B) Pumpkin Bread

Banana nut bread

RTC May 29, 2020 at 7:49 PM

Cowellian May 29, 2020 at 7:55 PM

Banana Bread, for certain!

Lambie May 29, 2020 at 8:12 PM

I like both, but if I had to choose it would be B.

Hanne Jeppesen May 29, 2020 at 8:15 PM

Neither cranberry, orange bread, made with orange liquor. I usually make it around thanksgiving, it is great with cream cheese, and make a nice hostess gift for the holidays.

Hanne Jeppesen May 29, 2020 at 8:17 PM

I don’t like pumpkin anything, not pumpkin pie, pumpkin latte, or soup etc. Even though my Dad use to grow them and my mother would pickle them.

The Masked (and gloved) Poster May 29, 2020 at 9:10 PM

D) Gingerbread

Lambie May 29, 2020 at 9:42 PM

How about sharing some recipes?

Antler May 29, 2020 at 11:48 PM

Good morning, “S”!

B. Pumpkin bread (made with a lot of cinnamon and all spice…. but NO ginger, please).

Roz May 30, 2020 at 7:11 AM

For the most part, I’m not a pumpkin fan, but,….
B) Pumpkin Bread with lots of Fall spices,…Yum!

Janus May 30, 2020 at 9:47 AM

@ Lambie
Banana (nut, chocolate chip) Bread – makes 2 loaves
4 ripe bananas mashed

1 cup white sugar
1 heaping tablespoon baking powder
1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt – to taste
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 cup oil
2 Eggs
Options – Cinnamon, Walnuts, Chocolate chips
Mix thoroughly – if too dry add a little milk. It should be thick
Butter sides of 2 baking pans (9 in by 5 in) and fill equally
Bake (preheated) at 350 for 50 mins to 1 hour
Test center with toothpick

S May 30, 2020 at 4:32 PM

“B” Luv Pumpkin Bread; the end piece is best.
Which is funny; other than pumpkin seeds, I can’t stand anything pumpkin…

Never met a banana bread I liked; which makes it difficult when people are so proud of their special recipe homemade… Makes me cringe every time. Which is funny, because I like bananas, love banana pies & pudding & the sort…. Never have I turned down a banana split….

But…. “B” Pumpkin Bread.

paranoid pablito May 29, 2020 at 7:07 PM

A little boy and his grandmother were walking along the seashore when a huge wave appeared out of nowhere and swept the child out to sea. The grandmother, horrified, falls to her knees and says “God, please return my beloved grandson. Please, I beg of you. Send him back safely.” Suddenly another huge wave washed in and deposited the little boy on the sand at her feet. She picked him up, looked him over, and, looking up at the sky, said “He had a hat!”

The MDUSD superintendent was fired today. He was employed for one school year. Hmmmm, wonder what happened.

Ken May 30, 2020 at 1:17 AM

They decided to invest in a social distance Superintendent?

Concerned Mom May 30, 2020 at 10:51 AM

I just read about this. He was so qualified, and I actually enjoyed reading his letters each week. Why?? Because we need to spend more district money on a new Super? He was terrific. I smell politics. I could be wrong, but this action has me scratching my head. Hmmm…..

Cowellian May 29, 2020 at 7:54 PM

Cowellian’s first!

Antler May 30, 2020 at 12:09 AM

By golly, yes you ARE!
You and family doing all right?

Cowellian May 30, 2020 at 8:05 AM

Good morning Antler. We are getting by. I’m working on a couple of genealogy projects that I’ve been promising myself, and Mrs. Cowellian has switched from making quilts to making masks. And we are getting regular facetime calls from our grandbabies in the Bay Area.

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

Antler May 30, 2020 at 9:49 AM

That’s good news! …. and if things get a bit boring, she can always make quilted masks, right? (Now those should really SELL, come to think of it!)
Happy Day!

Brandi May 29, 2020 at 7:55 PM

OK…. “So Damn Happy”

Ancient Mariner May 29, 2020 at 8:51 PM

I liked that. Thanks!

I had heard about Loudon Wainwright III from a history teacher in high school near NYC. He was considered quite a character for reasons unknown to me. Other than “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road” I had not learned much about him. This is a delightful ditty.

Burnbabyburn May 29, 2020 at 8:25 PM

I’m starting a new movement to support local business.
“hands up, don’t loot.”

Lazy One May 30, 2020 at 8:15 AM

Good one!

Melynn May 29, 2020 at 8:25 PM

Can we PLEASE support this!? It’s time. Our small businesses need our support. Spread the word 🙂

Doh May 30, 2020 at 11:15 AM

I support them by ordering lots of take out. I don’t think we are ready to reopen yet.

SOS May 29, 2020 at 8:42 PM

Folks, this is confusing. I watched a hairdresser who opened her business get arrested and thrown in jail after criminals were released en masse for fear of Corona. And a dad be locked away after playing outside with his child. I am now seeing raging crowds set fire to buildings and tear up police precincts without reprimand. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IN THE NAME OF SATAN IS GOING ON?

jjshawk May 30, 2020 at 12:15 AM

I want someone to tell me what’s really going on. Apparently, the State’s response to Covid-19 is piss-poor leadership at its finest. Nobody can go to AA meetings, but liquor stores fall under the “essential businesses” category. Don’t get me wrong, I like my beer and wine, not complaining about that; however, some of these SIP guidelines do smell like used cat litter. Any action taken by our Government only serves to reinforce fear and compliance,..”stay home”, “wear a mask”, “social distancing”, “don’t go to parks or beaches”,….blah, blah, blah..! Ironically, the same Scientists and Medical experts trusted (cough-cough) by our Politicians offer next to nothing in ways to fortify People’s overall health and immune systems against the Corona virus. It smells like there’s a lot at play behind the scenes, more than our “trusted” leaders want us to know.

ZZ May 30, 2020 at 10:30 AM

Yes, it’s interesting how those in charge, especially the CDC and county health officials never advise society on healthy life styles to combat the virus.
There definitely is a dark reason for this insane overreaction to a virus.

SOS May 30, 2020 at 1:00 PM

Do you believe that Newsom and Pelosi and the other elites who live in a castle on Planet Oblivion really care about minority folks or do they know that they are the ticket to votes/ power? Speak honestly, I want to know. I would think that if Gavin and Jennifer loooove their followers so much that they would want to move where they are and live among them to make real change (Mexico, anyone?). Last night the thunder in the sky was so scary. It honestly felt like God was angry at Oakland. Footage on KTVU of punks taking cigs, alcohol and condoms. Yes, please go have sex and procreate more problems.

Mitch May 29, 2020 at 9:17 PM

Does anyone think Contra Costa might follow behind SF’s timeline of reopening?

We can’t have riots! We’re under a SIP…. suddenly social distancing and Covid-19 isn’t as important as it once was….

Dewey's Mom June 3, 2020 at 2:34 AM

Directives and orders are for the law abiding, politicians, looters and rioters do not have to follow the rules!

littletoe May 29, 2020 at 10:13 PM

Why are people rioting over a criminal and drug abuser who died in police custody? Blows my mind.

Bad Nombre May 29, 2020 at 10:51 PM

Allegedly passing a counterfeit bill is a capital offense?!!

jjshawk May 30, 2020 at 12:41 AM

Now we know (one reason) why some cops don’t like to be video recorded in public, by the public.

Brandi May 30, 2020 at 7:30 AM

On the bright side nobody exhibited any prejudice towards the Chinese.

Hanne Jeppesen May 30, 2020 at 11:30 AM

Because the police officer is not the judge, jury and executioner! No one gets the death penalty for trying to pass a $20.00 check, even if he had a history of unlawful behavior. We are a country of laws, he should have been taking into custody and given his time in court.

Silva May 30, 2020 at 1:32 PM

That is IF he even passed a counterfeit $20 (at this point I don’t have enough information to know why he was being taken into custody), we aren’t in a position to say that he did it knowingly. It happens all too often these days. I’ve unknowingly tried to pass a counterfeit $20, and on another occasion my husband has unknowingly tried to pass a counterfeit $20. We are law abiding people with no criminal records. Both times we were handed the counterfeit $20 by our bank, and would never have known it if not for the sharp eyed merchants we tried to pay with them.

Turn n Burn May 30, 2020 at 2:46 PM

Hanna. I’m sure if he hadn’t resisted arrest from the get go, he would not of been on the ground with an Officer on top of him. If he just listened to the Officers commands like people should, he probably would of just gotten a ticket to appear in court.

S May 30, 2020 at 8:37 AM

didn’t A.T. announce their retirement from this site a week or so ago?

Silva May 30, 2020 at 10:45 AM

When I saw that last amazing collection I thought to myself “This is meant to last us a while”, and I consumed it little by little and savored it slowly all throughout the whole week. For this reason I’m not suffering in the throes of withdrawal at this moment.. it won’t be much longer though. I suppose maybe I can let it go if I must. It would just be so much easier if our dear Atticus Thraxx would pop in once in a while with a golden nugget, a good Thraxxing, or just a hello. I know things change and we do have to make adjustments if we’re to survive in this life, but I’m selfish.

anon May 30, 2020 at 9:40 AM

Has anyone tried those portable air conditioners and if you have, do they work very well?

Brandi May 30, 2020 at 10:42 AM

They are good for a small room or just to cool a specific area (like living room family area or dining area). Be aware you have to run exhaust (hot air) tubing out of a window with provided kit. In my Clayton home I had one in my room that got the most sun. Central AC just could not keep it cool enough, but with the addition of the portable AC it was very cool & pleasant. Mine has adjustable temperature and fan settings plus directional vents. It cost about $300 & no problems for 2 years of use, but not using now since I’m SIP out here in the boonies.

Silva May 30, 2020 at 10:52 AM

Sorry anon, My mom bought me one for my bedroom window when we moved to this furnace of a house in 1971. I gave it away when we put in our last update to creature comfort here about 10 years ago; double glazed windows. It was from Monkey Wards, a Signature, and it still worked exactly as it did when it was new. I have no idea about the latest models though.

Captain Bebops May 30, 2020 at 2:30 PM

I have one in this room and haven’t used it much lately. It’s a Soleus and did the job. What I couldn’t understand is why that company thought that all windows opened vertically. The windows in this room open horizontally (as they do in many houses around here) so I had to kludge a solution for venting.

Dorothy May 30, 2020 at 12:24 PM

Book report, a day late. In Vivo, 1964, Mildred Savage. Actually in spite of its age it is surprisingly current. It is a fiction version of a search for an antibiotic that would help the diseases that penicillin can’t cure. It is now known that antibiotics don’t work on virus but in today’s virus filled news this story should resonate because of the work that needs to be done to find something that will work. A bit on the slow side but interesting.

Hanne Jeppesen May 30, 2020 at 1:57 PM

I have her book, Parrish read it years ago still have it. It was made into a movie starring Troy Donahue (eye candy although mediocre actor) Connie Stevens, Karl Malden and Claudette Colbert, somewhat soapy, but enjoyable never the less. It takes place in Connecticut, a state I have great affection for, since it was my first home for 2 years when I arrived here from Denmark.

Cellophane May 30, 2020 at 2:47 PM

Unusual to see any rain this time of year not to mention a Significant Weather Advisory for our area.

And now, an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory.

Wow, this is fun.

Cellophane May 30, 2020 at 3:12 PM

I just received another Significant Weather Statement for Alameda and COCOCO until 4 PM.

Strong thunderstorms with intense rain rates along a line from Clyde to Los Gatos.

The movement was east at 55 mph.

Antler May 30, 2020 at 5:52 PM

Ancient Mariner! Hey, YOUR memory was correct, too….. rain at the END of May. I wonder for how many other years there has been rain around the 16th and again at the end of the month?

Brandi May 30, 2020 at 6:48 PM

Also in the 2nd or 3rd week of September. Almost every year.

Ancient Mariner May 30, 2020 at 8:18 PM

A surprise to me too – I keep writing to my relatives and saying that the dry season has started, only to get more rain a few days later. It happens each time!

With Covus-19 raging, the opening of various areas was going to show which counties were using the system or method that worked best and potentially showing who was right when dealing with the pandemic. Demonstrations and rioting has scrambled the data and we are now going get an all or nothing result.

Kirkwood June 2, 2020 at 2:49 PM

A little diversion from the week’s madness:

By: Edgar Allan Poe’s Cat

On a night quite unenchanting, when the rain was downward slanting,
I awakened to the ranting of the man I catch mice for.
Tipsy and a bit unshaven, in a tone I found quite craven,
Poe was talking to a Raven perched above the chamber door.
“Raven’s very tasty,” thought I, as I tiptoed o’er the floor,
“There is nothing I’d like more.”
Soft upon the rug I treaded, calm and careful as I headed
Towards his roost atop that dreaded bust of Pallas I deplore.
While the bard and birdie chattered, I made sure that nothing clattered,
Creaked or snapped, or fell, or shattered, as I crossed the corridor;
For Poe’s house is crammed with trinkets, curios and weird decor,
Bric-a-brac and junk galore.
Still the Raven never fluttered, standing stock-still, as he uttered,
In a voice that shrieked and sputtered, his two cents’ worth —
While this dirge the birdbrain kept up, oh so silently I crept up;
Then I crouched and quickly leapt up, pouncing on the feathered bore.
Soon he was a heap of plumage, and a little blood and gore —
Only this, and not much more.

“Ooooh!” my pickled poet cried out, “Pussycat, it’s time I dried out!
Never sat I in my hideout talking to a bird before;
How I’ve wallowed in self-pity, while my gallant, valiant kitty
Put an end to that damned ditty” — then I heard him start to snore.
Back atop the door I clambered, eyed that statue I abhor,
Jumped — and smashed it to the floor.

Our hearts are so heavy right now for so many different, major reasons. But I just wonder whether doing something silly together might help. You don’t have to go to a link or to identify yourself in any way. Please play! (I’ll put my own answer after each step and then will give my whole dragon name… as of right this very minute.)

What’s Your Dragon Name?
1. Give your first name, spelled backwards:
2. What is your emotional mood right now?
3. “Hoarder of ”…… “, (the last thing you ate).
4. “and” (the item directly to your left…)
So my dragon name is… (drum roll)
“Aivlys the Overwhelmed, Hoarder of Hummus and Catalogs“

Your turn!

Silva June 2, 2020 at 6:27 PM

Haha!!! “Avlis the blue, Hoarder of Salad and Beadsteads“🤣

S the Hopeful, Hoarder of Coffee and Pencils

I was “Hopeful” that my name would be more exciting.

At work could see news choppers over marina district of Pittsburg, protest march.

Coming back from work noticed shell station YV and Clayton was in process of barricading entrances, bike shop next door is all boarded up. Tried to go to Clayton Post Office, streets are barricaded and business’ windows are boarded up.

Just now coming back from Post office at Treat and Clayton noticed Concord PD is massing at valero station Clayton an YV and they have K9 units.

Clayton should have left curfew in place.
