58 AM - 6:58 AM

Opening up the malls and retail stores, just in time for antifa and anarchists to come loot. Awesome

Tugboat May 31, 2020 - 7:28 AM - 7:28 AM

Surely Farnitano and Anna Roth are sitting in their offices laughing at what they have done. Once again dangling the carrots in front of the people and then pulling them away at the last minute.

Tugboat May 31, 2020 - 7:37 AM - 7:37 AM

Open up some significant things such as restaurants, barber shops, hair salons, What are you waiting for Fartano and Roth. Have you not been watching TV lately?

Cellophane May 31, 2020 - 7:57 AM - 7:57 AM

I’d like to see medical offices open again.

All medical offices.

Who better to product against viruses than medical personnel?

Plus, people need care and such care should NEVER be curtailed.

I think the County Health people have forgotten about the health maintenance professionals which is very sad.

Tugboat May 31, 2020 - 9:55 AM - 9:55 AM

I agree.

Remember May 31, 2020 - 8:31 AM - 8:31 AM

Remember in November!

Sone May 31, 2020 - 9:18 AM - 9:18 AM

Call ahead to get an appointment. They are very busy but cutting hair in a safe way. Bring a mask as both the client and the stylist were required to wear them when I got my hair cut.

Heather May 31, 2020 - 10:03 AM - 10:03 AM

Clearly they are getting pressure to do something. I absolutely agree remember to vote in November. Vote for people who are paying attention not just people who have the education but not the sense needed to act appropriately on behalf of the people they serve.

Yves Harlowe May 31, 2020 - 10:14 AM - 10:14 AM

Huh. I’ve already had my housekeeper back a few times to help me with cleaning. My back only allows me to do a certain amount, and I needed help with cleaning. It was fine. We weren’t in close contact and she uses bleach and disinfectants. I was past caring that the county said it wasn’t “allowed.” We’ve also gone to visit family and friends. You just can’t keep healthy people in lockdown for extended periods and expect compliance.

chuckie the troll May 31, 2020 - 12:04 PM - 12:04 PM

Almost cut my hair
Happened just the other day
It’s gettin’ kind of long
I could’ve said it was in my way
But I didn’t and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it, to someone, yeah

My hair hasn’t been this long since the 80’s!

ChuckStir May 31, 2020 - 12:43 PM - 12:43 PM

The only good news at this point would be if Farnitano and Roth were ousted.

chuckie the troll May 31, 2020 - 1:09 PM - 1:09 PM

Our housekeeper NEVER stopped working. I see plumbing trucks in my neighborhood every week. Landscaping never stopped and most don’t wear masks. Had three large parties on our block on Mother’s Day. Neighbors allow their friends to use the pool. I think my Men’s Bible Study is going to met in-person next week. So yeah, people are just so done with Cower-in-Place.

I’m not going to have my hair cut until my regular Barber can cut it. I’ll hand him a $100 bill and tell him to keep the change. If I knew how to punish the BOS beyond showing up at their Zoom meetings, I’d consider it.
