Two things:
1) I really don’t want to go out and about, handling paper handled by who knows how many others with hygiene care less strict than mine.
2) $17 to $20 what: per hour, day, or month? If that’s an annual salary, I can do better, if I wanted to leave my home.
This virus is serious about taking down all human life on the planet. I think I want to avoid it, well, like the plague!
Please use common sense. $20/day is less than minimum wage.
Obviously by the hour…. seriously?
Obviuosly, not seriously, but the fact that you felt it necessary to ask says volumes about the intelligence level of our nation. I am serious about the seriousness of this virus, though, having studied microbiology, virology, and pathology in graduate school. It’s a threat to many, and if it mutates to a more virulent form during passage thru many human hosts, we could be totally screwed without a vaccine.
You would be safe as postal workers all wear gloves now. It is a good government job with benefits and pension, guaranteed for life..
You really think people would risk catching the disease just to get paid $17-$20 per day or month? it’s obviously per hour. Some people just don’t think smh
“…and if it mutates to a more virulent form during passage thru many human hosts, we could be totally screwed without a vaccine.”
And if my auntie had balls, she’d be my uncle. If a frog had wings, it wouldn’t bump it’s ass a’hoppin.
Rollo must be bucking for president – he too is totally clueless about epidemiology, yet seems to believe he ‘s a wit.
I haven’t seen this many people so riled up since Merriam-Webster took “gullible” out of the dictionary.
John P, what about the possibility that it mutates to a less virulent form? Since you’re dealing in “what ifs”, why did you exclude that one? Better for scaring the masses?
That’s pretty crappy pay for California. It may be okay in Kansas or Oklahoma, but $17/hour is slightly over minimum wage here.
If you’ve lost your job and need to survive, I can think of worse options!
Just ordered a book to pass the time. The Post Office tore it to pieces. Years ago, I stopped buying on eBay because I was not getting my packages. I could not get a refund because the Post Office tracking said they were delivered. The tracking is a fake, what ever the bar code on the package says is the claimed delivery site, even if the package is in another state.
I used to be an eBay seller. If the package does not get to you, you get a full refund, period. Doesn’t matter what the tracking says.
Well good for you CY. I did not get refunds and the reason eBay gave was that the Post Office tracking showed the package was delivered. If you would like to send me the money I got screwed out of, send me your address, other wise stop thinking you know it all.
Minimum wage in Concord is $12 or 13.00 an hour. I transferred from the Palo Alto Macy’s to the one in SunValley Mall in November. The minimum salary for the City of Palo Alto is $15.00 an hour, so fortunately the company kept me at that hourly wage. Although $15.00 is minimum in Palo Alto, many companies, before the virus, advertised the started new people at $16.00 to 17.00 an hour. MacDonald’s was one, they were always short of staff.
Man, we got some real jerks on this feed, huh? If you don’t want the job, just move on to the next post! And if you’re mad because your packages didn’t get delivered, go yell at someone else, Grandpa! You won’t fix it by complaining at a community job listing. 🙄
Part of the job application process involves an efficiency test. If you pass, you are not qualified to work at the Post Office.
JOE: $12
In California, the 2020 minimum wage rate of $12 an hour for businesses with 25 employees or fewer and $13 an hour for larger companies takes effect on Jan. 1. That compares with a minimum wage of $11 in 2019. The minimum wage will increase to $15 per hour in 2022.Dec 19, 2019
This hiring puzzles me. Most of our mail was junk mail which has dropped to nearly zero since the shutdown. Mail trucks are now flying through their routes and only stopping to see if there is outbound mail. The USPS no longer seems relevant as a package delivery service with Amazon, FedEx, and UPS all competing and with operations and equipment designed and fine-tuned for packages. UPS will hand off packages to USPS for last mile delivery where I suspect delivery services have always taken a loss and the USPS will also take a loss.
It’s possible the USPS’ need for 1000 new bodies is to replace those killed by COVID-19.
IMO, it’s more likely USPS needs people to replace the low-paid workers who walked-off the job following the SIP order, just like the tens of thousands who walked away from Amazon fulfillment centers.
Not to be a wise ass but hope the new hires can read English and deliver the mail to the correct address-has not always been the case in the past.
