City of Concord numbers keep climbing higher. This is frightening.

Oh, please April 14, 2020 - 7:36 PM - 7:36 PM

It’s not really that many.

Frank April 14, 2020 - 9:56 PM - 9:56 PM

58 out of 125000… frightening? What is really frightening is that someone would find that frightening.

Candy April 15, 2020 - 11:24 AM - 11:24 AM

@Frank, Let’s see how you would react if just one of your family members became sick with this virus. Tell me that would not be frightening. 58 out of your 125000 is too many. No compassion from you.

Civil Dis April 14, 2020 - 6:56 PM - 6:56 PM

Incredibly low numbers. Infection rate was supposed to be 40-70% and we are at .055%. BEGIN THE PROCESS OF GETTING PEOPLE BACK TO WORK NOW!

WC Resident April 14, 2020 - 7:13 PM - 7:13 PM

Over the past ten days 9% of the people tested show as infected. We don’t know if that’s because they are only testing people that show strong signs of already being infected or if the community infection rate is closer to 9%. Per the numbers released today, 16% of the people tested were infected.

Until the antibody tests are released and widely used we won’t know the community infection rate. It’s not .055% for sure but hopefully is very high as that means we have achieved herd immunity.

Smart Alleck April 14, 2020 - 7:25 PM - 7:25 PM

Yesterday was 13 cases more and now we’re at 48 more cases than yesterday, I would say now more than ever is the best time to be cautiously safe and inside your house. Peak week is seeming to begin now.

Mike Wagner April 15, 2020 - 2:36 PM - 2:36 PM

I guess you never took Calculus and studied rates of change?

hp124 April 14, 2020 - 6:57 PM - 6:57 PM

Wow that’s a jump

Unfortunately April 14, 2020 - 7:08 PM - 7:08 PM

Yesterday’s numbers were the lowest now today we have the highest , I had a feeling the numbers were going to jump after the Easter weekend

Thinking in Concord April 14, 2020 - 7:51 PM - 7:51 PM

Today’s numbers are not likely a result of Easter. That was 2 days ago. The virus doesn’t show for 5-14 days, if I’m correct.

Natalie April 15, 2020 - 11:10 AM - 11:10 AM

Easter was 3 days ago, but Holy Week or Spring Break started a week before that. There were plenty of people who got lax in following the health recommendations, and enough time has passed that we would start to see it reflect in the statistics.

Maybe this group of 48 new cases is the start of a second wave of infections. However, it’s only one data point, so it’s much too early to say if that’s true.

Bobfished April 14, 2020 - 7:20 PM - 7:20 PM

Get people back to work! Every business will be unique in how they deal with reopening but it needs to happen now! We can not wait for the government to do this, they have no idea how to do it, it’s up to us, the people.

Silva April 15, 2020 - 12:13 AM - 12:13 AM

You first.

Boulders April 14, 2020 - 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Bobfish, go infect yourself, if you want. I don’t want no part of your open business! My Life is more important then your Business.

Bobfished April 14, 2020 - 8:48 PM - 8:48 PM

Sorry Boulders,
I work at a hospital so I guess your going to have a problem.

Gittyup April 14, 2020 - 9:53 PM - 9:53 PM

Amazes me that the medical profession has pretty much hoarded and co-opted all the N-95 masks, in effect forcing everyone else to stay home. At least they’re protected! You’d think they would be eager to get those masks to the most vulnerable to protect the most vulnerable from getting the virus, or giving it. It’s supposed to be a profession caring about others, but it looks like all they care about is protecting themselves. They’re looking very scaredy cat and self-interested. Oh, right. If they get sick they can’t help the sick. They deal with disease every day. Why so particular all of a sudden? Rhetorical question.

Not Surprised April 14, 2020 - 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

I continue to see people gathering at and around Cambridge Park in groups of over 10 so not surprised that the Concord numbers went up.

Oh, please April 14, 2020 - 7:37 PM - 7:37 PM

So we got more tests and tested more people then?

ZZ April 14, 2020 - 8:34 PM - 8:34 PM

Wear a mask and gloves = open businesses.

JRocks April 14, 2020 - 8:37 PM - 8:37 PM

Don’t you get the feeling that the numbers don’t matter?

LimeRidge Larry April 14, 2020 - 9:32 PM - 9:32 PM

JRocks,

100% Correcto! It’s the liberal authoritarian government of Newsom looking for a power grab.

Aunt Barbara April 14, 2020 - 9:01 PM - 9:01 PM

false estimates to go along with our dear Governor Nuisance speech

Blueberry April 14, 2020 - 9:54 PM - 9:54 PM

So, I can’t go out until I’m immune, which now only happens if I get infected, but I’m required to stay home to prevent getting infected. Do I have this right?

John P April 14, 2020 - 9:57 PM - 9:57 PM

Me, I think this natural response to human overpopulation, environmental destruction, and abhorrent behavior was overdue. We’ve been asking for it for many decades; why is everyone so surprised that we’ve got a problem? We’re a nasty little species and self extinction may be our epitaph. I can die with that. I feel for the young, who never had a chance to live, but it was never under my control. Young folks: I apologize for the self-serving, greedy behavior of my generation and those generations before mine. It’s not that we didn’t know things like this could happen; our leaders didn’t care.

Aunt Barbara April 14, 2020 - 10:56 PM - 10:56 PM

unfortunately most Gen X are still on Spring break whooping it up and won’t get your message.

nytemuvr April 14, 2020 - 11:30 PM - 11:30 PM

@John P…That story would make a good movie, oh nevermind, it was, it was called Soylent Green. You may have just had what is commonly known as a “flashback” , it happens, they told us that back in the 70s.

Wait a minute April 14, 2020 - 11:40 PM - 11:40 PM

Thank you, John. It’s not just our leaders that didn’t care. The majority are self-seeking and don’t think of the ripple effect of all that they do. We are all connected, but most people don’t behave that way.

Silva April 15, 2020 - 12:11 AM - 12:11 AM

Yep.

Mtz April 15, 2020 - 7:38 AM - 7:38 AM

Sorry Aunt Barbara but the same Gen x that raised themselves while their hippy boomer parents partied through the 70’s and 80’s are the ones that are going to pull us through this thanks.

ZZ April 15, 2020 - 8:24 AM - 8:24 AM

Oh please, viruses and sicknesses have been around since the beginning of time.

Bad Nombre April 14, 2020 - 10:02 PM - 10:02 PM

Science can only inform. Scientists should not make policy lest they cease to be scientists. The role of leadership MUST be played by others.

Antler April 14, 2020 - 10:53 PM - 10:53 PM

Today at the Denkinger/Clayton Rd. Safeway, fewer than half of the shoppers were wearing at least “improvised” masks and gloves! They are either idiots or selfish….. on top of being STUPID. Why do the stores not forbid entry unless people are protecting themselves and others?

We need this virus GONE….. not just doing a trickster flattening curve… or it will rebound even more ferociously.

LJ April 15, 2020 - 6:52 AM - 6:52 AM

While in Costco half the people wearing masks are not even wearing the mask properly so what good does it do?

Gittyup April 16, 2020 - 11:23 AM - 11:23 AM

@ Antler Just because you’re obsessed with news about COVID-19 doesn’t mean the rest of the Concord is. Some people don’t watch the news and would have no idea why people are wearing masks except that they might be sick. In fact, wearing a mask unless it’s a N95 won’t protect you from an airborn virus and since they are in short supply (in fact ALL masks are in short supply) you’re either an idiot or selfish to make such a stupid comment. People can’t get masks, but they probably don’t want to starve to death, either.

Aunt Barbara April 14, 2020 - 11:03 PM - 11:03 PM

SORRY MEANT GEN Z the unisex ones

HappyPappy April 14, 2020 - 11:51 PM - 11:51 PM

.002% of Californians have died from the virus.

Snickerdad April 15, 2020 - 12:02 PM - 12:02 PM

What nobody is talking about is how mean of the people that have died of this virus were already at death’s door. I feel sorry for anybody that catches this virus and their families. But I like to see some real numbers.

Ano April 15, 2020 - 4:09 AM - 4:09 AM

Kind of like abortion. Not a political issue it’s a medical issue. But the corona virus attacks both sex’s.

Antonius April 15, 2020 - 6:37 AM - 6:37 AM

The county has been driving around testing the homeless, they did a group that hangs around Willow Pass park on Monday. Now they need to go test that entire gang that sits at the corner of Willow Pass and Port Chicago highway.

Tugboat April 15, 2020 - 8:36 AM - 8:36 AM

From Contra Costa County reports it seems that five cities within CoCo County contributed 41% of the Covid-19 cases. They would be Richmond, Concord, Pittsburg, Antioch, and Brentwood. Perhaps mitigation (ie, social distancing) should be enforced in those communities.

Turn n Burn April 15, 2020 - 9:52 AM - 9:52 AM

Well I can say that Concord Blvd. is super busy. Tons of cars like a normal day before all this happened, and a lot more people walking and riding bikes.

Mike Wagner April 15, 2020 - 2:15 PM - 2:15 PM

“What nobody is talking about is how many of the people that have died of this virus were already at death’s door. I feel sorry for anybody that catches this virus and their families. But I like to see some real numbers.” — Snickerdad

You sound like that arrogant clown from Faux News named Bill O’Reilly.

“The people that died were already on their last leg.”

No big deal.

Rollo Tomasi April 15, 2020 - 3:09 PM - 3:09 PM

So the number of dead who had one or more comorbidities at the time of death has no impact on the true danger posed by this virus?

parent April 16, 2020 - 8:41 AM - 8:41 AM

@ Mike
The real question is, did SARS2 cause their death? If not, then they should NOT be counted in the death rate. Would you not agree?

It sucks to have a loved one die, been there and done that, like most people on this forum. But wouldn’t you like to know what actually caused their death? Wouldn’t you like to know the real reason they died? I know I would! I know I would want to know what killed them and not have smoke blown at me because some leader(s) are trying to justify their actions.

mtzman April 16, 2020 - 10:05 AM - 10:05 AM

We have been told since day 1 that certain people have greater susceptibility to the virus, i.e., the elderly, diabetics, etc., etc., We’ve also been told that most people will survive and many people will see mild symptoms, so it stands to reason that virtually everyone who dies having had the virus also had a comorbidity. Trying to slice the semantics into causation versus contribution really does not seem useful when natural causes are involved.

Rollo Tomasi April 17, 2020 - 9:07 AM - 9:07 AM

The answer is simple. A frightened populace is easier to control.

Gittyup April 16, 2020 - 11:31 AM - 11:31 AM

Then, after you have read and followed the instructions on the Disinfectant Spray and Disinfectant Wipes, thoroughly wiped down the area you are disinfecting, AND LET IT DRY, if it is going to be touching areas where food is processed it must be rinsed with clear water. Also, the Disinfectant Spray and Disinfectant Wipes should NOT TOUCH YOUR SKIN. If they do, it needs to be washed away immediately.
