A motorcyclist who died in a crash on Marsh Creek Road east of Clayton on Sunday afternoon has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 59-year-old Concord resident Timothy Baker.

Firefighters from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded at 3:43 p.m. to a report of a motorcyclist down on Marsh Creek Road just east of Morgan Territory Road, Fire Marshal Steve Aubert said.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Baker, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aubert.

Marsh Creek Road was closed for about two hours as a result of the investigation into the crash. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the California Highway Patrol’s Contra Costa-area office at (925) 646-4980.

Sad. My condolences to his family.

TraumaRx January 6, 2020 - 2:50 PM - 2:50 PM

93.9% of motorcycle fatalities are due to unsafe speeds. Along with other factors including not wearing proper gear and splitting lanes.

WhoDat Gurl January 6, 2020 - 4:56 PM - 4:56 PM

Trauma Rx,

While this may be true, wouldn’t sharing that fact be more compassionate if it waited another day or two? As a fellow medical professional, whose brother rides Harleys, I have witnessed more than my share of motorcycle accidents and fatalities. One friend hit a deer, and killed the deer, and caused him to get 58 stitches in his leg.

A family and friends have tragicly lost a loved one, and your first thought is to post an obvious statistic about the risks of riding motorcycles? I’ve had friends lose their children in that road because of animals, drunks coming the other way, and all sorts of tragedies.

Think of the loved ones, and kindness first, and perhaps save the lectures for after he’s buried. After all, we are in the business of healing, not just for those who have fallen ill, but for those who have tragically lost their son.

RIP

Statistics January 6, 2020 - 5:02 PM - 5:02 PM

93.99% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

TX:
Show your source oh grumpy one that hates the police, and motorcycles.
Completely untrue, splitting lanes is legal btw,and only gear required is a helmet and not riding naked.

TraumaRx January 6, 2020 - 6:51 PM - 6:51 PM

@james
Excuse me sir, no one said lane splitting is illegal in California. Just because something is legal doesn’t make it safe. Regarding gear yes helmet is only required but why then others wear leathers, gloves, ect…?

james January 6, 2020 - 8:08 PM - 8:08 PM

Until they invent a body helmet, all the equipment you mention just slows the road rash, slide for long enough or fast enough,it burns right thru.Crash one time, all the equipment needs to be replaced.Leather will slow it down, but it’s also a style.Knowing nothing will save me,if the sun is out,all I need is t-shirt and pants and a helmet and footwear.Gloves and jacket will only keep you warm and do nothing for safety.

Anonymom January 6, 2020 - 8:18 PM - 8:18 PM

TraumaRx why are you here? Making insinuations and just being generally disrespectful? Do you have other things to do during the day? You weren’t there. You don’t know. Someone died. Get over yourself.

TraumaRx January 6, 2020 - 11:35 PM - 11:35 PM

@james
I rather be wearing gear than just a t-shirt and jeans if I was to go down tough guy.

james January 7, 2020 - 1:08 AM - 1:08 AM

TX,that means you’ve never ridden a bike or been in a crash. All the clothes do is make you stick to the pavement, unless youre wearing real leathe rOR silk underwear.Your comments again are emotion based, and your don’t know anything beyond the last time you rode your bicycle, and dressed for safety.Think about the last time you burned your knee on the ground as a kid?Pants didn’t help one bit..

james January 7, 2020 - 1:18 AM - 1:18 AM

Hey Trauma.you “would rather be wearing gear”???You can wear gloves and a jacket when it’s 110 degrees outside, this is California, you would be drenched with sweat the first time you stop as the air doesn’t cool one self, its like riding in a 100 degree oven.Riding in town and being stuck at traffic light with a required helmet (head oven) is difficult enough, and an eggshell helmet will not save your life or your face. You imagine ideal situations that you’ve never been in or will be in.Would you only ride at night? It’s still hot at night here on the west coast.Maybe get out sometime. It’s cool in your parent basement I guess. It’s difficult to stay hydrated when riding a motorcycle in the summer,so one avoids any extra clothes.Riding in the winter doesn’t happen much unless it’s one’s only vehicle.

Fred P. January 7, 2020 - 6:56 AM - 6:56 AM

trauma loves to trot out the “well, the CHP does xxxxx…”

Why don’t the CHP motor officers wear full leathers when riding in the summer? Helmet, boots and gloves – that’s it.

Go back to wailing about seat belts. And take a class in statistics while you’re at it.

WhoDat Gurl – frankly, I doubt that trauma is any kind of medical professional. Most medical professionals I know have displayed some kind of compassion from time to time…. not so with trauma. My sense is he/she is playing doctor with the only medical knowledge being picked up from Wikipedia. Either that, or a reincarnation of Nurse Ratched…..

Sign from Above January 7, 2020 - 7:17 AM - 7:17 AM

@ James

Don’t bother with Trauma. He/she is only here to incite angry responses. If you’ve read any of their previous post, they either have no medical experience at all, or are extremely bad at it. Not worth the time!

badmedia January 8, 2020 - 8:39 AM - 8:39 AM

To WhoDat Gurl – Bless your sweet heart! Our family has been comforted by some of your sound replies out of respect of our loved one. Thank you, and may God bless you.

Dear Badmedia

Oh my goodness, in such a difficult time, you’re kindness and response made me tear up. I’m so sorry for your great loss, and I am praying for your family. May your son Rest In Peace, and I hope his memory stays with you always

Mikey January 6, 2020 - 3:02 PM - 3:02 PM

RIP Tim. =(

badmedia January 8, 2020 - 8:46 AM - 8:46 AM

Mikey – if you were the gentleman on scene trying to resuscitate my brother, I thank you with all of my heart. He was an ambulance attendant in his younger days, had a heart as big as Texas, and would have stopped to do anything for anybody at anytime! Our family is very comforted knowing someone was immediately there trying to help him.

Mikey January 8, 2020 - 12:58 PM - 12:58 PM

badmedia – That was my neighbor. All I did was call 911. I’m so sorry for your loss. Please know that there was nothing we could do. Tim passed quickly and didn’t suffer.

TraumaRx, 93.9% of your posts are disrespectful and with biased information. Please, please please understand family and friends will read these posts and your slurs will cause further pain (you should understand this if you really are in the first responder scene). Condolences to family and friends of the rider.

My heart goes out to his family. So sorry you’re having to endure this. My condolences.

james January 6, 2020 - 5:56 PM - 5:56 PM

People who have never been on a 2 wheeled vehicle have no room to talk about them,so please don’t.Abike rider usually isn’t putting anyone at risk but himself and he knows that when he’s buys a bike.Rarely if ever does a 4 wheel driver get injured from a collision with a bike, and if they did,you can be sure the biker did not survive. If you want bike riders to” slow down”and believe they will if you complain, I would like to sell you some beachside property in Montana.Almost every bike rider learns the hard way,or the harder way, when their family has to learn.

@Trauma RX- man, you just don’t get it do you, you must be one of those people who isn’t happy unless he is being rude, ignorant and disrespectful of others and their situation…shame on you you caustic, toxic excuse for a human being, try a little empathy, a little compassion for once in your miserable existence, I hope one day, you find that little speck of self-respect…..

Boycott The Circus January 7, 2020 - 10:21 AM - 10:21 AM

Motorcyclists drive crazy just like people in cars do. Me personally, I like to make it from point A to point B safely and as much as I don’t care for people, I still wouldn’t want to drive like a dumbass and hurt or kill myself, my kids or someone else. But then law enforcement, Firefighters, EMT’s, Doctor’s, Nurse’s etc wouldn’t have jobs if people weren’t stupid.

Boycott The Circus January 7, 2020 - 10:24 AM - 10:24 AM

They also flip you off if you don’t move to the side for them on the freeway so they can split the lane!!! Its like “I’m on a motocycle, I’m entitled and you need to move!” Sorry, but I do not move. I have the right to that road just as much as the motorcycle!

Jennifer January 7, 2020 - 4:01 PM - 4:01 PM

For those making assumptions about motorcycles please add medical emergency to your list of reasons.

Tim, you will be forever loved and missed💔

Tragic outcome , and then all the ignorant, hateful comments by truly calloused people who don’t have any idea of what happened.

Rest in peace, rider.

anon – YOU”RE WRONG!

Rab the Ranter January 9, 2020 - 3:17 PM - 3:17 PM

If lane splitting is so dangerous, why are several other states now considering allowing it?

I commute by motorcycle and lane split every day and I could not tell you how many times a car has slammed on the brakes or done something stupid like that in front of me and it was the fact that I was at the edge of the lane and able to slide past them that allowed me to avoid an accident. As long as people in cars are at least semi-cognizant of what’s going on around them and don’t merge without looking or attempt to block the lane on purpose, I’d always rather be between lanes.
