Open it up.

Ozzie April 13, 2020 - 2:41 PM - 2:41 PM

Newsom’s plan comes out Tuesday. The west coast will be back to work.

S April 13, 2020 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

learned today that these “tests” have over a 30% false negative rate…

info only, do what you will with it….

Gittyup April 13, 2020 - 5:11 PM - 5:11 PM

This is shaping up to be just one cockamamie experiment. I think the medical profession believes it can silence the anti-vaxxers once and for all with this quarantine and SIP, and make their jobs easier in the process. Have you seen some of those nurses? They are worse than morbidly obese. Their feet must be killing them at the end of a shift lugging all that fat around. And, we’re supposed to follow their advice? Must be a terrifically unsatisfying occupation if they have to eat like that to compensate

Ricardoh April 13, 2020 - 1:12 PM - 1:12 PM

I see there is one more from the Creek. It would help to know where that person has been the last couple of weeks. We will never know but it would help.

lol April 18, 2020 - 1:13 AM - 1:13 AM

Even if y’all knew every place that person had been, it wouldn’t matter. Because who knows how many people they came in contact with while they were out, and who knows where those people went afterward. There’s no point in finding out where they’ve been, and it shouldn’t matter.

Anon April 13, 2020 - 1:17 PM - 1:17 PM

It’s already happening in Ohio.

Quarantine is when you restrict the movement of a sick person, tyranny is when you restrict the movement of a healthy person.

JazzMan April 13, 2020 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

People complain, “I was orders to stay inside for 4 weeks, and nothing happened. Hardly anyone got sick.

Exactly!

Pete V April 13, 2020 - 3:42 PM - 3:42 PM

Anon,
The overriding stated purpose for this hysteria-induced national shutdown, driven by ridiculously wrong models, was to prevent hospitals from being overrun. There are some hotspot hospitals in NYC, but even those aren’t being overrun…even the Javits Center and USNS Comfort are practically empty, nationwide there are hospitals that are ghost towns, thousands of medical workers have had hours reduced, been furloughed, or even laid off, the most work some still-employed nurses have to do is choreograph and rehearse dance routines for social media. Given the aforementioned, tell why we wouldn’t open back up, and if not full-scale, then at least some kind of gradual approach.

Pete V April 13, 2020 - 3:53 PM - 3:53 PM

Sorry, reply was for JazzMan, not Anon.

Natalie April 13, 2020 - 3:54 PM - 3:54 PM

No, Ohio hasn’t lifted it’s shutdown. There is a task force that is meeting this week to consider options but no plan nor any timetable has been announced yet. It is possible that rural parts of Ohio will open before the rest of the state does.

All states are working towards a plan to reopen and are weighing the options. So it’s not even the case that Ohio is doing something that other states aren’t. Last week, a joint taskforce representing Washington, Oregon and California began a frame work for a phase out of the shutdown.

Even Trump, speaking at today’s press conference, wouldn’t commit to May 1st as being the guaranteed day of lifting the shutdown.

Pat April 13, 2020 - 1:35 PM - 1:35 PM

Protect nursing home residents, persons with asthma and other concerning health conditions from the spread of this deadly virus.

Ozzie April 13, 2020 - 1:54 PM - 1:54 PM

Great idea.

How would you do that?

Original G April 13, 2020 - 2:54 PM - 2:54 PM

From Los Angeles Times yesterday,
‘California moves to protect nursing home residents from the coronavirus’

Healthy residents at stricken facilities will be moved to Navy hospital ship Mercy in Los Angeles to avoid exposure to coronavirus.

Too bad those giving newsom these good ideas will never get the recognition they so richly deserve.

Ozzie April 13, 2020 - 4:36 PM - 4:36 PM

Og not everyone can go on a boat.

Just how would you do it?

Original G April 13, 2020 - 5:41 PM - 5:41 PM

You’re kidding, right ?

It’s not a boat.
USNS Mercy is currently moored at Los Angeles cruise ship terminal. It’s length is 894 feet, has a beam of 106 feet, has displacement of 65,552 tons and has 1000 patient beds.

BILL GRAM-REEFER April 13, 2020 - 2:57 PM - 2:57 PM

I just walked around Todos Santos Plaza to day at 2:30. I had my mask on, the dog did not. Of 44 people I saw, including gangs of teenagers, a group of 5-6 elderly hertiagte resident clustered! together at the corner of the park across from Peet’s, other people walking their dogs, people going into shops—only 2 of 44 had masks on.

We could start up the economy immediately if people were required to wear masks in public. Retailers should only admit people with masks or hand them out at the door as necessary for the the disagreeable. If we really want to get back to business and protect each other and the frail and elderly at the same time, everyone needs to wear a mask! I have a set of balaclavas, bandanas, even have a mask made out of a sock. No reason why people can’t find, make, or wear a mask.

sideline April 13, 2020 - 4:45 PM - 4:45 PM

“Retailers should only admit people with masks or hand them out at the door as necessary for the the disagreeable”
now why in the world do you want to punish a retailer and make them pay and do the work of handing out masks???
This is costing retailers already enough, no need to add to that tab.

Bill Gram-Reefer April 14, 2020 - 1:32 PM - 1:32 PM

Hi sideline—good point. I mention retailers “handing out” masks as an option as some would claim discrimination and lack of equity because poor and addled would not have money or sense to procure masks. I do t mean to saddle retailers, heck they could say “sorry were out” you still can’t come in.” From a public health standpoint refusing customers who do not follow such a mandate is legitimate. Besides the small percentage 10-15% who will not cooperate would not be a deal breaker given the trade off—no business at all.

Bobfished April 13, 2020 - 5:49 PM - 5:49 PM

Our liberties are granted by the constitution and the Bill Of Rights. These rights can not be taken away by power hungry governors who do not write law. We are a free people, do not give up your rights that have been given to you.
When the framers were writing the constitution and Bill of Rights they did not look at each other and say, All this goes away if there is a sickness!

The Fearless Spectator April 13, 2020 - 6:07 PM - 6:07 PM

But those who know what’s best for us, must rise and save us from ourselves…….Tomorrow begins a round of individual mutiny by states that have become super-friends. Just like on the grammar school playground. Political posturing under the guise of health and science.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the president; we are the United States. During a crisis we need to at least make a half-hearted attempt at acting like it. Instead we have a Trojan Horse.

Atticus Thraxx April 13, 2020 - 8:01 PM - 8:01 PM

The responsibility of a patriot right now is to protect their community from an unprecedented threat. Your courageous struggle to save us from politicians can pick up again first Tuesday in November. Thank you for your service.

Rollo Tomasi April 14, 2020 - 8:22 AM - 8:22 AM

A patriot does it without the mandate of tyrants.

To Do List April 14, 2020 - 8:49 AM - 8:49 AM

I sometimes think it is an interesting and fun mind game to play to guess which people in a “patriot” political conversation, if transported back to America in 1770, would have actually been on the British side.

Ricardoh April 13, 2020 - 6:59 PM - 6:59 PM

I hope many of you got to see the president today at the corona press talk. He was amazing. The best part is how easy and forcefully he puts down the idiot left wing reporters who keep asking gotha question with great ease and factual answers. They are so dumb they keep asking questions in the wrong order. It may have been an all right question but they start it as a accusation. They are playing against one of his stronger skills.

Ozzie April 13, 2020 - 8:02 PM - 8:02 PM

The networks cut him off when it became a political rally and not a briefing. What’s funny is he felt he had to defend himself against the article written in The NY Times article about how badly he failed to respond to the COVID 19 virus. A leader doesn’t need to do that. An insecure person does.

Michael Wagner April 13, 2020 - 10:40 PM - 10:40 PM

@Ricardoh,

Youre easily duped because your knowledge base is poor.

Trump does NOT have the sole authority to open the Country back up. The Governor’s do. Its called States rights.

In fact, Trump never shut down businesses or schools or anything else when this started. He got beat to the punch by Governor’s like Insley, Cuomo, and Newsome. So its funny that you actually believed him at his rambling press conference today when he claimed that he alone, had the sole authority to open the country back up.

Trump is the dumbest President in my lifetime and he’s certainly no Conservative. I voted for a real conservative. His name was Ronald Reagan.

The Fat Cat April 13, 2020 - 11:32 PM - 11:32 PM

It absolutely boggles my mind how anyone can listen to a briefing like that and walk away thinking that Trump is an intelligent or effective leader. I guess it’s easy if you abandon your values to own the libz?

Gittyup April 14, 2020 - 6:57 AM - 6:57 AM

I agree, Ricardoh. We are so fortunate to have a strong and true leader in the White House. Trump is quite capable of dealing with truculent reporters who are allied with a liberal media that continues their attempts to undermine his decisive steps to protect the interests of the country.

Ricardoh April 14, 2020 - 9:41 AM - 9:41 AM

Mike Wagner For you to say that Trump is the dumbest president in your lifetime shows your are just not very bright. Let me tell you why Trump can turn the economy back on. Interstate commerce and travel. Actually I don’t really care about what he said. If he can do it fine and if he can’t that is fine also. I don’t think at this point he will make any irrational moves.

Ozzie It is not just the NY Times it is every fake news station.

Yeh, wasn’t amazing how he claimed he has total power? What would you have said if it had come from Obama or Clinton. Please explain, when it comes to abortion the Republicans and the President are all for states rights.
Now all of sudden the President says he has total control. I might be an immigrant, as some poster’s love to point out, but I’m pretty sure the constitution does not give total power to ANY President.

Atticus Thraxx April 13, 2020 - 8:48 PM - 8:48 PM

He doesn’t have the power Constitutionally or by the Federalism rules. He also doesn’t have responsibility, which if he was smart…never mind.

Perhaps we’re seeing the early signs of a dictatorship?

Gittyup April 14, 2020 - 6:45 AM - 6:45 AM

@anotheranon These are actually the later signs of an autocratic, dictatorial ruler usurping the rights of the people.

Mike Wagner April 14, 2020 - 1:27 PM - 1:27 PM

Trump is totally insane. He cant go more than 5 days before contradicting himself. But don’t worry, from his daily press briefings everything is GREAT and everything is TREMENDOUS!

Gittyup April 13, 2020 - 10:27 PM - 10:27 PM

Thanks for pointing that out. Some people are buying this hook, line and sinker.

And youre talking about the qualifications of Dr. Fauci and Deborah Brix?

Funny.

He also kept saying no one had any idea that something like this would happen, fact is Obama administration briefed him on this possibility, just as Bush 43 briefed Obama on it. When you are a very stable genius you don’t have to listen to anybody, or god forbid look to history and learn what can happen.

Michael Wagner April 13, 2020 - 10:46 PM - 10:46 PM

@RTC,

His Advisors are from the JV Team. Everyone that had a brain resigned, like Cohn, Tillerson, and General Mattis.

Besides, Trump was too busy doing 4 campaign rallies in February to be bothered by the threat of Covid-19.

Amazing how some of you get your ideas and repeat in rote as gospel what you heard on your favorite talk radio last night.

Rollo Tomasi April 14, 2020 - 7:13 AM - 7:13 AM

Hmmm, Dr. Fauci told the press yesterday that the FIRST time he suggested restricting travel from China, the advice was immediately followed. The same is true with subsequent travel restrictions from Europe and then the UK. The first time a national “shutdown” advised, that advice was followed. When it was advised that the fifteen day shutdown be extended thirty more days, that advice was followed.

Bobfished April 14, 2020 - 9:21 AM - 9:21 AM

Does Joe Bidden have dementia? Saw him talking the other day and he did not sound like he knew what was going on at all.

Mike Wagner April 14, 2020 - 9:25 AM - 9:25 AM

@Rollo,

But for some reason… Trump didn’t follow the advice of Peter Navarro.

Trump’s Trade Advisor and China hawk Peter Navarro put out a memo in late January warning that “half a million American souls” could die of coronavirus.

“”The lack of immune protection or an existing cure or vaccine would leave Americans defenseless in the case of a full-blown coronavirus outbreak on US soil,” Mr. Navarro’s memo said. “This lack of protection elevates the risk of the coronavirus evolving into a full-blown pandemic, imperiling the lives of millions of Americans.”

Navarro also wrote a second memo on Feb. 23rd warning that up to “1 (to) 2 million souls” could die of the virus.

One day later, Trump tweeted that the coronavirus was “very much under control in the USA.”

Ricardoh April 14, 2020 - 10:35 AM - 10:35 AM

What are you talking about? Trump stopped the flights from China and Europe in early February.

Ricardoh April 14, 2020 - 9:47 AM - 9:47 AM

You all are getting into an uproar for nothing. Trump is not going to do anything irrational. Calm down.

Hanne Jeppesen April 14, 2020 - 11:19 AM - 11:19 AM

GittyUp, Yes it is amazing how some get ideas and repeat as gospel what you heard on your favorite talk show host, like Hannity, Rush and Mark Levin. However, there are some conservative host’s who has a more balanced view on is Tom Sullivan 1530 AM Sacramento noon to 3 p.m. Even Michael Savage gives a more balanced view.

However, it is not necessary to listen to talk show host to find out what Trump says, we can just listen to him when he give a press conference.

Mike Wagner April 14, 2020 - 11:35 AM - 11:35 AM

Youre 100% wrong.

Youre command of the FACTS is extremely poor.

Trump did impose travel restrictions on flights from China, but there were loopholes big enough to fly a 777 through!

In fact, the travel restriction on China only impacted “foreign nationals who had been in China in the last 14 days”. That means that AMERICANS had free passage between the China and U.S., so daily flights between China and the U.S. continued. AMERICANS were exempted when it came to European travel as well, as if they weren’t capable of carrying and transmitting the virus.

Furthermore, Trump didn’t stop flights from Europe until MARCH 11th and even then he exempted the UK.

Not early February as you claim.

Ricardoh April 14, 2020 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

Every democrat and fake news channel called him a xenophobic, racist for closing things down as early as he did. Your TDS is straining your brain.

Gittyup April 14, 2020 - 12:37 PM - 12:37 PM

If Trump had not been dealing with the hateful Democrat’s Impeachment kaka, he might have been able to give the virus crisis his full attention. Democrats bear the full burden of the deaths because of their fixation on unseating Trump and their unsuccessful attempts to bring him down. Their obsessive hatred is what caused any federal delay in implementing programs to slow the virus. Own up to it, Democrats haven’t done squat since Trump was elected but act like spoiled two-year olds.

Rollo Tomasi April 14, 2020 - 1:55 PM - 1:55 PM

“Youre (sic) 100% wrong”

“Youre (sic) command of the FACTS is extremely poor”

Geez.

JWB April 14, 2020 - 10:48 AM - 10:48 AM

@ Rollo

Just curious do you have any support about the travel restriction statement you allege Fauci made? I have seen the clarifications by him on what Fauci called “mitigation”. As far as I’m aware I don’t even think that there ever was a “national shutdown” as you claim, since Trump repeatedly said that he would leave it up to the governors to make such a call for their states.

Rollo Tomasi April 14, 2020 - 1:52 PM - 1:52 PM

JWB –

The Coronavirus Task Force briefing published April 13, time stamp approximately 5:50 PM ET.

Where did I claim “national shutdown”? Give me date and time. I used “shutdown” because that is the way Dr. Fauci characterized it (with air quotes) while speaking about it. Do your own f**cking homework.

JWB April 14, 2020 - 4:18 PM - 4:18 PM

@ Rollo

Here is cut and past from your 7:13 am posting.

“The first time a national “shutdown” advised, that advice was followed.”

JWB April 14, 2020 - 6:46 PM - 6:46 PM

@ Rollo

and thanks for making me watch Fauci’s explanations. I found it on C-Span. That was really said to watch. I don’t know why he did it but it was clear that he flubbed it. He was clearly making the point that the first time they went to Trump to make a recommendation about mitigation he accepted their recommendation and made it very clear that this was the 15 days shutdown. I guess he forgot the travel restrictions and botched that one because obviously that would have been an earlier recommendation to mitigate.

Or in Judge Judy’s words:
“If you tell the truth, then you don’t have to have a good memory”.

Mike Wagner April 14, 2020 - 11:52 AM - 11:52 AM

@Ricardo, but don’t let me prevent you from “spinning” how great Trump is with all of your “revisionist” history.

Maybe you can give us an update on Trump’s “miracle” drug for Covid-19 called hydroxychloroquine?

You’re the guy that said it was safe and FDA approved, right?

Then how come it just KILLED 11 people in a Brazilian study?

Beside Gavin Newsom saying Trump was giving California everything it wanted name one democrat that has said one good thing about Trump in the last four years. Name one fake news channel that has said one good thing about Trump in the last four years. It is just the opposite one lie after another one unproven charge after another.

Original G April 14, 2020 - 2:32 PM - 2:32 PM

In part of Brazilian study problematic dosage was 600 milligrams twice daily for 10 days, by sixth day eleven had died. From searches appears USA treatment dose is much, much lower.

But facts don’t seem to stop liberal media from scare headlines that fit their goals. A very wise young lady gave an accurate description a year or so back suggesting, “Clickbait”.

To Do List April 14, 2020 - 4:02 PM - 4:02 PM

Democrats are full of hope. At the beginning, they hoped the Russians were responsible for Trump’s victory. Later, they hoped the economy would slide into recession to damage Trump’s popularity. Then they hoped a trade war would wreck Trump’s popularity in middle America rural areas. Now they hope drugs are not found to counteract coronavirus because they have some hope the more sickness there is, perhaps, just perhaps, they can hope they can blame some deaths on Trump and win the election. Full of hope.
