you’ve been scooped…

Kathy Boyd April 4, 2020 - 1:35 AM - 1:35 AM

Worst news possible. My fav. candy for 68 years. Me my brother and sister got a Easter Egg filled every year from my Mom growing up. Had our names on them. Was just getting ready to order a lot of Easter candy and read the devastating news. Sees has stopped production. Never would have imagined in a million years. Hard to believe. Very sad. Love Sees candy.

S March 28, 2020 - 3:33 PM - 3:33 PM

AND…. You know the end is really near…

The Saturday Night Grand Ole Opry Show has not missed for 4916 consecutive Saturdays (that’s a lot of Saturdays).

They announced last night: The Show WILL NOT Go On!

First Lawrence Welk, now this…

Steven Powers March 28, 2020 - 9:06 PM - 9:06 PM

Wow that’s terrible. Got to visit there last year amazing show and live radio broadcast… we will go back

Aunt Barbara March 28, 2020 - 4:00 PM - 4:00 PM

probably a good thing since no Dental cleaning/checkups are available and no
gyms to work it off ;(

Dorothy March 28, 2020 - 4:06 PM - 4:06 PM

Oh no, not See’s too! I hope they will return.

Concordite March 28, 2020 - 4:36 PM - 4:36 PM

I can’t imagine Easter without See’s Candies, or any holiday for that matter! They’ve been a part of my family traditions & celebrations forever. So sad but will look forward to them reopening, hopefully soon.

Hanne Jeppesen March 28, 2020 - 5:13 PM - 5:13 PM

Not a fan of their chocolate’s, doesn’t mean l turn them down, but prefer Godiva or some swiss chocolate’s. However l do love their Café Latte hard candy. I usually buy 4 boxes at once, so l don’t have to go that often. I think l have 2 left they be available when l run out.

Donut maple bar March 28, 2020 - 6:56 PM - 6:56 PM

godiva is good and cheaper. sees is expensive and overrated.

Carnac the Magnificent March 28, 2020 - 7:25 PM - 7:25 PM

WTF?

Gittyup March 29, 2020 - 7:12 AM - 7:12 AM

Godiva sucks.

Cyn March 29, 2020 - 4:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Hanne, just wondering if you prefer Godiva because Macy’s sells it?

Donut, Godiva IS NOT cheaper at Macy’s and See’s isn’t overrated.

Gittyup, Godiva caramel is pretty good.

Roz March 28, 2020 - 5:17 PM - 5:17 PM

Oh Darn! Hope they a reopening by Summer so I can get the Summer Time, which is one of my favorites, and of course Nuts & Chews.

Hanne Jeppesen March 28, 2020 - 7:59 PM - 7:59 PM

Donut maple bar, To each their own. I find the difference is that Godiva, and several European chocolate maker have less sugar. A See’s raspberry truffle, does not have as strong a raspberry taste as a Godiva raspberry truffle. When I was growing up in Denmark small stores that sold chocolates and other candies often made their own chocolate’s right on the premises. When my ex husband went to Denmark with me the first time he noticed both apple juice and ketchup tastes more of apple and tomato than he was use to. So I guess it depends what you are use to. There is no right or wrong. Just different tastes, that is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and a few other flavors.

Roz March 29, 2020 - 6:55 AM - 6:55 AM

@ Hanne Jeppesen ~
Yes, European Chocolate do taste different, and are a welcome treat.
Also for a nice treat, there is Pete’s Treats in Cordova, Alaska. This guy’s story is amazing and his truffles are made with/from local berries too. Think he has a facebook page so you can see what he is making.

Hanne Jeppesen March 30, 2020 - 10:45 AM - 10:45 AM

Cyn, No I don’t prefer Godiva because Macy’s sells It, I was a fan before I started to work there. If you buy Godiva at Macy’s and have a Macy’s card you get the cardholder 25% discount. I think in all the years I have worked there I have bought perhaps 2 Godiva chocolate bars. Did buy a box of truffles as a hostess gift at Christmas time. I don’t eat much chocolate, mostly around Christmas and then I buy most at Cost Plus, because they have the German made marzipan, which is my favorite. Cost Plus use to carry a Danish made marzipan, which was made with cognac, that was my favorite. When my daughter was growing up we would make our own chocolate candies and truffles. I don’t if See’ are overrated, they are cheaper than Godiva, but it all depends on what each of us like, no right and wrong, just different taste.

ZZ March 28, 2020 - 6:33 PM - 6:33 PM

But, but, it’s food! Happy food!!

Hanne Jeppesen March 29, 2020 - 11:39 AM - 11:39 AM

Roz Thanks for the tip. I will check it out. I use to bake a lot and wanted to start a brownie business, I made killer brownies, Espresso brownies with Kahlua added, orange milk chocolate with hazelnuts and added orange liquor, anyway I didn’t have enough money to get it started. Anyway I’m always interested in finding out what others are doing in that area.

I’m sure there are many here and iin other states that makes some great tasting chocolate’s and truffles. There is a woman in San Rafael that has some outstanding chocolates, she was catering an event I went to. Not sure if she has a store front, I think the name was “Eva’s delights”

Donut maple bar March 28, 2020 - 6:57 PM - 6:57 PM

dont worry people. you can still buy Donuts from Dunkin or Kings on Clayton Rd.

slagheap March 28, 2020 - 11:09 PM - 11:09 PM

3000 calories = 1 lb fat.

Justifiable languor March 29, 2020 - 7:19 AM - 7:19 AM

My calculator says 1lb of Sees, 5lbs fat.

WC Resident March 29, 2020 - 10:27 AM - 10:27 AM

I have always used 1lb equals 1lb. If I eat something than weighs one pound then I will weigh one pound more than I did immediately before I ate.

You have to breath a lot to get rid of that extra pound. Carbon dioxide weighs more than oxygen. That’s why it sinks towards the low spots in a confined space. You breath in air, the lungs extract the oxygen from the air and releases carbon dioxide. You breath out, and presto, you have lost a little weight as you traded something heavier, the carbon dioxide, for something lighter, the oxygen. Remember to breath folks! You lose weight while taking a nap or sleeping.

Justifiable languor March 29, 2020 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

WC Resident: Surely you jest. 😅

ming March 29, 2020 - 9:19 AM - 9:19 AM

So sad….
Didn’t see this coming.
I hope “further notice happens soon”.
Love Sees candy anytime!

JJ March 29, 2020 - 10:28 AM - 10:28 AM

I love to buy boxes of See’s Candies for people. Everyone I know loves it.

And their stores are the best. Clean, friendly and always offering a sample. Yum. 🙂

Captain Bebops March 29, 2020 - 11:43 AM - 11:43 AM

One of the least empty shelves at the local grocers is the candy section. 😉

Gittyup March 29, 2020 - 12:03 PM - 12:03 PM

Now, there would have been some useful hoarding.

The Wizard March 29, 2020 - 4:18 PM - 4:18 PM

Oh No, where will the Candy Man get his candy.

nytemuvr March 29, 2020 - 8:01 PM - 8:01 PM

I got some raspberry infused chocolate at the pot store the other day, it was like a summer day at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in a wrapper. It killed “two birds with one stoned” so to say.

The Wizard March 30, 2020 - 8:05 AM - 8:05 AM

Where you happy about that ?

FlyingSpaghettiMonsterCatcher March 30, 2020 - 5:48 AM - 5:48 AM

Being locked down is no fun, but locked down with no chocolate????………i’m not gonna make it

S March 30, 2020 - 7:35 AM - 7:35 AM

Stay Strong; we can make it!

Justifiable languor March 30, 2020 - 8:53 AM - 8:53 AM

Throw a handful of chocolate chips in a cup, heaping Tablespoon coco powder, coffee. Microwave and stir. Spoon it over ice cream or your into your mouth. It’s for a good cause.

Dogg Bert March 30, 2020 - 12:33 PM - 12:33 PM

Why? Is there a corn syrup shortage?

S March 30, 2020 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

You’re a Lying Dog Faced Pony Solder! (kinda’)

https://www.sees.com/help/faqs/

Does See’s add high fructose corn syrup to its products?
See’s Candies does not add high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in our candy-making process. However, candies made with cherry ingredients including glacé whole, glacé halves, and whole dipping cherries contain a small amount of HFCS. This is because we source these ingredients from a supplier who prepares the cherries with a small amount of HFCS before they reach our candy kitchens.

anon March 30, 2020 - 1:12 PM - 1:12 PM

this is a huge hit to the Bay Area! a lot of people don’t realize see’s candy is made in South San Francisco!!!

Dogg Bert March 31, 2020 - 12:06 AM - 12:06 AM

OK, that’s high-fructose corn syrup. But what about regular corn syrup, which Sees consumes by the barrel? The FAQ is quiet about that, isn’t it? Read an ingredients list, or read in general, before you insult people.

S March 31, 2020 - 6:45 AM - 6:45 AM

I said “kinda'”
🙂

but ya’ gotta admit : Lying Dog Faced Pony Solder; was a classic line….

Justifiable languor March 31, 2020 - 7:24 AM - 7:24 AM

I have yet to work that in to a conversation. So, it’s not a term of endearment?

Kathy Boyd April 4, 2020 - 1:38 AM - 1:38 AM

So sad my favorite candy for 68 years.
