Contra Costa Supervisors To Discuss Cannabis Business Permit Applicants

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors could select as many as four retail cannabis storefront operator proposals, and up to seven commercial cannabis cultivation proposals to apply for land-use permits for establishing such businesses.

Contra Costa County’s cannabis ordinance allows for up to four storefront retailers in unincorporated portions of the county, 10 commercial cannabis cultivators and two commercial manufacturers in agricultural zones within the county.

In February, the supervisors issued a formal request for proposals from prospective operators to vie for those permits. Fifty-three operators were invited to submit proposals. Of that number, 40 full proposals were received: 21 for storefront retail and 19 for commercial cultivation.

The storefront retail proposals are for businesses along Pacheco Boulevard in unincorporated Martinez and Pacheco, along with El Sobrante, North Richmond, Bay Point and Clyde. The commercial cultivation proposals are for North Richmond and for rural areas east of Brentwood.

No proposals for the establishment of commercial manufacturing in agricultural districts were received.

I hope the good people of Clyde, Bay Point, and Pacheco let their representatives know smoking and vaping cannabis is a growing health crisis affecting our young people. Just say NO!

County Supervisors who vote for this without restricting sales to non-smoking and vaping products should be ashamed.

Remember, cannabis has 33 carcinogens in it!… and the peanut gallery comes out again.

Public smoking is a nuisance. Do you enjoy inhaling the acrid, poisonous smoke that has been inside of an inconsiderate, most likely unwashed stranger?

Smoking bans are 100% justified. Legally allowing the purchase of tobacco and other substances is likewise 100% justified.

Better just make it illegal to exhale. Nobody enjoys inhaling nasty, germ-laden air that has been inside of an inconsiderate, most likely unwashed stranger.

Why bother? Legal cannabis businesses are losing out to the black market. Their expenses are higher and they cannot compete. Besides, people can simply grow their own – we’re not talking trying to bottle a fabulous Chardonnay or Cabernet here. You get some seeds, plant them, wait until they start to develop their reproductive cells, cull out the males, and harvest the buds. It’s gardening that produces a relaxing crop.

Horrors! They want to plant a store two blocks from Alhambra high school? There is probably more weed available to purchase in the high school hallways than the store would carry. Get your heads out of the sand people. Adult and teenagers smoke weed.

Just make it illegal to inhale around smokers. Have a legal sized perimeter designated around smokers. You violate their smoking space, first time you receive a warning, second time you receive a fine. They are addicts who deserve tolerance just like everyone else. Am I in California or what? Where up is down and well does your heart not bleed.
