City Of Benicia Closes Parking Lots Due To Improper Gatherings During Shelter Order

City parking lots in Benicia are closed to the public due to activity violating the novel coronavirus social distancing order, officials said.

The city announced the closure of parking lots at Matthew Turner Shipyard (12th Street) Park and Alvarez Ninth Street Park, as well as parking at the foot of First Street for the beach and pier.

“The Police Department has received and verified complaints of people parking in these locations and not staying to themselves, but rather walking between cars, window to window interactions, etc.,” the city said in an announcement. “As a result, these parking lots will be blocked to vehicle traffic with the exception of a few boat parking spaces at the Ninth Street parking lot.”

Officials said that the areas will remain open for walking, but that social distancing would be enforced.

“The city will continue to evaluate public areas and parking lots and may make further closures without notice, if improper social distancing is observed,” officials said.

Too bad people are so ignorant. What does it take to realize most of the world is in Shelter in Place for a reason! Hard to believe. I do know people who have a very casual attitude about following the rules. I feel sorry for all the dummies.

Look in the mirror if you’re referring to dummies who beLIEve lies.

@Anon – watch someone coughing up blood and a 104 degree temp if you think it’s a lie.

Social Snitches.

All this wouldn’t have been necessary if most social mores and taboo had not gone South during Obama’s Reign of Terror. He legitimized the convenience store robbery which then spawned the smash and grab, and who knows what evolution of criminality would have followed. To bring back a semblance of social order somebody had to tighten the screws before the buggy shook itself apart. This is a blessing in disguise.

Does anybody understand the relevance of this comment to people having to shelter in place?
The idiots with the ridiculous comments….. You will be the ones who are screaming when they DON’T have a respirator for your family member.

So is most every town, if one is being honest.

That is an insult to the town of Benicia, the more correct phrase would be, Benicia as other towns and cities has some jerks. I lived in Benicia for 10 years and loved it. Loved to walk in Benicia State Park, loved going to Farmer’s Market and shop downtown and I had really nice neighbors.

I love Benicia. It’s a great pet friendly town. Beautiful scenery. People who don’t live here don’t know. The negative comments just want to get a rise!
