The Wizard March 26, 2020 - 7:30 AM - 7:30 AM

Maybe he had a 6′ 6” knife.

ConcordMike March 25, 2020 - 6:59 PM - 6:59 PM

It’s 6:58 pm and the helicopter is still circling. There must be more to this story. Perhaps a homicide now?

anon March 25, 2020 - 7:16 PM - 7:16 PM

The suspect was taken into custody.

theonewhosaidit March 25, 2020 - 7:53 PM - 7:53 PM

probably will be let out of jail freely as to avoid getting the coronavirus like they are doing in a lot of jails.

Agree with it or not, race is a very important description. Weight too. Anyone know?

james March 25, 2020 - 10:27 PM - 10:27 PM

If it was a caucasian they would be telling you all about it.

theonewhosaidit March 25, 2020 - 7:51 PM - 7:51 PM

I stopped walking at the parks just for now around here there is too many homeless crazies walking about begging for money, unstable talking and shouting to themselves and invading peoples space and if you try to avoid walking by them because of it and the virus they get offended and act out and get in your face.

They are breaking glass drinking booze and just tossing them on the ground at our parks so i dont want my dog to cut its foot and have to pay a huge vet bill and they are throwing food containers, trash and needles everywhere.

Christine Nardico March 25, 2020 - 10:36 PM - 10:36 PM

What is concord doing about this homeless situation, I know what you mean; I live near Bart. the things I hear late night either scares me or make me sad or pissed off that Concord is not doing nothing. If the concord police department can make a 30k dollar music video for funds that are not even there’s then how come we.don’t do something to put these people in safer, warmer shelters, or build a comunity for them, like other cities are doing. I know there’s a lot of bad apples out there.but there are all-So allot of good ones too. Lets get together as a community and get better people(‘s) working on better game plan its to cold or to hot for anyone. Can you imagine not being able to use a rest room when you really needed it! Help them GOD. Help us save these people
Yeah watch the concord,California police concord video get this all in Spanish.
Unbeilievable.

james March 25, 2020 - 10:56 PM - 10:56 PM

What world are you living in Christine? They don’t want help, they are mentally ill,and if you give them a place to live the will destroy it and move on to the next bleeding hearts free suggestion.Help these people? There is no way to help them,Why not take a few in to your place? Not realy “your place”? They why suggest things about peoples living conditions when you cant do anything but armchair warrior. Why don’t you suggest world peace too?Really?Pat yourself on the back now,you pretended to try to ask if someone could think up something that nobody else has come up with for the last 100 years. They need to enforce the laws and get them out of Concord.Concord wants them here, and will never do anything to improve the lives of the “homeless”(they make more money per day than you do) or the homed. If they improve the city property taxes will go up and all the dregs of society will leave. They need the city packed with bodies of questionable legality at all times to perpetuate the failure Concord exhitbits, year after year.

Dave March 26, 2020 - 7:39 AM - 7:39 AM

James – Christine is right. We need to come together as a community and address these issues. Obviously, not everyone is willing to, as you’ve demonstrated in your belligerent rant against our community’s most vulnerable residents. That’s fine, we will move forward without your unhelpful input.

The situation is undoubtedly frustrating, but blaming people (the homeless, government, etc) for whatever ends of this complicated issue you most resent does nothing but add more toxicity to the subject.

Your sweeping generalizations about our city’s homeless residents is unhelpful and unwelcome. Concord is better than that. We will move forward on this issue as a community, again, without your unhelpful negative energy.

PO'd March 26, 2020 - 8:02 AM - 8:02 AM

I have to agree with james- there is no solution to the homeless beggar problem as the people whom you are trying to help do not want to be told how they need to be “normal”. They are all running from something, or they wouldn’t be feral now. At least half of them should be institutionalized
Half of them talk to themselves with the other half listening. They don’t accept any structure as it cuts into their freedom.
A lot of funds have been poured into the homeless issue in the Bay Area in the last 25 years with NO tangible results.

Justifiable languor March 26, 2020 - 9:37 AM - 9:37 AM

I have a family member that is feral. S/he lied as a child. At puberty was introduced to drugs and sex, subsequently ran from home and had a child (of course). Continued substance abuse, abandoned child for days, had another child (severely handycapped, of course). Provoked fights, had them thrown in jail. Was incarcerated for two years, taken off ‘pain’ meds cold turkey. Thrived under prison conditions.

Within a few miles after release threw a total fit so friend had to let out of car. Then continued as if s/he hadn’t been sober for two years. And so it goes. The mother was destroyed by her efforts to find a solution. Ripped off, betrayed, alienated by family members who could no longer tolerate her continued forgiveness after 50+ years.

Some people can’t be cleaned up. Society should be protected by these fiends. This person is still running free, wreaking havoc and funded by the state. If blame were to be handed out, I would accuse the psychologists for their irresponsible enabling. Bleeding heart liberals are incapable of … Let’s just put a period on that.

Darwin March 26, 2020 - 11:13 AM - 11:13 AM

@justfiable languor
Unfortunately you are correct.
You just described 99% of the feral population ( homeless). The 1% being the legitimate mentally ill who fall through the cracks due to the 99%. I blame the people who voted for the liberal politicians who decriminalized drug use and theft (Prop 47). The attorneys looking to sue for anything. There is no longer personal accountability.
The police departments can’t police anymore, the dumbing down of society is in full effect with California leading the way. Thank you Liberal California voter.
You can’t help those who don’t want help. The homeless shelters provide meals, mailboxes, showers, assigned counselors. There are no excuses. Homeless court to get your drivers license back etc…
The homeless have created the feral lifestyle, just party and get free stuff and steal when you want cash until your SSI Disability kicks in. SSI can only deny you so many times before you get it. Plenty of SSI attorneys.
Darwin has spoken

Rod Barton March 26, 2020 - 12:05 PM - 12:05 PM

So we have this horrible pandemic, and Christine wants to offer the criminals a place to live? I have to ask – which world are YOU living in???
Concord chooses to do nothing about the situation. That is the problem. I also remember living close to the BART in concord and heard plenty of those crazies at night.
They would yell, curse, and do drugs in Ellis Lake park all night. Not to mention, many of those transients would congregate in the summer time with their pit bull mutts off leash to scare people.
As far as the homeless issue, the people who want to get help will get the help they need, seek out homeless shelters and try to get back on their feet. But there are too many others who want to continue doing drugs, shooting up needles and endangering anyone who comes in contact with them.
Not exactly people i want to let into my home or anywhere near my family.
But if you feel the need to take them in, please go right ahead.

Rod Barton March 26, 2020 - 12:17 PM - 12:17 PM

Hey Dave,
The only thing that is unhelpful is the ridiculous utopian mentality that the left has towards dealing with this problem. Labeling many of these local transients as “the most vulnerable” is ignorance at the highest level. Kind of like that “cool” parent who doesn’t want to discipline their belligerent and troubled teenager for being a bully at school.
Criminals need to be disciplined and reported to the authorities for harassing law abiding citizens. Say hi to them the next time you see them roaming around Ellis Park and see how well that goes.

Gittyup March 26, 2020 - 2:00 PM - 2:00 PM

It is a public health issue and, like it or not, the diseases breeding under those conditions will be coming to a doorstep near you sooner or later. Look at history — nothing is new under the sun. This issue was dealt with, or it wasn’t, and the results are written in history books — over the course of centuries. Certainly, there are mentally ill, there are drug abusers, but there are those who can be found there through no fault of their own. Society’s humanity will be judged by how it deals with the weakest among us and so far we’re not looking so great.

james March 26, 2020 - 3:27 PM - 3:27 PM

Dave.looks like you’ve been out voted with your liberal delusions as usual. If it was at all possible it would have been done a long time ago.Homelessness is a side effect of metal illness and drug addiction.Where’s your solution to that? There isn’t,becasue it would be worth millions of dollars to the right idea man,and that not an armchair warrior with the’that’s not right” attitude, just to ,make yourself feel better for not admitting the obvious.these people are unhelpable.

Justifiable languor March 27, 2020 - 7:54 AM - 7:54 AM

PConcordian: I Hope you aren’t a pseudo psychologist. Maybe just a tenured social worker. Sucking up to police captains in order to gain a tenured seat at the council table. SF is in ruins because of idiots like yourself. Slowly working your way into politics so you can fleece what is left of America’s innovative common citizens.

As for the unfortunate family, the child was given way more (attentive mother, preference, special lessons) than her brothers. But I admit she would have been better off working alongside her siblings. Smart, beautiful, a natural athlete, a doting mother …

It is criminal what social engineers have done to our society. You don’t know jack.

Justifiable languor March 27, 2020 - 9:14 AM - 9:14 AM

Gittyup, I sympathize with your point of view. In fact, in reading responses to the dilemma, I realized the first step is to categorize and separate persons in need. SS number, birth city, health and financial history. It would be a start. Sometimes solutions are found simply by taking a step.

Those who refuse to comply can be weeded out as special needs.

concord ygnacio March 25, 2020 - 8:15 PM - 8:15 PM

Wait, I thought California had a shelter-in-placer order? Criminals knowingly violate this?

e.bunners March 26, 2020 - 12:44 AM - 12:44 AM

…as do the Millennials…. who will, unfortunately, go home at some point and give it to their ‘baby boomer parents… the elderly.

scott fine March 26, 2020 - 7:23 AM - 7:23 AM

They’re homeless. They are at home.

Orginal G March 25, 2020 - 8:47 PM - 8:47 PM

Given what CA has become, would not doubt when assailant is captured the phrase known to local Police may well apply.
Criminals these days have to work hard to end up being charged with a Felony an even harder to do significant time.

Our first responders have to deal repeatedly with some having reality issues until their violence escalates to a point they become incarcerated.

Christine Nardico March 25, 2020 - 10:45 PM - 10:45 PM

I’M SORRY BUT ONE MORE thing that really bothers Mr and makes me sad put the wild lufe in these ponds all over. Concord.
CAN YOU CLEAN THE PONDS ALL OVER CONCORD
THE WILD LIFE IS DYING OUT THERE. CAN YOU GET SOME WORKERS RO MAINTAIN THESE PINDS. THE FISH OUR DYUNG OF POLUTION! THis burns me up

james March 25, 2020 - 11:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Do you forget what city you are talking about? The ponds are a trash can and a toilet for the campers, and those with so many people in their apt their plumbing and trash can cant handle the volume. There is a new police chief from a different filaing liberal city here now.Things aren’t looking very hopeful.

Silva March 26, 2020 - 5:23 AM - 5:23 AM

Christine I really agree, it is so sad to look at what those poor waterbirds and turtles are living in, and all the other animals too.

MattfromConcord March 26, 2020 - 2:23 PM - 2:23 PM

They’ll clean the ponds right after they help/take care of the homeless population in Concord.

concord ygnacio March 25, 2020 - 11:43 PM - 11:43 PM

The suspect was a juvenle.

ConcordRez March 26, 2020 - 12:09 AM - 12:09 AM

From Concord PD FBpage: Today at approximately 5:30 PM, Concord police officers responded to Willow Pass Community Park located on East Olivera Road for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Officers quickly arrived on scene and found two people suffering from stab wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, later determined to be a juvenile, initially fled the scene. After two hours of extensive yard searches K9 Hancock 🐕 located the suspect hiding in a shed. The suspect peacefully surrendered and was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon.

We also want to give a big thank you the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office for assisting from up above 🚁 !

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to please call to Concord Police Department Investigation Unit at

Smee March 26, 2020 - 5:52 AM - 5:52 AM

Thank you Hancock and CPD!!!

Jeff March 26, 2020 - 6:40 AM - 6:40 AM

This will keep happening until you replace the politicians who believe drug use is a social issue and not a criminal one.

108RS

sam Malone March 26, 2020 - 8:55 AM - 8:55 AM

And now we have a new police chief that will continue to perpetuate the lawlessness in the city of Concord. I had hoped sadly, that the Covid-19 virus might have woken folks up and got them back on track.

Doubtful at best.

Agreed, the homeless want to be homeless and do not want to be set up in any type of community that has rules. They want to do their drugs, drinking, thieving and destroying property and setting fires. Anywhere there are laws or boundaries they run from like cockroaches when a light is shined on them.

Reality is reality.

Rod Barton March 26, 2020 - 11:57 AM - 11:57 AM

Criminals not adhering to the shelter in place standards.

Can i run over one of them over with my car? I promise to adhere to the six feet apart rule while doing so.

Smee March 27, 2020 - 12:13 AM - 12:13 AM

The hatred and aggression in some of these posts is disgusting. Not an ounce of humanity. Spewing hatred doesn’t help the situation a bit and doesn’t make anyone feel better

Darwin March 27, 2020 - 8:30 AM - 8:30 AM

@smee
I’m sorry, did your feelings get hurt? 😩
Do you need a safe place??
Did someone offended you???
GROW UP!,

FYI, it’s not hatred, it’s called frustration.
Don’t be an enabler.

Kentucky Derby March 27, 2020 - 9:30 AM - 9:30 AM

We’re all frustrated with the homeless, but you can still be decent about it.
