The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Today’s question:

Since most everyone is spending time at home (possibly watching tv), now’s a good time to talk about your favorite streaming service.

QUESTION: Which one do you prefer? Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney+ or another one that we didn’t mention?

Talk about it.

Nothing special, just regular ol’ TV. I’ve never been much of a couch potato, TV isn’t that important to me and I don’t watch it during the day.

I dropped Netflix because of their 4K tax. They actually charge extra for 4K by making you get their top tier subscription which is for 4 users and doesn’t make any sense at all. This is how “suits” think if you can call it “thinking”.

I have Hulu and Amazon, neither charge extra for 4K. I also have Shudder and EPIXNow both aren’t expensive. I have no “preference” as they provide different kinds of programming. Hulu and Amazon got some of the content that Netflix used to have. I like foreign productions over the contrived stuff Hollywood thinks will work. Hulu and Amazon now have those.

I use both Hulu and Amazon. I may give Nextflix a try. Since I am an “essential worker” my watching is later in the evening.

PORN HUB. Love is all you need.

Hulu and Amazon here, too. We used to have xfinity internet and TV, but the price got out of control. Now we have Wave and streaming TV.

Justifiable Languor March 25, 2020 - 2:18 PM - 2:18 PM

I am considering Wave but they want me to sign a year contract. Better than Comcasts 2 yr demand. Do you have good wifi reception?

Does Verizon offer a wifi/computer option?

Chicken Little March 25, 2020 - 2:49 PM - 2:49 PM

I’m using my own wi-fi router and my house is pretty small, so I don’t have any problem with wi-fi reception. And I don’t remember what the speed is, but it’s plenty for streaming TV and movies with no issues.

Thanks CL.

No Disney for me. Is there any franchise that they have bought and done well with?. Let me list a few of their destructions: Star Wars, Toy Story, anyway they are the Death Star

WhoDat Gurl March 25, 2020 - 2:06 PM - 2:06 PM

Disney+ is very good! All the Disney movies, with no scratched DVDs. Really enjoy the Nature programs and Star Wars franchise.

Captain Bebops March 25, 2020 - 2:56 PM - 2:56 PM

Disney now owns 2/3 of Hulu and are putting their mature content there. Disney owns ABC and now FOX. NBC is exiting to try their hand at the streaming game by themselves. I think HBO (AT&T) still has a 10% share. Benefit on Hulu now is FX and FXX content is also available next day.

No streaming but I do have Netflix DVD mostly for the variety that none of the streamers offer.

Gititogether March 25, 2020 - 5:58 PM - 5:58 PM

Netflixer…& free channels; Roku, tubi, Pluto, YouTube. My tolerance for commercials was never good, now they are INtolerable…that’s especially true for radio

CMama March 25, 2020 - 10:13 PM - 10:13 PM

If you have a library card, you can watch movies for free through the Kanopy streaming service. You also get access to Great Courses through Kanopy. There’s a link to sign up on the library’s website.

Sone like Disney+ are good for the more proprietary content they offer…but for the services that offer a more broad selection, we’ve tried them ALL and there are ZERO that can sniff Xfinity!Stream service in terms of overall selection and value. And what I really love is that the app is near flawless on my phone, I can be just about anywhere and the app fires right up to give me access to “live” TV or DVR. We were hesitant to switch because we had heard the Comcast horror stories, but all I can say is they’ve simply been awesome besides a HUGE savings.

I give a HUGE thumbs up to YouTube TV! I wish someone would have shared it with me earlier, so I will share with all of you. The service is AMAZING! It has about 80 channels, including ALL local networks (KTVU-2, KGO-5, ABC7, NBC Bay Area) and it has almost all the channels I watched on my old Direct TV plan…it costs $49.99/month, compared to almost $200/month that I was paying. Unlimited DVR included, and the part I like best, you can arrange the channels in any order you want- super easy, just go into your account on the computer and move any channel up or down, or exclude altogether! I also add on Showtime for an extra $7/month. I was skeptical at first, but as long as you have good wireless, the picture is amazing and very reliable. They have a free weekly trial, and I highly recommend!

Sports channels included? Nfl mlb nhl nba?

Ilovepopcorn March 26, 2020 - 6:26 AM - 6:26 AM

I have Amazon Prime, Tubi, and tons more. I get a great deal due to the contract with Xfinity that my HOA uses. It costs $20.00 per month. I like Tubi, and all the free movies and UTuBE for learning stuff.

Scooter March 27, 2020 - 12:29 AM - 12:29 AM

@Pat
Lots of sports channels included: MLB, NBA, ESPN, SPN2, ESPNU, ESPNN, Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, NBC Sports Bay Area (A’s home station) NBC Sports California (Giants/Sharks),several college conference networks (Big Ten, ACC, SEC) No NFL or NHL, but because you are streaming, you can add any app you want, so you could add the standalone NFL app just like you would on your phone. If you have a newer TV, and you can stream from the TV, just add the YouTube TV app, if not, its about $30 for a Roku streaming stick to get started.
