Looks like three got out of the hospital but one the wrong way.

Again, ZERO new cases in Claycord land. Woohoo!!

Pinole isn’t on the list anymore.

I wish our Contra Costa Health Services website included information about recoveries. Have we had none? It would be interesting data to include, and other counties do.

Chuckie’s Wife April 19, 2020 - 4:54 PM - 4:54 PM

They should also track deaths that are not CV-19, but related, such as homicides, suicides, heart attacks, strokes, etc. Lots of depressed and anxious people out there, but I guess it’s not in any politician’s interest to know what those numbers are.

Legal Eagle April 19, 2020 - 3:33 PM - 3:33 PM

One of my family members in Concord recently tested positive after a visit to Kaiser. The other members in his household have exhibited flu-like symptoms but have not been tested.

The official numbers are not accurate, to say the least.

For your own protection, please wear masks, gloves, and goggles while out in public.

Safety Second April 19, 2020 - 5:45 PM - 5:45 PM

20 deaths so far in Contra Costa County and 1200 in California from the Wuhan virus. Each year influenza kills 250+ Contra Costans and over 6000 Californians. Shame on everyone of you for not sheltering in place each year during the flu season. People, put things in perspective… The sky is not falling. We actually need to be out amongst each other to build-up herd immunity, otherwise we’ll never get a grip of this thing. SIP is actually the most irresponsible and failed solution to this pandemic. Stop this ridiculous hysteria and let’s get back to work people. Do you idiots understand the ramifications of over 20 million unemployed Americans!?!?!? If you really do care about mortality rates then why don’t YOU shelter in place every flu season since we average over 50,000 Dead Americans from influenza.

Bobfished April 19, 2020 - 6:41 PM - 6:41 PM

I agree, time to get back to work! Now!

I do agree that COVID-19 can be more deadly than the flu. The social distancing is good and probably needs to continue for at least a while.
Wear a mask if you want, I have no problem with that. However, this is just a glimpse of what life could be like in a socialist progressive government controlled society. Ultimate freedom has its price. Unfortunately, that means good people get sick/die. Whether COVID-19, heart disease, or rock climbing. Protect yourself and others as best you can, but God forbid, you gotta’ live.

AGREED! AGREED!
Where do I find the like button?

Ozzie April 19, 2020 - 9:57 PM - 9:57 PM

The 50k deaths are for a year not 2 months. If we have 30 k for 2 months we will have 180k for the year.

This is what’s going on in states with no shelter in place.

“ The bump in coronavirus cases is most pronounced in states without stay at home orders. Oklahoma saw a 53% increase in cases over the past week, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Over same time, cases jumped 60% in Arkansas, 74% in Nebraska, and 82% in Iowa. South Dakota saw a whopping 205% spike.”

So yes it’s low here and we’ve done a good job. But it’s not over.

Safety Second April 20, 2020 - 4:46 AM - 4:46 AM

Hey Ozzie, Either you been duped

Safety Second April 20, 2020 - 4:53 AM - 4:53 AM

Hey Ozzie…Please be honest and stop the spread of your fake news. You owe an apology to Claycord …. Get educated and read these two articles:
https://www.ktvu.com/news/stanford-antibody-study-suggests-covid-19-more-widespread-than-official-confirmed-cases and https://www.healthline.com/health/influenza/facts-and-statistics

Pyrrhus April 20, 2020 - 8:31 AM - 8:31 AM

What exactly is Ozzie saying that is wrong? 42,000 people died of COVID19 in a little less than 2 months. According to the CDC, somewhere between 24,000 to 62,000 people died of Influenza since October 2019. COVID19 deaths are most likely under reported due to a lack of testing.

Yes, we all know that COVID fatality rate isn’t as high as first reported. However, look at South Korea who took this seriously right from the beginning and had extensive testing. They’ve had 236 deaths out of 10,674 confirimed cases, that is still a 2.2% mortality rate. Influenza is a 0.5% mortality rate, COVID19 is not a joke.

You people want to go back to work, how are you going to work if you’re dead. The sad thing is, the people on this website are older and are the most at risk. Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for the economy? I want you to think of 100 people that you know and care about. Call up two of them and say “Hey I thought up 100 people I care about and you’re the one I’m willing to let die so I can work.”

You want to blame someone? FIrst blame the President for his poor leadership. Second, blame the government for spending trillion on meaningless wars and bailing out big business instead of building a safety net for Americans. What good is your private healthcare now that you are laid off?

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:2019%E2%80%9320_coronavirus_pandemic_data

Ozzie April 20, 2020 - 8:48 AM - 8:48 AM

Safety. I don’t owe jack.

Actually we’re at 40k deaths nationwide for 2 months so annually that would be 240k deaths way worse than the flu

And what about those other states huh? No comment on John Hopkins? Does your job involve travel to one of them? Bring it back home. No thanks.

When we get enough antibody testing done we’ll have data to make a decision. No knee jerk decisions now.

parent April 20, 2020 - 9:46 AM - 9:46 AM

@Pryhuss
What are you smoking? COVID19 deaths are not under reported at all, they are over reported by a large margin. You do not even have even have to test positive to be counted as a statistic anymore. If the doctor thinks you have a symptom/sign, you are counted.Take a look at the decline in cardiac related deaths since the COVID fear started, or the diabetes decline. Why are they declining, cause we all of a sudden got better with are heart and glucose monitoring? Doubt that! I believe (and much smarter people than me are saying it) that the decline is because we are reporting them as COVID19 deaths instead. Why, because it is easier. Why, because people can get more funding. Why, cause we want our population to live in fear. If you doubt this, go check out the CDC guidelines provided to doctors about how to report a death at this time.

@ Ozzie
The flue is not rampant 12 months out of the year, so you really can’t just multiple the rate at 2 months by 6 to get an annual number. Doesn’t quite work that way.

@ Sense
Wear a mask every day for the rest of your time on earth? Asthma patients might be at risk if you do that. The germs that will fester in those masks because they will not be washed regularly. The simple fact that those masks do not prevent YOU from catching something and only have LIMITED effects on preventing you from spreading something. The heat rashes that will start from the constant use of masks, that then require medical attention … I like my freedom and I will not wear a mask everyday for the rest of my life.

Pyrrhus April 20, 2020 - 1:26 PM - 1:26 PM

@Parent

We were absolutely under reporting COVID19 in cases and death Early on.We didn’t have kits to even do tests! Also, please give me a credible source that says we were counting other deaths as COVID19. Please supply me with evidence from health experts and not some loud mouth idiot on youtube who took biology in high school 20 years ago.

People, you are going to only prolong all this with your idiotic protests. Also, please tell me how crashing the economy is good for liberals? We all need money, not just the right wingers. Thank God for the brave health care workers that blocked those idiots from protesting in Denver. It’s hilarious that they are insulting them when they will be the ones being treated for their stupidity. They should turn down medical attention.

parent April 20, 2020 - 9:21 PM - 9:21 PM

Pyrrhus

CNN, does that count? Here is an excerpt from an article based on the CDC instructions on April 7, I hope that is recent enough.

“The simplest answer is that CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics reports the deaths that have Covid-19 listed on the death certificate” as a contributor to death, a CDC spokesperson said. CDC guidance states that testing should be conducted whenever possible, but that when a definite diagnosis can’t be made, it is “acceptable to report Covid-19 on a death certificate as ‘probable’ or ‘presumed'” if “the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty.”

That last sentence leaves a lot up in the air … and leaves plenty of room for subjective determination.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/06/health/coronavirus-coroners-uncounted-deaths-invs/index.html

There is also NBC from the same date.
Two excerpts: ” A newborn baby in Louisiana died on Sunday after a mother with COVID-19 went into premature labor.” & ” But Clark said state health officials are still naming COVID-19 as the cause of the death of the baby, who was born at 22 weeks gestation.”

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/newborn-louisiana-dies-after-mom-covid-19-goes-preterm-labor-n1178211

Los Angeles Times, March 29th.
“An Illinois infant with COVID-19 has died, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Saturday. The cause of death is unknown, ” I think you would agree, with does not mean the cause …, right?

https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-03-29/illinois-infant-with-covid-19-dies-cause-of-death-unknown

Hope this helps clarify my position.

As for prolonging this … we don’t get that choice, do we. That resides with governor and president, to bad neither are following the science.

For fun, check out this article, LA says more people are infected after a test similar to the one done by Santa Clara and San Mateo. Based on their studies, following the conservative approach, we have a mortality rate of 0.35%. This matches similar studies in Germany. Check it out, I am not some Youtube idiot … nor am I quoting myself.

Gloves are disgusting if you aren’t changing them after each contact made it’s no different than bare hands with the exception that people with gloves wash hands less. Most sanitary is STILL frequent handwashing, bonus if you use hand sanitizer in between.

Legal Eagle April 19, 2020 - 7:42 PM - 7:42 PM

Goggles are a great idea.

Viruses, like COVID-19, can enter your body through mucosa membrane. That means your nose, mouth, and yes… even your eyes. I wear it when I have to go out in public. It gives myself and others peace of mind.

Gloves are also a useful protectant. If you touch a surface with an active virus particle, you can unknowingly carry it on yourself and into an otherwise green household. People involuntarily touch their face multiple times every hour with their hands.

parent April 20, 2020 - 11:49 AM - 11:49 AM

Legal
If I saw someone walking down the street wearing goggles, a mask and gloves, I would report a suspicious person. I would also bust out laughing because I would think that the suspicious person is trying to hide their face, but do not realize how obvious (and funny) they look and how memorable they will be.
Gloves are ONLY good if you are changing them out after you come into contact with something. So, if you go shopping with them, and then touch your car, you just contaminated your car. The only way to clean your car is a full decon. Then, you touch your door knob at your house … or your phone … or your car keys, that is called cross-contamination. Unless you are willing to wear gloves for the REST of your life, and know how to properly remove contaminated gloves ( you are the double glove method, right?) you will continue to cross contaminate surfaces and people.

Trump’s doing an AWESOME job keeping the economy shut down, eh?

How come none of the Trump supporters on Claycord ever call him out specifically by NAME when they post about opening up the economy and government exerting far too much control over our lives?

Ever notice that his supporters here conveniently leave his NAME out in their post? Who do they think the GOVT is ???

And he wont do anything to help coordinate testing with the states regarding supply chain issues like nasal swabs, media kits for transporting the swabs, and reagents. He doesn’t want to show any LEADERSHIP when it comes to testing. Zero.

Why?

Because its too risky if the virus spike up and people fault the lack of testing. It gives him yet another option to play the BLAME game. That’s why!

Mike W, Ozzie, We are a few that are on the same page. Trump supporters cannot bring themselves to criticize Trump, I guess they think it against their loyalty to him. They go after us that are liberals, in fact you don’t have to be a liberal, you just have to disagree with them and they will brand you as a liberal, which in their mind seem to be as bad as being branded a witch in the middle ages.
They will take any kind of shots at the opposition, but if you try to point out facts all you get is “fake new”.

Michael 1 April 21, 2020 - 7:59 AM - 7:59 AM

Trump plays the blame game that is true .But that is a drop in the bucket compared to you liberals’ and your media and Hollywood and corrupt , lying politicians (Pelosi ,Shiff ) . There’s no need to stand on the seat, corona virus can jump 10 feet!

The FACT is…that this virus has already spread out into the general population, as initial random sampling in Santa Clara, Boston, etc…have demonstrated. Stamping out this virus is impossible. At some point we are going to have to get back to work because the alternative is unemployment, starvation, and the collapse of our society. Our civilization is more fragile than you might imagine.

I am not suggesting that people abandon well thought out safety measures, but they need to be effective. You can contaminate yourself with PPE’s very easily. So unless you have been trained on how to use them properly, they probably are doing no good except for a placebo effect.

In the mean time, how many people are dying because they aren’t going to the doctor? How many from stress, depression, substance abuse, etc…which can be linked to this shutdown?

Bobfished April 20, 2020 - 10:55 AM - 10:55 AM

Here we are a few months from the election and I have not heard Joe Bidens plan for dealing with the coronavirus or getting the economy started. I would really like to know, since he is running for president, what his plans are.

Mike Wagner April 20, 2020 - 12:47 PM - 12:47 PM

Biden released a plan back on March 12th as to how he would combat the coronavirus. You must have missed it.

And on April 12th, he laid out a plan on how to go about re-opening the economy.

I’m sure that you can easily find it doing a Google search.

Bobfished April 20, 2020 - 3:12 PM - 3:12 PM

I found the Biden plan, Wow, this will fix everything.
The Biden Plan calls for:

Restoring trust, credibility, and common purpose.
Mounting an effective national emergency response that saves lives, protects frontline workers, and minimizes the spread of COVID-19.
Eliminating cost barriers for prevention of and care for COVID-19.
Pursuing decisive economic measures to help hard-hit workers, families, and small businesses and to stabilize the American economy.
Rallying the world to confront this crisis while laying the foundation for the future.

To Do List April 20, 2020 - 4:33 PM - 4:33 PM

Thank you very much for Biden’s platform. Looks like they should have run their random political phrase generator a second time because it didn’t pick up the word “synergies” and left out the mandatory cutting government fat.

Safety Second April 20, 2020 - 10:56 AM - 10:56 AM

Wagner, Pyrrhus, and Ozzie have no skin in the game like the 20 million unemployed Americans. I’m guessing you still get your government check on time? They blindly follow the narrative of career politicians and government bureaucrats who already fail miserably at managing public schools and pensions. Start being honest with the data by dividing deaths into population… Not “confirmed cases.” You guys are irresponsible dupes who in all probability didn’t shelter in place two years ago when flu deaths in California were 6340 (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/states/california/california.htm). People, we need to get back to work with or without social distancing! The consequences have already devastated our economy and the outlook is quite grim as each day goes by with SIP.

Mike Wagner April 20, 2020 - 12:45 PM - 12:45 PM

How’s your boy doing Safety Second?
Did he finally get around to reading the U.S. Constitution last week?

“When somebody’s President of the United States, the authority is total. And that’s the way it’s got to be. It’s total. It’s total. And the Governors know that.”

Pyrrhus April 20, 2020 - 1:34 PM - 1:34 PM

I have plenty of skin in the game. I’m still working from home and earlining a living unlike most people on claycord that are retired. However, I know if this lasts much longer I will be furloughed, then yes I will collect unemployment like everyone else. I also have two elderly parents, one that is very much at risk due to a heart condition. I don’t want to see them or anyone else I love die. My wife’s family is already suffering in New Jersey as they had a close family friend die of COVID19.

Also, you like to keep throwing out Influenza but don’t like talking about mortality rate difference or how much more infectious COVID 19 is. I posted above from the CDC, COVID19 has spread faster (despite the shelter in place) than Influenza has in the last 6 months. I truly wish all you doubters would catch it and get a good scare, I don’t want you to die, just realize this isn’t a joke or some political game.

Hanne Jeppesen April 20, 2020 - 1:46 PM - 1:46 PM

I’m furloughed, I got 2 weeks pay, and the government stimulus. I just filed for unemployment. I’m in better position than many, but not because of government checks. I got hurt very bad in the 2008 recession, lost almost everything, I was self employed commission only.
That was a wake up call, and when I got employed again, I worked hard, pick up as many hours as I could. Saved money every week in savings and 401K, I also kept my expenses low, have no credit card debt, only a small payment on a uses Toyota Camry. Because I’m over 65 I get social security, but as we all know living on social security in the Bay Area is not easy. I don’t know when I will be called back to work, and for how many hours, because of my age I might be one of the last ones called, or could be because I have been with the company 10 years, I have some seniority. So don’t know, so I’m being very frugal, and of course there isn’t much to spend money on, unless you buy on the internet.

Ozzie April 20, 2020 - 11:46 AM - 11:46 AM

I’m good let’s go.

Trump last night

“A great work has been going on and we could have an answer tomorrow and we’re going to see what — what exactly does take place.”

Bobfished April 20, 2020 - 12:16 PM - 12:16 PM

We now know that FBI agents — operating at the behest of powerful appointees of the Obama administration — deliberately doctored foreign intelligence to obtain secret warrants to spy on an active political campaign for president. In the United States of America.

This is no longer opinion or speculation. This is fact, backed up by exhaustive investigation and extensive evidence. The fact that these massive abuses are getting short-shrift in the media today only reveals the extent to which the media has been a co-conspirator in this travesty of justice.

They have become outright defenders of a police state, where spying on innocent Americans seeking political office is now perfectly acceptable to them.

Meanwhile, in Congress, the most powerful Democrats in the land knew what was going on and encouraged it. All for sick partisan gain.

To cover their tracks, they lied and accused their political opponents of doing exactly what they themselves did: Using foreign disinformation straight out of Moscow to sow discord and win an election here in the United States.

Again, this is not some hot-headed opinion from a crazy conspiracy theorist. Or, at least, it’s not just that. It also happens to be the stone-cold truth.

Mike Wagner April 20, 2020 - 12:53 PM - 12:53 PM

Hanne, everything you say is true.

The funny part is that I’m not even a liberal. I’m a 4th generation Californian that actually voted for Ronald Reagan while an undergrad in college.

Even more ironic is the fact that Trump isn’t even a Conservative.

Moreover, the GOP no longer holds dear any of their core values anymore, and no Republican has ever stood up to Trump for fear of being bashed by “tweet”. That’s how cowardly they’ve become. People like “Lying Ted Cruz” and “Little Marco Rubio” haven’t said a peep after getting bashed into oblivion by Trump during the campaign. Only Mitt Romney and John McCain have ever been openly been critical of Trump. The rest of the GOP just sits there doing nothing. Theyre cowards.

Americans have done a better-than-expected job of social distancing and staying at home, but if they stop now, government projections estimate a total of 300,000 deaths. And some outside experts think that’s too rosy.

By the White House Coronavirus Task Force

Federal health officials estimated in early April that more than 300,000 Americans could die from COVID-19 if all social distancing measures are abandoned, and later estimates pushed the possible death toll even higher, according to documents obtained by the Center for Public Integrity. Some outside experts say even that grim outlook may be too optimistic.

The documents, created by the Department of Health and Human Services, spell out the data and analysis the agency is sharing with other federal agencies to help shape their responses to the coronavirus.

interesting comment and showing exactly what Trump wants to do here. It is simply red meat for his base which is not sophisticated enough to even understand the issues. You seem not to grasp what “immigration” actually means and just equate it with “foreigeners”. He is not including visitors into his suspension suggestion. I would put to you that there are many more visitors than immigrants crossing our borders and obviously suspending immigration would not really affect spreading of the coronavirus in a meaningful way given that non-immigrants still would be able to enter the US.
H
is argument is actually that he wants to suspend immigration to protect th jobs for the American workers. If he can show this to be true it may make sense, however I do not that his businesses in the past have argued that they need immigrants. Maybe COVID has changed this. It remains to be seen.
