McDonald’s, located inside the Sunvalley Mall in Concord, was closed on Jan.9 after inspectors from the Contra Costa County Health Department say they found the following.

  • 1 live adult cockroach on floor where the floor meets the wall under the 3 compartment sink.
  • 1 live nymph cockroach on wall behind 3 compartment sink.
  • 2 live adult cockroaches on pipes against wall behind 3 compartment sink.
  • 1 dead adult cockroach on sticky monitor on pipe behind orange juice machine.
  • 3 dead nymph cockroaches on sticky monitor on pipe behind orange juice machine.

The restaurant was inspected after a complaint came in from a customer saying they saw a live cockroach on the counter.

The restaurant has since been reinspected and reopened.

The roaches have all ben fed and accounted for. BTW- who frequents a McDonalds in a Mall, anyway? Is there a marijuana dispensary nearby?

Maller January 15, 2020 - 11:09 AM - 11:09 AM

Who frequents McDonald’s in a mall ?? Shoppers who go to the mall! There doesn’t need to be a marijuana dispensary near by. If you were in the know, you wouldn’t make such an ignorant statement.
And be happy the Sun Valley Mall still exists. It’s not the dump you say it is Oldtimer. Give Sun Valley Mall credit for surviving ecommerce.
Practice seeing the good in Concords commerce.

The need to inspect Round 1, that place is a crap hole.

Pat January 15, 2020 - 12:40 PM - 12:40 PM

I agree with Maller, but what disgusts me is.. why don’t employees anonymously call to report these situations that they’ve likely known existed???

Dawg January 15, 2020 - 2:31 PM - 2:31 PM

Maybe they don’t report it because they want to keep working. If the employees report it and the inspector shuts them down, the employees will be out of work until they reopen.

Big Rob January 16, 2020 - 7:24 AM - 7:24 AM

To Dawg; not quite true about the workers. Who do you think has to scrub the place down from top to bottom upon any closure? That’s the real reason they don’t report infestations.

Sun Valley Mall is disgusting…who eats there?

Ewww! McDonald’s in the mall has ALWAYS been gross! I took my child there a few times 20 YRS AGO and it was gross then, and it’s gross now. I rarely frequent ANY McDonald’s, but I definitely wouldn’t go to the one in the mall!!

1 – I never go to any Mycky Ds. 2 – Sun Valley has had too many of these so I won’t eat anywhere inside or out there. 3 – If you buy anything in any of those stores there be sure to shake out whatever bags or boxes or you might bring home unwanted critters.

The real issue January 17, 2020 - 5:29 PM - 5:29 PM

All food places have pests that’s why they have pest control. Ever look at your favorite taco joint, pizza place or Chinese restaurant. The real issue is that the health inspectors need to be more consistent in their inspections and expectations. You can see a restaurant have a green pass and watch the mice run on the floor or mold growing in the salsa bar. The whole system needs an overhaul.
