Contra Costa County Health Services announced on Facebook that “Good News Is Coming” on June 2.

The county is expected to go into phase 2 of the COVID-19 shutdown re-opening plan, which would start on June 3.

This means all retail will be allowed to reopen, along with summer camps. Both with modifications.

It’s unknown if the county will allow dine-in restaurants to start to serve sit-down customers, or when they plan to open hair salons, barber shops, and nail salons will be given approval to reopen.

BORbeliever May 30, 2020 - 3:08 PM - 3:08 PM

They tell us we are going to get “good news” in a few days like we are children waiting for a treat. Why don’t they just make the announcement? In any case, it’s too late for many businesses (especially restaurants and bars) that won’t survive. Sad.

The Fearless Spectator May 30, 2020 - 3:58 PM - 3:58 PM

That’s really quite true. They sense people are restless, so dangle a cookie to make them docile for a few days. It’s sort of a twisted rudimentary attempt at behavior modification. Quite arrogant really.

Lost Pride May 30, 2020 - 5:13 PM - 5:13 PM

BORbeliever: I totally agree with you. They are actually dangling a “treat” for adult taxpayers? That is just disgusting behavior. We should all be horrified. Businesses are ruined, people in record numbers are calling suicide hot lines and undetected illness is not being detected.

But we are getting a special surprise in 4 days. To tag into your Christmas example… I just hope it’s a pair of socks we get to open.

Lizzee May 30, 2020 - 6:06 PM - 6:06 PM

To say it’s nauseating and revolting is a gross understatement.

Knarf May 30, 2020 - 7:13 PM - 7:13 PM

Because to democrats you are children who needed to be told to wash your hands stop picking your nose…they are your masters. They forget they are public servants.

well well well. its about time something is going to be said.
im so tired of sitting at home. ive watched pretty much everything on prime video, and listened to a lot on spotify. im ready to go back and visit places on my weekends. im ready to sit down in restaurants and coffee shops. and maybe kings donuts. i sure do miss that. not to mention my hair looks like a hippy. its been months since i last had a haircut.

Don’t get your hopes up, it will be under whelming and bless what’s going on anyway … I see more and more defiance every day

Led May 30, 2020 - 3:26 PM - 3:26 PM

Any guidance or update on non-commercial activity, like visiting family or friends?

TD May 30, 2020 - 5:52 PM - 5:52 PM

Any chance your family or friends might want to go out and loot/riot? They seem to be pretty sympathetic to that, and it will allow you to spend some quality time together. Do some retail shopping.

You seem like a very responsible, reasonable person from your posts. I appreciate that; I’m the same kind of person, but what is becoming abundantly clear to me- is people like us will continue to be disproportionately affected by the ever increasingly arbitrary and capricious rules associated with this lockdown. I am someone who has the utmost respect for society’s rules, but I think they’ve lost even me on this one.

Cellophane May 30, 2020 - 3:27 PM - 3:27 PM

The only news I want to hear from the headless foul at the Contra Costa Health Services is that everything can open.

No more restrictions.

I fear I will be greatly disappointed.

cheeseburguesa May 30, 2020 - 3:29 PM - 3:29 PM

hoping for something positive, but the wait and see every day routine is growing tiresome. Hope is not a strategy.

p.s. if this is another “lockdown sex tips” list I’m gonna be severely disappointed.

Why aren’t the dog parks open yet? We know how to social-distance!

94521 May 30, 2020 - 4:13 PM - 4:13 PM

Do dogs know how to social distance? They can spread the virus from their owners.

parent May 30, 2020 - 7:42 PM - 7:42 PM

More false news 94521. CDC website states the following:

At this time, there is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the virus that causes COVID-19. Based on the limited information available to date, the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered to be low. A small number of pets have been reported to be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, mostly after contact with people with COVID-19.
Pets have other types of coronaviruses that can make them sick, like canine and feline coronaviruses. These other coronaviruses cannot infect people and are not related to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Please please quit spreading fake information.

Introducing drive-by haircuts!

Shove your longest locks through a half inch crack in the window, and our robo-snipper will shorten errant hair by six inches. Vehicles must remain 150′ apart, and citizens must remain masked at all times, even when windows are sealed. All robo-snipper locations must be staffed by armed security if lines extend more than three cars deep.

Oh, goody. Dangling a treat in front of us. It’s already too late for a lot of businesses and people who have had surgeries delayed, as well as other medical treatments. Suicides, mental health issues, kids missing out on education and spending time with their friends, living in fear of the virus –

Thankfully, we can travel to an open county and enjoy a little bit of a normal life. It’s been too long already.

Aunt Barbara May 30, 2020 - 4:15 PM - 4:15 PM

@ LED, go hang with family now. A lot of people are already doing it.

Though I do not like even where the state is, let us match the state mandates and move on with our lives and quit treating us like prisoners – sometimes prisoners revolt.

Brenda May 30, 2020 - 7:17 PM - 7:17 PM

Seems that CCCHS wants us to look at the state website. However, when you go to the state site, it defers back to the county. I just want to know when I can get a GD haircut, also.

KSFO May 30, 2020 - 6:17 PM - 6:17 PM

According to your link, in the US, 1 out of 500 has or had covid19 yet 1 out of 4 in the US workforce has filed unemployment since late March.
An absolutely criminal over reaction!

94521 May 30, 2020 - 6:39 PM - 6:39 PM

@KSFO
Yeah, and without social distancing 1 out of 4 Americans would have or have had Covid19. It’s only 1 out of 500 BECAUSE of social distancing. It’s really not hard to understand. The Republican administration failed this country biggly. Remember that in November, okay?

parent May 30, 2020 - 7:40 PM - 7:40 PM

@94521
really .. without social distancing 1 in 4 would have it. Really? Besides thin air, where do you get those stats?

If 1 in 4 would have it without social distancing, the homeless would have a 25% infection rate, cause they ain’t been distancing. Do 1 in 4 homeless have it? I doubt it, but I cannot prove it, much like you cannot prove your 1 in 4 would have it statement. Since our Sweden did not social distance either, they should have 1 in 4 with Covid … o but they don’t.

What is hard to understand is when people spit out these statistics that they made out of thin air, with no scientific data to back it up, and try to make everyone else believe it.

All of our politicians who are suppose to represent us have failed us. Trump, Newsom and many many more. I will remember during the next elections to vote anyone BUT them. If I have an opportunity to sign a recall notice for any of them, I will.

KSFO May 30, 2020 - 7:41 PM - 7:41 PM

@94521
It was not at all necessary to shut down half of America to maintain
proper social distancing, like your paranoid experts on tv told you. I prefer proven facts like face masks. And as for your snide final comment, i neither like Trump, nor your pal, Biden, who by all accounts is the American version of Boris Yeltsin. You and so many others actually DO believe there is a difference between a democrat and a republican, very scary. Have a nice evening…..Okay?

The Wizard May 30, 2020 - 5:46 PM - 5:46 PM

CoCoCounty Health really needs a PR Professional to guide their decisions. The inmates appear to be in charge of the asylum.

Caligirl23 May 30, 2020 - 6:59 PM - 6:59 PM

Yay! Wait…what? We are still in phase 1, when there are CA counties moving into phase 3. Don’t lie to us CoCo health! Good news is when we are freed from unlawful house arrest.

brenda May 30, 2020 - 7:03 PM - 7:03 PM

So the county says the state has the guideline for hair salons. When you look on the state web page, it defers back to the county. Who the hell has the correct information??

Sancho Panza May 31, 2020 - 12:14 AM - 12:14 AM

Brenda, it appears we have a case of the blind leading the blind…no one knows where we’re going, or worse yet, who’s in charge!

ZZ May 30, 2020 - 7:11 PM - 7:11 PM

Oh please stop talking to us like we’re a bunch of morons and that you’re doing us a favor and that you actually think we’re buying into this unnecessary shut down. All in the name of health. Yet you allow drug addicts to shoot up in parks and the BART and you allow people to deficate and urinate anywhere they want. You can just shut up.

Showsomerespect May 30, 2020 - 8:54 PM - 8:54 PM

Show some respect for the families that have lost husbands, wives, sons and daughter. For those that are still sick and fighting for their lives. You all are in a hurry to get back out there. You could get infected and then infect other people. This is not fear saying these things. It’s from 1st hand experience that I say these things. It’s my hope you will never have to see or go through losing your loved ones from this nutritious virus. Stay safe, stay healthy!

parent May 30, 2020 - 9:49 PM - 9:49 PM

Sorry to be cold Respect .. but ~1400 cases in our County. 37 deaths. Our population is over a 1 million. So because 1400 people got it, we lock up 998,600 people? we kill hundreds of small business. We lose how many to suicide driven by depression and mental anguish. We create a bigger homeless population. Even if the 1400 multiplied by 10, so 14000, that is still 986,000 people not sick, not transmitting.

We need to draw a line and determine what we want to lose. No one, NO ONE wants to lose a family member, but if you are in a vulnerable population group, you should protect yourself like you do with every other threat. 99% of the people should not have to be locked up to protect the 1%.

Captive in California May 30, 2020 - 9:43 PM - 9:43 PM

Hooray! A light at the end of the tunnel! Oh wait, that’s just the blaze from a car set on fire in Oakland. What’s that? No haircuts until July, Gav? So now we get to worry about our public health AND our public safety. Mask rage everywhere you look, people laying in the streets on top of each other on the news.. YOU should also have some respect as well–respect for our choice to live our lives the way we wan to live it. Hopefully CUomo witll stop putting sick people in with our elders in nursing homes and we will see a drastic reduction What a loser. .
